Every nineandahalf minutes someone is infected with hiv and the stigma is still an issue. We want to push it under the rug. Tammy jones has worked with the department of H Iv Services for 15 years and what disturbs her the most. People are not getting tested we need everyone to get tested and know what their status us. The highest incidents of hiv aids is in the African American community. The community that gives jones the most resistance. Back in the africanamerican churches. We have tried to get in and we see resistance. Many of the problems in the church, we are promoting fornication or adultery and that is not the case. Ryan jones is the face attached to the numbers that we see. An africanamerican gay male that has been hiv positive for 32 years. There is some social drivers that are in place or structural disparities that are in place that keep the stigma alive such as the criminal laws. When you get a diagnosis, they say you are hiv positive and also you need to sign this paper because it is a felony if you dont disclose. Also you have internal stigma from people that are positive. So thats why it is necessary for more positive people to step up and say im hiv positive with no shame. Message to the street where he passes out condoms and educates people on services that are available. We do grassroots but you dont need to do grassroots. I do dirt advocacy because the grass to grow you have to cultivate the dirt. A father whose daughter was killed by a wrongway driver is hoping to spread education.
