Investigators say they beat up and robbed a 74yearold man for his pain medication. According to police, the victim was hit with a cutting board and robbed of 100 pain pills. Identify the suspects to police. Wesh 2 was there when both of them were arrested. The suspect identified as 29yearold tosha mullins and 27yearold britney telegdy. The victim is expected to be ok. Angela this was the scene last night in eatonville, a town which is starting to become very familiar with this type of mess. A water main broke around 8 30, spilling water all over kennedy boulevard. This happened in the same area where a break caused another mess, just a few months earlier. Wesh 2 s Gail Paschall Brown found out the town hopes to have the issue fixed by tonight. She joins us live with an update on the progress. Gail . Gail that has happened, that water main break has been fixed. All that has to happen now is to get the dirt and feel it back in, lay the asphalt, and hopefully the road will be open sometime tomorrow. Neighboring businesses say normally this office is teaming with activity but today they got word 55 employees got laid off. Workers rolled down the blinds employees of the Fantasy Sports website fanduel. The Company Opened an office in maitland just last year, and at experiencing incredibly fast growth. But today, fanduel notifed the the state, it s laying off 55 employees. In a written statement, the company said, we did have a group of developers in the Orlando Office that were focused on research and development for ancillary games and applications moving forward. Fanduel has been embroiled in legal battles in several states where some claim the website is simply illegal gambling in disguise. A spokeswoman for the company told wesh 2 news the legal battles are part of the reason fanduel is restructuring, but she claims the company will continue to offer its core employees, who are primarily focused on Customer Service will remain at the office in maitland. Angela fanduel says the employees being let go are being offered two months severance and assitance finding new jobs. Jim Republican Donald Trump also dominated last night s contest, beating second place finisher john kasich by double digits. Speaking after the results were announced, trump made quite a promise. Trump i am going to be the greatest jobs president that god ever created, remember that. Jim governor kasich was able to get 16 of the vote for a strong second place finish. Ted cruz, jeb bush, and marco rubio round out the top 5. New Jersey Governor Chris Christie finished in 6th place. Wesh 2 political reporter greg fox shows us what you need to know to make sure you re registered to vote and able to take part. Greg the sounds of voting equipment being tested are buzzing in elections offices as florida readies for its primary, march 15. We re already voting. We have an active election going on. Greg Seminole County s elections supervisor tells me, overseas ballots were sent weeks ago and are already being returned. So too, are new Voter Registrations. The deadline to make sure you re registered to vote is next tuesday, the 16th. You can get the Voter Registration form online from your local supervisor of elections website and print it, fill it out and mail it to them. , you do not have to come to our office to register to vote or change your party affiliation. Greg to ready for the election, more than 600 people are being trained right now in Seminole County, for an election that in 2008, the last year of an open president ial race, 45 of voters turned out. While all voters can cast ballots for local elections and referendums, this is what s called a closed primary for the president ial races. The meaning that the standard bearer of the Democratic Party is selected by democrats, and the leader of the Republican Party is selected by republicans. [standby] meredith the centers for Disease Control in atlanta is already looking into the american cases. We spoke with some of those doctors this week. Obviously florida sees many many many visitors from affected areas and importation of these cases is inevitable. Meredith dr. Lyle peterson with cdc has been following all the updates on the zika virus, including the hot spots where the virus originated and then florida is one of those places with more than a dozen cases. Very good surveillance is very important to try to pick up these cases if people do come in and are sick, in particular to see if there is any kind of transmission locally and if there is, then jump on it with aggressive mosquito control. Meredith the zika virus is primarily spread through mosquitoes. The one major concern is the potential link to the zika virus and babies being born with brain abnormalities. Governor rick scott has declared a Health Emergency in several counties since people have been diagnosed with the virus. None of them are pregnant and no one contracted the virus here in florida. You look at central and south america, look at the unbelievable amount of zika they have there, look at the children that have the birth defects, you want to be prepared. And that s what we re doing, we re going to prepare for the worst, and let s hope for the best. Meredith experts say the zika virus has been sexually transmitted here in the u. S. And other cases reveal it has shown up in saliva, urine and even blood transfusions in brazil. Blood say the number one priority is the safety of the blood supply. In fact, there are new precautions in place if any donors have traveled to zika zones. Dr. Rita reik asking our blood donors to wait 28 days before they donate after they returned they have returned to the United States if they have traveled to the mexico, the caribbean central or south , america. The Justice Department is expected to announce it is suing the city of ferguson one day after the city council said it will amend this agreement on how to treat poor people and minorities in the suburb. The contaminated water in flint, michigan is being blamed for corroding a brand new fire truck. The truck is just a 1. 5yearold, but mechanics say the intake valve and the rubber that seals it are being destroyed by whatever is in the water. A mechanic took these photos that show pieces of flint s water line getting caught in the pumps. That s a brand new 462,000 pump that we re talking about. A former priest is arrested and accused of killing a woman 56 years ago. 81yearold john feit was arrested outside his phoenix apartment. Police say he was the last one to see irene garza who was a first grade teacher and a former beauty queen. Back in 1960, feit heard garza s confession at a Catholic Church in texas then her body was found , in a canal. Authorities are working to extradite him. Angela police say a man tried to smuggle meth into japan in a snowglobe. The suspect received a package from the u. S. Containing the knick knack. 900 grams of meth worth about 570 were dissolved in the water filling the globe. The man claims he had no knowledge of the package or the drugs. Right. Good evening, i m stewart moore. Angela i m angela taylor. The 28yearold is facing a misdemeanor charge but as wesh 2 s claire metz found out, police think their suspect has done this before. Claire it was 5 00 a. M. , still dark when the 35yearold victim was running on what s called main trail. Approaching this bridge, she told police she noticed a man on the bridge, but didn t realize he was wearing nothing but socks and shoes until it was too late. He was smiling at the jogger when she went by. Claire police say the victim identified 28yearold Brandon Smith as the naked man, smiling at her and touching himself as she passed. And it s not the First Time Police have investigated smith this has been going on for four years now so is it going to , escalate . Is it going to be something much more serious . Claire the Victim Told Police smith didn t talk to her, didn t approach her, but she was unnerved enough to call 911 when she got home. I would just feel awful if i didn t call and i m like aw, what if something happens what if he, yea that s fine. Claire smith was sentenced to probation for exposing himself to a woman walking her dog in the same neighborhood in 2014, and in 2012, a woman claimed smith was naked, touching himself on the other side of a privacy fence but she didn t , press charges for fear or f retaliation. I have no idea what happened. Claire a man who identified himself as smith s brother answered the door at smith s listed address but said smith no longer lives here and quickly became angry we were asking questions. Off camera, residents told us they are very disturbed about smith s alleged behavior, police said much the same on camera. We re concerned about this , need some sort of intervention or something to happen to change his behavior. Claire smith is scheduled to be arraigned on the charge of indecent exposure later this month. In ormond beach, volusia county, claire metz, wesh 2 news. Angela right now across south america efforts are being made , to fight the spread of the zika virus. In costa rica, Health Authorities have authorized the use of bacteria, to kill mosquito larvae. Mosquitoes are believed to spread the virus. The bacteria that is now being sprayed paralyzes the larvae and stops it from growing into an adult. Meanwhile Florida Health officials are trying to fight the spread of the virus here. So far 16 cases have been diagnosed, including one in a local county. Cases are being treated in osceola, santa rosa, st. John s, hillsborough, lee, miamidade, and broward counties. In some of those areas, Governor Scott has declared health emergencies. Stewart Marion County sheriff s deputies say they were involved in nearly a standoff with a two hour man, before arresting him. Deputies say they arrested Jose Rene Marrero yesterday. They say they found him holding a knife to a woman s throat inside a home in ocala park estates. He allegedly told deputies that he was going to kill her, and then took her inside a bathroom. The deputies broke through the door, saved her, and arrested him. Angela the dea says it has broken up a major major heroin ring, operating out of east orange county. Right now agents say heroin problem in florida has not reached epidemic proportions, and as wesh 2 s Michelle Meredith reports, they hope busts like this, keep it that way. Michelle there is really nothing unusual about this house on Bowmaster Court in east orange county, but dea agents say it was actually the center of huge heroin operation. That we anticipated with the crackdown on the pill mills. Michelle a heroin operation, the dea says, is now out of business. The close to yearlong investigation was dubbed operation deals on wheels. It is scary. It was scary to the neighbors, because you just don t know what is going on next door. Michelle agents estimate the heroin operation was moving 4. 5 pounds of heroin and bringing in close to 300,000 every month. 10 people were arrested tuesday, including a 74yearold woman. She was wheelchair bound an elderly lady, and i m sure if you met her, very nice. But she was in the house with loaded weapons. Michelle on display at the news conference, tools of the heroin trade, guns, money, even a press dea say was used to make heroin bricks. Many of the neighbors we talked to had no idea what was going on in the house. Say, it never see something abnormal. Michelle the dea says the crackdown on prescription pills did bring a rise in the sale of heroin. And the heroin is actually cheaper. You can by user amounts of heroin cheaper than a single pill. Michelle how cheap . Agents tell us 10 a hit. So how many more heroin rings are out there . Law enforcement says they really have no clue. In orange county, Michelle Meredith, wesh 2 news. Angela ten people were arrested tuesday morning, however agents tell us two more are on the run. Stewart the daughter of a man who was murdered in 2009 appeared in tallahassee today. She wanted to plead with lawmakers to approve a fix for the state s Death Penalty. Last month the u. S. Supreme court ruled florida s system was unconstitutional. Emilee cope says the state needs to fight to keep the penalty to bring justice and peace to families like hers, impacted by violence. I ask you to focus on the suffered greatly and their families, to ensure that justice is served and that peace of mind is granted that these horrible individuals will never walk free. Stewart the Supreme Court says giving judges, not juries, the right to order the Death Penalty is unconstitutional. Angela a bill restricting florida abortion providers is on its way for a vote on the floor of the state house. The bill passed its final House Committee yesterday. The bill takes aim towards planned parenthood and would prohibit medicaid from paying for any services. It would also requires doctors who perform abortions to have local hospital admitting privileges. Backers say the bill intends to protect the safety of women patients. Opponents say it s aimed to restrict the right to an abortion. The New Hampshire primary is a thing of the past. Now the candidates are full speed ahead to South Carolina and the next primary election. Aixa the democrats tomorrow night, the republicans on saturday night. Stewart wesh 2 has learned that the man whose body was found floating in the Halifax River this week had a heart attack. Police say he was in a boat at the time, and after the attack, fell overboard and drowed. A fisherman discovered his body on monday, attached to his crab trap. Police have not yet found his next of kin so they have not released his name. Angela a titusville man, charged in connection to a deadly labor day shooting in 2012, now has his trial date set. William woodward will be in court on february 22nd. Prosecutors say woodward, who can be seen on a Home Security camera, went across the street to his neighbor s home, and opened fire. Three men were shot, two of them died. Today wesh 2 talked to the mother of one of those victims. Would change the length of time a family has to go through this. They shouldn t have to go through this for three years and five months. Angela woodward unsuccessfully argued he was standing his ground, a strategy that added months to the case. Stewart st. Paul Catholic School in leesburg was back open today. This, after students were kept out of class yesterday, so the building could be disinfected. A spokesperson tells wesh 2 that many students and Staff Members came down with flulike symptoms, including fever, cough, and congestion. Parents were notified monday. As part of the best foot forward Pedestrian Safety initiative , local law enforcment held a crosswalk crackdown today. In this video, an undercover Orlando Police officer repeatedly used the crosswalk in baldwin park. Drivers who failed to yield were pulled over down the road by operation best foot forward claims that Metro Orlando is ranked as the most dangerous pedestrian metro of the past decade. Walgreens is trying to help you get rid of unwanted medication. Stewart it s rolling out a new program in several state, including here in florida, aimed at cracking down on drug abuse. There s humidity, temperature fluctuations, if the bottles aren t sealed correctly moisture can get in. Jazmin experts say a safer place for meds believe it or not is your dresser drawer. Here s how you figure out which medications are no longer safe to take. Open the packaging, make sure it has been sealed properly. Liquids might start to clump or the product might start to separate. If the tablets look crushed or discolored or cracking even though they are within date they jazmin once you know what to keep, you can t just toss those old meds in the trash. One way i recommend is take any of your capsules, tablets medications that you have that are expired, crush them up a little bit, add a little bit of water, they recommend to either throw old coffee grounds, food scraps, kitty litter, saw dust anything to make it filthy or putrid so that someone s not going to want to dig through there and find them. Rachel sines i did not know him, and he cross my path one evening and changed my life forever. Brett rachel sines relives a nightmare from nearly 10 years ago explaining how she returned home to find a stranger in her apartment. Rachel sines i felt like i lost everything that evening. My whole life was shattered they took everything, my cell phone, my dignity. They were first to start putting it back together. Brett sines sought comfort from the Victim Service center in orlando the group hosting the breakfast, and the one that helps crime survivors. David sines you cant really talk about this with your friends, how do you bring that up . About the anger, that sadness, brett the men s violence prevention breakfast honored some in the Community Serving as leaders providing support to victims of violence. Sines told us after the outing that coming forward is the first step to healing. Remaining silent only helps your perpetrator, helps your victimizer. Brett the Orlando Police department was also recognized at the breakfast. They helped find sines attacker in less than 48 hours he was put away for four life sentences. Angela if you ve spent anytime at all outside this week, you know Central Florida is experiencing some some very cold temperatures. In response, orlando s coalition for the homeless is taking action. The group has decided that tonight, it will not refuse help to anyone seeking shelter from the cold, regardless of how much space they have.
