Developing this morning a crazy 24 hours for Fire Departments in the west side suburbs. First the explosion at crocker park after two propane tanks catch fire and a deadly fire in bay village. Whats the latest . Reporter well, so many of our Fire Departments and First Responders have Mutual Aid Agreements in times of need and that has certainly come into play over the last 24 hours. And now, this morning some of our you smaller departments like here in bay village dealing with that emotional stretch. It began yesterday afternoon after a fire began on a construction site in crocker park leading to that huge explosion. Several area dents including bay village First Responders assisted remained on the scene after that fire was contained and late last night just before 7 at least six Fire Departments for you to that blaze in bay village. Officials told us two people were inside the home at the time of the fire. One manmade it out. Was pronounced dead on scene. The firefighters not only dealing with the physical toll but the emotional toll of dealing with a fatality as well. No identity has been released yet. We hope to get that later this morning from the Cuyahoga County medical examiners office. Back to you. Thank you. And shoppers will be able to return to crocker park this morning. The stores will be open today after that explosion yesterday. Also returning investigators theyre going to be trying to figure out and pinpoint what caused this explosion. The focus right now on those two propane tanks outside the new American Greetings headquarters. Whats unknown is what ignited those tanks and for those that witnessed the blast its something they will not forget. I completely saw the explosion, seen flames go up. It was very quick, huge you ball of flames, and then debris started coming across flying over there. Because of yesterdays explosion they will be open this morning. And weve learned the tanks at the construction were there to keep the workers warm during the winter. They were set to be removed while it was warming up. While there have been no issues, a construction worker told us that he recently heard the tanks were leaking. Somebody mentioned something about they had some leaks that they took care of and a couple days past. So you heard about leaks before this. Yeah, this was a pretty safe job. Theres a lot of safety guys and they have strict standards. The company that provided the tanks says they are working with state and local investigators to figure out what happened here. Agents from the fbi and Bay Village Police investigating this house on lake road. Were told the search is part of a case out of michigan that spans multiple cities across the country. They would not tell us any more details but we will keep you posted. A convicted sex offender arrested this week for kidnaping a cleveland teen. Carlos brown is a tier 3 sex offender who has violated parole twice before. He spent two years in prison for sexual battery. He violated his probation which can warrant jail time but instead he was given heightened probation. He violated that probation again in january. A legal expert tells news channel 5 that the courts should have taken brown off the brown should have been sent back to jail until he had a hearing before a judge or very limited ability to move around after those violations. We reached out to that judge who decided on the heightened probation instead of prison time and he has not respond today our questions. This morning Denver Police expected to announce new information theyve received in a 1987 murder causing them to reopen the case.
