Parts in purple and pink. That is where were picking up the heaviest snow. New philadelphia, canton, akron getting hit hard and carol county, expecting you to see the bulk of the system as it passes through. Its not coming down hard but right now, down to the critical point in canton, a quarter of a mile and were looking at a mile in cleveland and a mile and a quarter in akron and were battling different elements this morning and i want people to be cautious of, the nonfreezing and refreezing, we have some ice under the snow. And that is making it difficult hitting the road and the visibility an issue and were seeing accidents after 5 this morning and we dont see this. Ninety and 71, an accident. I am tracking 71 and again, you see the spot mostly that is an issue. The akron area and look at the yellows and reds on the screen and if we zoom in to the turnpike and 76 looking rough. I am tracking some cars going from 30 to 35 miles an hour. Remember, the speed limit on most highways in northeast ohio is 60. Youre going to need to go extra slow and in these conditions and lets go to the west spot im tracking and looking at the cameras and this is a rough area and akron looks bad this morning and lets go to. Know this morning. And if youre fortunate enough to be behind a plow truck, its not looking bad and a few minutes afterward, its a difficult driving condition. Have a look. We were behind the snow plow a few minutes ago and everything was looking clear. And later, ever we have gotten past that, difficult driving conditions were dealing with and some snowcovered roadways and talking about difficult to tell what lane were in and were in the right lane of travel and there is not any difference in terms of snow coverage between the right and left lanes. And were in a 65 Miles Per Hour speed zone and going 45 miles an hour and traffic is tarting to starting to slow down on 76. Janessa, how are things looking for you. John, i decided to get out of Storm Tracker and show you the good shovable snow that were seeing and you can see were at Hiram University and there is a good pile of snow here towards southern portions of Geauga County and into portage. Were on route 700 going to get back on the roadways and show you the side streets and theyre not seeing good visibility and we havent seen a plow in site and we have been here the last hour or so and busy conditions and roads are slick and that is heavyduty snow that is coming down out towards portage and Geauga County. How much are we talking about in the way of accumulation . That depending on where accumulation. That depends on where you are out west and huron to an inch and that and areas like summit and stark county and three to six inches and i am pushing that zone into stark county as well and were talking about i a small amount of time and over to you. Right now, were looking live and that is some snow coming down heavy and we have heavy flakes out there, wet and saturated throughout the morning, making for a messy commute and again, if you dont have to head out of the door right now, you might want to call in and might be more delayed in terms of leaving and were seeing the system move out and that is going to take time after the morning commute and this is a look at the entire picture. The best way to describe the storm system is like a bowling ball. Seaboard and spinning at the same time. Were starting to get the moisture suing in to portions of northeast ohio and the heavier pockets right now in copley and into ken moore and akron and where we see the heaviest snowfall out of the door and that is not looking good in either direction and another trouble spot im worried about isca know onton. We have a lot of commuters making that commute from canton to akron and akron to canton and some low visibility and struggling a quarter of a mile. And we have some fog on top of this and this is a messy situation. And this is a look at accumulation and were talking four to eight inches and parts farther south and some of the heavier snow is in summit and stark county, the areas of Portage County and partsof ravena and into the west, youre not worried about accumulation and this is sticking around throughout the when we start to get a reprieve about 8 00 and youre on the roads there, on the east side and you will get hit. Ashtabula county, it will rev up for you and after lunchtime, well see things taper down and temperatures in the low 30s all the while. And we could be seeing a lot of farther south. The power of five sevenday forecast, what you will. Is notice is we do reach temperatures of 49 or 50 and we have to make it through the wintery weather this morning. Over to you. And we mentioned difficult driving conditions on route 77 and that is where we are. The further south we go, the worse the conditions get. Plenty of snowfall and difficult to tell what lane we are in and we had a car sliding off of the road a a roadway a few miles back and difficult and slippery driving conditions and that is multiplied on bridges and overpasses. From 277 and 271 and look, you can see the roadway looks barely touched and the lips of snow and that is what were talking about when we said the snow wants to grab the wheel and make the car drift and some difficult conditions on 77. The ohio highway state patrol is having a hard time keeping up and doesnt matter where, the side roads, cars are getting stuck in the ditches because of the conditions and this is 480 in Warrensville Center road and conditions are not much better there and the traffic maps this morning and and everyone and 76 and probably worse off and lets look at the weather impacting us and that is those areas right here in red and akron ninety and 71, an accident, and 71 again. And not clear as of yet and stall showing up on the maps and light go outside and will we take a step out and the visibility is still a big, big problem. You see the yellow and red and that means cars are slowing and you need to go below the speed limit because of the conditions. I spoke with the state Highway Patrol and theyre seeing a lot of cars in Summit County and this is a live picture for you wow, look at that and we cant see the camera camera because of the visibility and snow coming on you is Storm Tracker 5 is on route 44 south and still in Portage County and entering the ravena area. And look at that. The speed limit is of on this onelane road and we are going at a slow speed of 25 and we seeing a few clouds getting out here but we have been seeing some really big flakes coming down and a good amount of accumulation and you cant see the lines on the road, but you can see cars to our side that can barely see them in front of us. Visibility down to nearly a quarter to zero of a mile. Somara. And near whiteout conditions. Check that out. Coming down heavy out there and not only, that but its wet snow and heavy snow and making for a slushy ride, difficult for traction and that is going to be a messy commute in stark county. I want to focus in on Summit County and the different colors mean something. The dark purple, were seeing the heaviest of it and the lighter purple showing the lighter snow and zoom into Summit County and akron. Youre getting hid with hit with a good amount of snow and closer, you can see parts like ken moore, 271 and hitting the road on 76 and that is about to get bad out there and were talking about possible whiteout conditions with the darker purples and the pink colors. Ken moore and firestone park, youre up next for the heavier pocket of snow and over to you. The darker shade of purple and and that is starting to dwindle down. And were starting to lose some intensity in canton and areas like carol county. That doesnt mean the snow is not coming down heavy. What i want to do is zoom in here now and doing some storm tracking and in areas like maple valley, fairlawn and areas like akron and conemore. Youre seeing the heavier pockets of snow coming down out there. Not only that, but we see a good amount of snow coming down in parts of areas like sulle in, and 271, hitting areas like walton hills, bedford heights, macedonia and if youre heading out of the door, you will pick up on the heavier pockets as well and were seeing the intensity of the overall heavy snow die down and that is making for a messy commute. We have visibilities down to a quarter of a mile still in canton and well keep an eye on this. For now, terrence and jackie over to you. And this snow closing posing difficult travelling conditions and you were talking about red and yellow that you were seeing out there and on your traffic maps. Were seeing things improve in stark county and that does not 19 its not snowing. It is and things are improving as we watch the intensity drop. And when i superimpose the temperatures, there we go. Were on the freezing line and in the betweens or single digits. This is a wet and slushy snow and as we zoom into this areas into some areas affected, akron is slammed a half hour ago. And notice the shift, though and things improved greatly in akron and some areas north of where we see some of the darker purples. Up, in, areas like bainbridge seeing darker colors of purple and meaning heavier snows for you. If you take that this morning, you can expect that and in terms of accumulation, that came down hard and fast out there. I am going three to six inches and the farther south you move, they picked up a good amount in carol county this morning and going out west. In terms of timing, were looking at about, notice this, 8 45 a. M. Things improve and i will notice the system is moving intensity quickly. We still have a lot of snow out there on the ground. You will notice temperatures are average and cool this time of the year. Hows it lacking looking where you are . Somara, here on route 44 north and outside of downtown ravenna. And this is letting up the attack and that is coming down steady. The big zing on roadways right now, the reduced visibility. Those low clouds across the area. You can see the traffic is starting to pick up and people are moving slow. We have seen a few spinouts with people having their hazardous lights on. And you can see roadways in downtown ravena now and you couldnt see the lines have been seeing heavy accumulation just in the last three hours since we have been out here. Yes, this is the primary snowbelt, but travel is definitely tricky out here. Kristen . Thank you. I see that slush there. What a mess and that is on the side streets and highways now. If you were to take five inches that is an equivalent of one inch of rain. With dry snow, we take five down. You get more with wet snow and that is heavier. This is a secret. We start to see develop, we develop layers of ice with wet snow and were seeing that because the temperatures are teetering on that freezing line and really voling between 32 and 33 degrees and below freezing and into the morning, well monitor this and i wanted to let you know because its going to make for a messy commute. And that is a look at your power of 5 forecast. Over to you in Storm Tracker. Were in massillon and we wanted to get off of the many route and its not better and difficult driving conditions. The speed limit is not as high. You can cruise around at 15, 20 miles an hour and everyone else is doing the same speed. I wanted to show you this, though. Snapped a video and several cars were pulled off of the roadway and this is what i snapped of a car in a ditch on 77 and police were on scene. They had the flares out there warning people of the traffic incident and that car is into the right side of the roadway, a mini cooper and not the best car to be out here in these conditions. Were at a red light in downtown massillon. I am not sure if you can see the snow plow making its way to the intersection and you can see the snow falling. Its difficult for them to keep up with. And you will want to leave the mini cooper at home and that is i better option for you. Four live looks at 77 this morning and a big issue.
