Just moments ago i spoke to armondo patino who works at the mall and was right there when the shots were fired. A rch i know you work in tmobile. Did you know what was happening as it began to happen . I honestly did not. I heard the first shot and the second shot and i stood there. I did not know what was on. I was a little confused at the time because i didnt think there were gunshots then out of nowhere, i hear two, three, four, five and id see a bunch of people running out of macys and thats when i knew that shots were fired and, i mean, everybody went crazy, so, you know, i did what i could. I was i ran to my store obviously and there were actually people that were in front of me that i was to stayed there, you know, a bunch of people were just shocked in the room and we just waited for safety. What kind of impact do you think this will have on your community . You know, i believe this is going to have a big impact because i mean were two small towns and, you know, this is our mall. This is our community and, you know, we like to feel safe in the community at least, you know, and secure and, you know, this happening is kind of it shocked me as well but its just something that the community is going to have to get through and, you know, in time we will but its a sad day. Indeed and were sending our best to you and to everybody in that community. Thank you again for your time this morning and for doing what you could overnight when the worst imaginable took place. All of this comes as his family releases this harrowing video showing the final moments of keith lamont scotts life. Abcs eva pilgrim is in charlotte this morning for us where there were more protests overnight. Eva, good morning to you. Reporter good morning, paula. Damage from prior protests has the city of charlotte on guard this morning. But we have seen now a second night of peaceful protests. This as were sparked this outrage. This morning investigators reportedly saying new evidence in the shooting death of keith scott. Sources telling charlotte abc affiliate wsoc that testing of the weapon cops say was found at the scene allegedly shows a match for keith scotts fingerprints, dna and blood. Dont shoot him. Dont shoot him. He has no weapon. Reporter this coming as chilling new video captured by Charlotte Police not to shoot her husband. Drop the gun. Keith, dont do it. Drop the gun. Keith, get out the car. Keith, keith, dont you do it. Dont you do it. Keith. Keith. Keith. Dont you do it. Did you shoot him . Did you shoot him . Scotts wife in disbelief he et behr be not be dead. Im not going to you. Im going to record though. He better be alive. Reporter for days protesters and scotts family have called on the police to release officer body cam and dash cam of the shooting. Charts police chief arguing the police video doesnt paint a full picture and wont release it until more questions are answered. If i were to put it out indisdiscriminate nationally and it doesnt give you good context, it can inflame the situation. And make it even worse. Seen the police video says its not clear what was in keith scotts hand but the Police Department says scott was armed and that this image captured after the shooting shows the gun they recovered. When you look at the picture they released its hard to tell what it is. It could be a gun. But its not clear. Reporter from the other angle this video shows what may be that same object far from the body raising more questions than it answers. The stat n investigation. As far as that police video, the state says because cmpd has the original copy of that video they have the Legal Authority to release it. The state telling you city leaders are actively discussing the release of that video. Paula. All right, thank you so much, eva. We want to bring in sunny hostin who is also in charlotte for us this morning. Sunny, good morning. We want to talk about that report. According to our abc affiliate right there in charlotte, wsoc weapon found by cops at the scene allegedly had keith scotts blood, his fingerprints, his dna but it seems like bits and pieces of information are coming to light. Does it confuse the situation . I think so. These investigations, paula, are very fluid and we are in the early days of the investigation here and so any conclusions drawn upon alleged leak information would be premature and it certainly does compromise the investigation. I think whats certainly important to not family has requested an independent investigator. An independent investigation. That is now considered the best practice when it comes to these Police Involved shootings and we do now know that the state bureau of investigation is now handling this case and so, again, investigation is very, very fluid and at its earliest stages. We saw that video that keith scotts wife shot, the family has also seen the police video. Public. The chief didnt want to inflame the situation. Is that the right call . I dont think its the right call and i can tell you that last night i was in downtown charlotte. I was speaking to a lot of the protesters. There were chants there was chanting release the tapes and every Single Person that i spoke to felt that the Police Department was being less than transparent. Its leading to a distrust of this investigation and, again, be much more transparent with the community and i think that would go a long way in terms of giving this broken and fractured community a better, better sense of justice here. Cries for transparency this morning in charlotte. Sunny, thank you. Dan. We move on to the race for president and tminus 2 1 2 days until what promises to be an epic night in american politics. Clinton versus trump in their first debate. Around 100 Million Viewers preparing this morning but in very different ways and abcs mary bruce is in our Washington Bureau with more. Reporter with that debate around the corner the campaigns are studying each other weaknesses, setting expectations and already playing head games. This morning, two very different candidates preparing to face off in two very different ways. In one corner hillary clinton, the veteran debater readying for her most unpre yet taking the traditional route shes hunkering down with briefing books holding mock debates and looking to get under trumps skin. Starting with the front row. Im out. Im out. Reporter her campaign giving a coveted ticket to trumps nemesis, fellow brash billionaire mark cuban. Rudy giuliani leading fridays strategy session. Lets have the American People see a person actually be themselves. Reporter so no mock debates, just rapidfire questioning and careful review of clintons past performances. And now trump is getting a surprise boost from a former rival. Lying ted cruz. Lying ted. He holds up the bible and t reporter just two months ago ted cruz refused to endorse trump at the convention. Vote your conscience, vote for candidates up and down the ticket who you trust to defend our freedom. Reporter now an aboutface saying he will vote for trump speaking with our houston station ktrk. I have forgiven him this. Is not personal. Its not about our family. Its about the country. Behind cruzs change of heart . Why now and who benefits more here, cruz or trump . This is a risky gamble for ted cruz. No question. After taking a hard personal and principled stance against trump cruzs change of heart is shocking but may be politically advantageous. Cruz is facing a possible primary challenge and the rnc said republicans who dont back trump could be made to pay for it down the road. Dan. That is true. But many of are unhappy this morning. Mary bruce, thank you very much. Want to bring in abc news political analyst matthew dowd joining us from austin, texas, this morning. Hi, matthew. Apparently hell froze over and ted cruz endorsed donald trump. Is it really going to party in the end . Good morning. I actually think it doesnt help donald trump at all. Its not going to contribute anything in the course of this campaign but i actually think it hurts ted cruz in his future ambition, one to get reelected u. S. Senator in texas but, two, 2020. It makes him look cravenly opportunistic and unprincipled and doesnt help ted. Lets loop back to the debate on monday night. Style is tick differences between these two candidates could hardly be more stark. The super studious clinton and seat of the pants up until now trump. How is this likely to play out on stage . I think what will play out each of air strengths and other side. Hillary clinton cerebral but doesnt have a gut connection. She has to become more visceral i think in the course of that debate. I think donald trump very visceral has to be has to look more cerebral and have more of a head connection. They each have to go to the other sides strength and adapt in that hour and a half. The first time he has debated oneonone. Its been one versus 17 but how consequential do you think this debate is likely to be and will outcome. This is the most important moment of the entire Campaign Starting at the nomination process until election day. Without a doubt it will have more of an effect than anything else in this race in the time that we have left in this. It will move voters. How permanent that is, we dont know. Weve seen it happen in the past but this thing will be watched by as many people as watched the super bowl. As we said, an epic night in american politics. President obama hosting a big reception at the white house on the eve of the opening. Abcs robin robs got an exclusive interview with the president as well as the first lady ahead of the museums opening. Its here at last. And its beautiful. Decades in the making. A museum that chronicles both the tragedies and triumphs of american history. The 19th museum of the smithsonian campus exhibits over 3500 artifacts to honor the africanamerican journey. I know that you both have had a chance with your family to tour here. What were your First Impression, mr. President. The First Impression you are not just getting a narrative of slavery and the Civil Rights Movement but youre also reminded of how much the africanamerican experience has contributed to American Culture and American Music and sports and film. This will end up being a museum for all americans. We remember, mrs. Obama, at the Democratic National convention when you said i wake and i watch my daughters, two beautiful intelligent black young women playing with their dogs on the white house lawn. One of the many things that struck me was that so much of what has happened and is represented in this museum has happened in our lifetime. You know, when you think about the fact that my great greatgrandfather was a slave and today i live in the white house, that progrs its fast. To know that there are young people who now believe because of both of you that anything is possible, how does it make you feel in your heart and your head . I do think my presidency has sent a message to kids across the board. The sense that the human spirit can transform even the worst of circumstances into something beautiful and powerful. Look at that picture. Her mouth is just like, shes is in pure delight right there. Love at first sight. Maybe shell be a future ballerina. Finally, wow. How did that happen. Way to go. Oh, my gordon, guys. Did you get it . Oh, yes. Autumn is here. When can we eat . Oh, my word. To kick off the season of spooks and spices we have this fall themed doughnut tower which is in front of rob. I dont know if you can see ron rob. Try a bite of this. Whats that. Glazed doughnut. Our treat has cheese filled doughnuts on the bottom. Then we have some pumpkin pecan and praline mixed in then to top it off a little honey glazed corn action. Apple cider flavors. Popcorn, check out pop karma which dan has pushed the two together. Pumpkin spice and cinnamon spice with the popcorn. Look at this. Then oh, wow. But wait for it. Then you could really dip into this by starbucks, of course, this season, though, the new spice is chili mocha latte. I like it. Wow. Thank you for destroying my diet. Youll be back tomorrow. I sure will. See you then, everybody. Take care. Have a great saturday. Cheers. Good morning, cleveland and northeast ohio, im power of 5 meteorologist Somara Theodore here to help you get your day started. Right now current temperatures are at 67 degrees. A pretty warm start out there and its going to be a mild finish. Winds coming out of the northeast at 10 miles an hour, that piece of information is heres a look at your radar, we are starting off very dry right now, maybe a few sprinkles coming down in cuyahoga county. Other than that everyone is looking up to dry conditions. I know that sets off the alarm to my boaters but i wanted to know there is a Small Craft Advisory for the lakeshore. Winds are going to be pretty choppy, chopping up the water. Winds out of the northeast at 10 to 20 knots, that Small Craft Advisory until 4 p. M. , thats when the National Weather service will lift it. 62 degrees right now in madison, 53 in seoul and, peninsula is 53, 59 up in orwell, ashtabula, 57. Outdoor the west side, 64 in new london, 64 down in mohican state park. So as i said, relatively warm start, High Pressure has been bringing up some phenomenal weather for the past few days and of course a cold front dropped through late last night and is continuing to pass now. And on the periphery we did have a few showers so you might make up to raindrops on your windshield not falling from the sky, behind it cool air is going to surge in and that cool air arrived as we head through the afternoon and tomorrow morning. Therefore those temperatures not climbing much. That northeast wind i was talking about, that cool air is going to arrive on the lakeshore there over the warmer water and increase those chances for rainfall but the reaching the low 70s will be very comfortable for all the runners out there taking on the akron marathon
