Very good surveillance is very important to try to pick up these cases if people do come in and are sick, in particular to see if there is any kind of transmission locally and if there is, then jump on it with aggressive mosquito control. Meredith the zika virus is primarily spread through mosquitoes. The one major concern is the potential link to the zika virus and babies being born with brain abnormalities. Governor rick scott has declared a Health Emergency in several counties since people have been diagnosed with the virus. None of them are pregnant and no one contracted the virus here in florida. You look at central and south america, look at the unbelievable amount of zika they have there, look at the children that have the birth defects, you want to be prepared. And that s what we re doing, we re going to prepare for the worst, and let s hope for the best. Meredith experts say the zika virus has been sexually transmitted here in the u. S. Claire it was 5 00 a. M. , still dark when the 35yearold victim was running on what s called main trail. Approaching this bridge, she told police she noticed a man on the bridge, but didn t realize he was wearing nothing but socks and shoes until it was too late. He was smiling at the jogger when she went by. Claire police say the victim identified 28yearold Brandon Smith as the naked man, smiling at her and touching himself as she passed. And it s not the First Time Police have investigated smith this has been going on for four years now so is it going to , escalate . Is it going to be something much more serious . Claire the Victim Told Police smith didn t talk to her, didn t approach her, but she was unnerved enough to call 911 when she got home. I would just feel awful if i didn t call and i m like aw, what if something happens what if he, yea that s fine. Claire smith was sentenced to probation for exposing himself to a woman walking her dog in the same neighborhood in 2014, and in 2012, a woman claimed smith was naked, touching himself on the other side of a privacy fence but she didn t , press charges for fear or f retaliation. Claire a man who identified himself as smith s brother answered the door at smith s listed address but said smith no longer lives here and quickly became angry we were asking questions. Off camera, residents told us they are very disturbed about smith s alleged behavior, police said much the same on camera. Stewart Marion County sheriff s deputies say they were involved in nearly a standoff with a two hour man, before arresting him. Deputies say they arrested Jose Rene Marrero yesterday. They say they found him holding a knife to a woman s throat inside a home in ocala park estates. He allegedly told deputies that he was going to kill her, and then took her inside a bathroom. The deputies broke through the door, saved her, and arrested him. Angela the dea says it has broken up a major major heroin ring, operating out of east orange county. Right now agents say heroin problem in florida has not reached epidemic proportions, and as wesh 2 s Michelle Meredith reports, they hope busts like this, keep it that way. Michelle there is really nothing unusual about this house on Bowmaster Court in east orange county, but dea agents say it was actually the center of huge heroin operation. That we anticipated with the crackdown on the pill mills. Michelle a heroin operation, the dea says, is now out of business. The close to yearlong investigation was dubbed operation deals on wheels. It is scary. It was scary to the neighbors, because you just don t know what is going on next door. Michelle agents estimate the heroin operation was moving 4. 5 pounds of heroin and bringing in close to 300,000 every month. 10 people were arrested tuesday, including a 74yearold woman. She was wheelchair bound an elderly lady, and i m sure if you met her, very nice. But she was in the house with loaded weapons. Michelle on display at the news conference, tools of the heroin trade, guns, money, even a press dea say was used to make heroin bricks. Many of the neighbors we talked to had no idea what was going on in the house. Say, it never see something abnormal. Michelle the dea says the crackdown on prescription pills did bring a rise in the sale of heroin. And the heroin is actually cheaper. You can by user amounts of heroin cheaper than a single pill. Police say he was in a boat at the time, and after the attack, fell overboard and drowed. A fisherman discovered his body on monday, attached to his crab trap. Police have not yet found his next of kin so they have not released his name. Angela a titusville man, charged in connection to a deadly labor day shooting in 2012, now has his trial date set. William woodward will be in court on february 22nd. Prosecutors say woodward, who can be seen on a Home Security camera, went across the street to his neighbor s home, and opened fire.
