Well so many are hyped up for a big night in the land, some say there is one thing they are so pumped about. Its going to get crazy. Im grad we didnt drive. Parking. Almost everyone we talked to check out the lot. Most are 20 to 40, a surprise for those who didnt realize they were pulling in for a triple threat thursday. It was pretty high. But while not everything is perfect, many agreed tonight in the summer of the city scene is pretty darn close. You have that ev its certainly abuzz downtown and something pretty special. We are right between the fields. Paul mccartney starts around 8 00. There are too many people here quite yet but if youre planning on heading downtown tonight for any of these events, everyone has told me you should head out a little early and give yourself some time. News channel 5. A lot of people hoping for clear skies as they had downtown tonight. Clouds. They are dry. They are not going to make any rain for you. Weve got some sunshine poking through the clouds. Looking good if you come downtown. Rain showers well off to the southwest and south. Our viewing area at this moment pretty much drive. We straight we stay dry the farther north you come. A few thunderstorms here could make it into mansfield over the next three or four hours, maybe in canton after 82 in cleveland, hopkins 85. Traffic may also become an issue shortly. Quickly i want to point out, traffic is working correctly at the intersection of 18th street and state avenue. You can see a little confusion from the folks going through the intersection. There is construction in area. I mentioned those backups we are seeing. Those are extending around dead mans curve on 90 headed westbound. So if you are headed down, be where there is heavy back up. Well give you look at that. Area. Free parking an extra train service. We sent them to see how it is looking down there. How is it looking . We are actually on the red line coming from the west side going east toward downtown. I can tell you this is actually one of their busiest lines just because they have plenty of free parking available at some of the stations on this side of town. Were coming up on west 117th st brookpark is really a busiest station. They see an influx of about 7000 extra riders, mostly on the red line from the west side during a typical browns game. Tonight theyve extended rush hour service with trains coming about every 10 minutes. Throughout 8 00 until the events get started. Volunteers will be at the busiest stations to help with ticket sales and directions. Parking is free with a round trip fare going for 5. Its the way to go if you dont want to pay 15 or 20 for parking downtown, especially tonight. I want to remind you, we are actually going away from the normal flow of downtown afternoon traffic this is like a reversed rush hour you are seeing. Plenty of seats on the train. The trains normally runs till about 12 30, but they will be monitoring conditions and if they need to extend that service, they tell me they will. News channel 5. You check in on that progress again today. What did you learn . Reporter a progress is certainly being made as we saw firsthand on east 123rd street. A street with boardedup houses like the ones you see behind me. As you are about to hear, the program is significantly off mark from its original projections. That was the worst. It was really an eyesore. With one backhoe and a matter of 15 minutes, this abandoned home crashing down today. The neighbor said it was there two decades and he spent a lot of time keeping a close eye on it. We have to make sure that nobody goes in and out. This is part of the demolition program, a Program First announced by the former county executive Ed Fitzgerald in late 2014. His promise, tear down 5000 homes in three years. The program is moving along very well actually. But nearly two decades later, the county off demolished under the program. We are moving as fast as the cities request demolition. How it works is the counties essentially act as a bang giving cities money out of the program, the 50 million fund, to bulldoze homes. Although it is going very this is not some simple thing where you walk onto a property and knock things down. The hold up, according to the land bank and the county, is the lengthy Legal Process cities must go through before they can demolish a home like this one. Curry lives on the opposite end of east 123rd from this eyesore of an area. He explains this house used to be surrounded by empty homes, all of which have been tore down over the years, and for that he is thankful. Its very quiet. You can actually go on the porch and my wife loves the county would not give me a timeframe as to win all 5000 homes will be torn down. The land bank tells me it demolishes about 20 homes per week and cleveland tears down its own homes under the umbrella of the county program. It tells me that it demolishes about 12 homes per week. Reporter the erie county Sheriffs Department is using drones to investigate crashes, pile up, and thats not all. This is video recorded by a drone camera. The drone was used b 10 car pileup on the ohio turnpike. In the past, authorities have just taken pictures from the ground to investigate crashes but thanks to the new drone technology, the erie county can get a much different view of pileups like this one. The drones skyhigh view is one more tool that can help investigators determine how a crash like this one happened. When you are up, its much easier to see a longer picture of skidmarks, the debris field. Its much easier for them to for the reconstruction of the action scene, we were able to allow them to tell us what to do, where to go, what pictures to take. John adams with the Sheriffs Department told me right now they are mostly using drones to investigate crashes, but their drones can also be used for search and rescue. If you have a child lost in a cornfield or an elderly person, youd put a drone up in the air, it could go its able to pick someone out in the cold or an area much quicker. These machines could help s. W. A. T. Team in tactical situations or standoffs in the future. You can save lives. You can send a drone in front of a window where you dont want an officers face and it could look inside. We have just learned that some of the mandatory evacuations in place here have been lifted in addition a major roadway from Southern California to las vegas that was also shut down is now reopened. Today the Homeland Security secretary flew down south to two or the flood ravaged parishes.
