>> hello. many of the two asean some who feel they have paid in blood for the dramatic -- tunisians who feel they have paid in blood for the dramatic changes in their country are complaining that six ministers from the old party have kept their jobs in the interim administration. some are describing that as no more than a facelift for the old regime. water cannons and tear gas have been in use on the streets of tunis. qa!1a">> the morning after the revolution before, it is time to sweep away the mess and get ready for a new dawn. attorneys yet is still reeling from four weeks of -- tunisia is still reeling from four weeks of chaos. the country and the government were falling apart on friday. shops were broken into. and tire shops were cleared of all their goods. this is happening in tunis and all across the country. the damage repair bill internees' yet is it fast. but the country is trying to roll up its sleeves and move on. the manager of a supermarket says he is hiding extra stuff so he can open tomorrow. sms messages have been buzzing around, urging people not to stay at home, but to go to work and make it look as if to the sierra is normal -- andto the sierra is normal. symbols of the hated past have been brought crashing down. if -- the homes of the family of the former president had been looted. anything is not nailed -- not nailed down in his beach house has been taken away. this afternoon, the prime minister announced his interim government of national unity. it will include opposition mps and figures outside conventional politics. muhammed ghannouchi also said political prisoners would be freed. the tunisiaans have not lost their appetite for protesting. tunis is free, to this is free, being shouted in the capitol, hurling insults at the regime. the police watched at first, but then seemed to could -- to forget their new commitment to allow freedom of -- greater freedom of speech. teargas was dispensed into the crowd, a sign that the dark days may not be completely over. >> in what looks very much like a -- an echo of the instant a month ago that set off the popular revolt in tunisia, and man has set himself on fire in front of the egyptian parliament. his injuries are described as trivial, but there is heavy security outside the hospital to stop protesters from gathering. there have been copycat incidents across the region. at least four men have tried to kill themselves in the same way. in and out -- in nigeria in the past week, a man also set himself alight outside the mauritanian capital. the apple boss, steve jobs, is taking more medical leave from the company. he is taking another break to focus on his health, he said. he said he will continue as ceo of apple and be involved in major decisions. >> he is the face of apple, the world's most valuable and arguably the most innovative technology company. steve jobs is the visionary behind the iphone and the ipad. he has survived pancreatic cancer and underwent a liver transplant. now he is taking another the of absence on medical grounds. apple is not saying how serious it is. in the short term, the company will again be led by tim cooke, this co. -- the chief operating officer. but it is the long term that has investors concerned. >> it is the events of 2011 and 2012 and beyond when current products need to be replaced by new products that are equally forward thinking. >> the concern has led investors to sell shares in europe and all eyes are on the market reopening on tuesday after the martin luther king holiday. >> the concern is about immediate products. tim cooke has been praised for running apple even without steve jobs in the past. the dow is truly over future innovation. >> human rights groups have urged the haitian government to arrest and prosecute the former president, jean-claude do the day ford uses -- the jean-claude duvalier, for abuses the man also known as baby doc has come to help, he said, in the wake of the asian earthquakes. many say he should face justice. the names of the accused for the assassination of prime minister hariri are still anonymous, but the list is being spoken of widely. there will also be talks with the winner of the presidential election. a former swiss banker is handing over to wikileaks what he says is evidence of tax evasion of hundreds of corporations. he is due back in switzerland this week to face trial for stealing information from the bank. >> what i want to do is handed over to wiki-leaks. >> sensitive and potentially embarrassing information yet again in the hands of julian assange. this time, details of thousands of swiss bank accounts. t7+>h(v man that handed them o, rudolph elmer, is a former swiss banker. >> i have been there. i have done the job. i know how much is documented thejgq6%:rñd how much is not. first, though, the financial meltdown and the historic measures needed to rebounds the economy are making life hard for many in greece. they have to try to sell the proceeds of the weekly market, one by the garbage collectors association. >> once a magnet for antique collectors, this is now i hard times bizarre. the victims of the economic crisis. this man is trying to scratch a living selling items he seles from rubbish bins. he used to be a builder, but says he lost his job because employers hired illegal immigrants who accepted much lower wages. today, no one is buying his wares. it is dreadful, he says. no one has any work. no one has any money. and it is going to get worse. this woman -- and this man gets much of his stock from companies that have gone bust. most of his customers are poor migrants aiming for other european countries, but stuck in greece. i am not a businessman, he says. this is stuff we collect from wherever. we take it all, wash it, clean it, put it up here and try to offer it at a reasonable price so people can survive. the latest statistics show that one in five greeks is now living below the poverty line. that means they have an annual income of no more than 6000 heroes. this market is serving a great social need. most experts predict the economic crisis in greece will get worse before it improves. for many people, this bizarre could represent a glimpse of the future. >> the latest headlines for you this hour on bbc world news, six ministers of the old regime have kept their jobs in tunisia's new interim government. opposition leaders say that is no more than a face lift and the street protests will go on. apple co-founder, steve jobs, is taking more time out from the technology giant off, he says, to take time to concentrate on his health. israel's defense minister, ehud barak, has left the country's labor party so he can stay in the right wing governing coalition. there has been tension within the labor party as to whether it will remain part of the government. >> in jerusalem today, all eyes on one man. ehud barak, announcing he is leaving israel's labor party to form a new political group. jo@awe are forming to a new movement, which will become a new zionist, centrist, and democratic party. >> that party will be' b independence. it is another split in the political system that is fractious, to say the least. as defense minister, mr. barak is a key person in the government, a fragile coalition that contains almost every shade of the political spectrum but recently, many within the labor party have been threatening to leave the coalition, unhappy that it is too right wing. labor will now most likely pull out of the government, but mr. barak will not join them. today, he chose the government ahead of his now former party. the israeli left finds itself in disarray. >> this week's -- this week to seize one of the most important diplomatic encounters since president obama came to power. the chinese president came for talks in washington on wednesday. trade will dominate. chinese investment in the u.s. has increased significantly in recent years, creating jobs and saving companies. some see chinese economic power as a threat. >> in washington's chinatown, tony is expecting lots of visitors this week. chinese delegations to come to america's capital have to take presents back home. but they have a problem, one that should worry the president. nearly every potential gift is stamped, "made in china and" and not here. everything here is made in the usa the shot almost seems like a refuge for endangered species. in a country where the threat of decline is a national pastime, this kind of a heartbreaking thing is typical. in a plant where 1500 people used to work, shut for good. unemployment is a huge concern for the states and with recent elections, guess who got the blame? >> this factor used to be home to hundreds of american jobs, but this chinese what job used to -- is full of jobs that used to be in our country. -- this chinese factory is full of jobs that used to be in our country. >> we need to bring jobs back. >> but at this factory in louisiana, china is not an enemy, but an indispensable ally. chinese music tells the workers the conveyor belt is moving. chinese eng=nztprs tell americas how to get the best out of the new equipment. a chinese company has bought this firm and all over the u.s. they are snapping up training and businesses and setting up new ones. china may be the world's biggest market, but america is still the richest. >> prior to the chinese investment, we were said to put 15 people here. after the chinese made an investment, we now went from 15 employees to over 400 employees and have the biggest backlog i have known in my 30 years in the trailer industry here. >> you can see berkshires in chinese singing the praises of indiana. the state is trying to bring new business to the midwest and the governor, mitch daniels, a potential presidential candidates, has led a couple of delegations to attract potential investment. he told me when china owns so much american debt, it is time to get some of the money back. >> people where i live understand that you do not wring your hands about it. you try to organize yourselves to be the best possible place for business, which we think we have done. and then you go out into the world, including china, and try to repatriate some of those dollars and bring them back home to put them to work. >> still, some feel challenged by the rise of a potential rival, diplomatically, politically, economically. president obama said that they can help both parties. >> new leadership and an agreement on how the country can continue its dramatic growth. a few people are getting super rich, but the wealth gap has widened. high inflation is just one of the problems now threatening. some are questioning whether the mix of socialism and capitalism is holding the country back. >> communist vietnam is changing fast. two well-known brands, capitalism and socialism, now side-by-side. the gap is growing between the poor and the super rich. mr. vu is just 26. even if i wanted to buy a rolls royce from him, this one has already been sold for well over $1 million. there's a lot of new money in vietnam. and he told me there are plenty of people willing to spend it on fancy cars and even bigger things. big, private developers are chipping away at the old ideology and making a lot of money in the process. this is one of the country's richest men. his new building will soon be 48 stories high. it is the tallest in central vietnam. while the communist party is still in strength, money is shaping the future. >> now in vietnam, we need to find our own way. we will not follow china. we will not follow the western way. we will go a different way, with the people of vietnam. >> life is improving for many, but particularly in the countryside, the wealth gap is widening. high inflation is driving up the price of the basics, hurting the poor the most. the currency is weak and the country is in debt. meanwhile, countries -- companies are building huge empires. one has just failed with massive debt, creating a crisis. some blame the system. >> i think is more than just tweaking. we need to reestablish some principles of competition over favoritism and over using the power of the state to accumulate capital within specific companies within specific sectors. >> every five years, communist party delegates meet behind closed doors to choose new leadership and what the direction the country is going in the next five to 10 years. many want to see it continue growing. there have been some strong words from the party to get the economy back on track. those who have grown rich not like to make a lot of noise about it. -- those who have grown rich like to make a loud noise about it. bbc news, hanoi. >> if you or anyone you know is looking for a job, you will know how tough it is to find one in many parts of the world at the moment. part of the problem is making sure your c.v. mike joerres omae stand out from the others. >> looking for a job?
