Police say 19yearold jacob almond was killed and another person is wounded when gunfire erupted last night at the serrano apartments on cyprus woods drive near kirkman and conroy. Wesh 2 s Michelle Meredith joins us live from the scene. Michelle, you spent the day there, what have you learned . Michelle we ve learned that but two apartment complexes here on cypress woods drive. This morning, investigators walked across the street from one apartment complex to the next, trying to piece together the sequence of events in this double shooting. A shooting that took one man s life. Only 19 years old. I waited for a little bit, and i could hear the ambulance and fire, so that was somewhere close. Michelle scot says from inside his apartment he heard the shots. It just seemed like boom boom boom boom boom boom. It was like six shots. Michelle investigators say it started around 10 30 tuesday night at the serrano apartments off cypress woods drive near conroy road. According to police the victims, two men, were parked in a car about here when the gun fire broke out. The people that did it, you could tell it was done execution style. Michelle this man, who does not want to be identified, says he was a witness, says after the hasty exit in a vehicle. Jump into it. Slam it in reverse. And pretty much proceed to take off through the complex. Michelle the witness says he tried to save one of the victims, who was lying on the ground. Then he says he saw the two men, the suspects, barrel back through. Proceeded on cypress woods, and in the meantime we heard two or three more shots across the street. Michelle across the street is summer gate condos. Police have confirmed that one victim went there to get help. The double shooting, the killing of jacob almond, has rattled the confidence of folks living in both places. We re learning new information about the Murder Investigation of an orlando woman last year. Sasha samsudean s body was found in august in her uptown place apartment. A just released autopsy shows strangled. Police say the building s security guard, stephen duxbury, killed her. They say samsudean was intoxicated when she came back to her building, and duxbury helped her back inside. Recently released Surveillance Video shows the two of them together that night, moments before she was killed. Police say this video contradicts statements duxbury made to police during their initial investigation. Just yesterday duxbury was indicted on first degree murder charges in the attack. Right now, Winter Park Police are trying to figure out if a rash of car dealership burglaries are connected. All crimes have gone down on used car lots, the most recent happened overnight at World Transport on clay street. Three high end cars were stolen, plus the keys to the rest of the cars on the lot. Window, where the air conditioning unit was. They took to bmws and a mercedes suv. Two people are in jail tonight, accused of breaking into resort rooms at walt disney world. They are charged with two counts each of burglary and grand theft. Wesh 2 s Adrian Whitsett has they stole items from more than adrian Orange County deputies burglaries at disney s Saratoga Springs resort may be solved with the arrests of 19yearold Minoska Guillen and 25yearold jake blair. Deputies working a burglary detail in january say they noticed the two trying sliding glass doors. After arresting them and searching deputies say they , found two dozen electronics and accessories on the pair, including a laptop, 7 ipads, and the items came from two other burglaries nearby. Both are charged with burglary and grand theft for those incidents. Tourists along idrive told us how they d make sure their stuff was safe. Angela we first reported last night at 5 00 that orlando was forking over 75 million to help build a downtown campus. Jim wesh 2 s greg fox looks into how the city will make this happen and when. Greg ucf has had a downtown presence in orlando for nearly a decade, but wants to expand, along with valencia college, to build a campus for roughly 7500 students. It would include ucf class space on the south side of livingston street between hughey and parramore. And valencia space closer to the old arena site in the planned creative village. To make it happen, the mayor is asking council to approve a donation of 15 acres of land, deed over the building where ucf street. Developers would also donate land worth more than seven and a 7. 5 million, and the city would donate 2 million in parking garage space. Buddy dyer it s a great investment for our downtown. Gail orlando mayor buddy dyer believes taxpayers will recoup the investment the city is putting in when other businesses build in the creative village and more property tax revenue rolls in. The zika virus is spreading rapidly posing a future threat to as much as 63 of the u. S. Population. The virus is spread by specific breed of mosquitoes. But heath officials in texas say they ve now identified a case of of zika that was transmitted through sexual contact. This is the first known case of someone being infected without doctors say it involves a patient who had sex with someone infected with the virus who recently returned from venezuela. Fears surrounding the zika virus could hurt the travel industry. There are more than 30 cases reported in the u. S. , but they ve been among travelers to more than 20 affected countries in central and south america. Pregnant women are being told to avoid traveling to the areas where zika is spreading. Dave Marion County airport managers say the hang gliding group is not a tenant here, but they use the airport like any other aviation enthusiast. The Marion CountySheriff S Office provided these photos of the hang glider taken after tuesday evening s tragedy. 40yearold Tomas Banevicius crashed during a training flight. Ryan robbins he was going through a practice run. Some type of winch system to help get him off the ground. Dave the Sheriff S Office says the victim had already completed two practice runs on tuesday when around 6 00, he was being towed to get altitude for his third trip. Ryan robbins once he was up in the air, we believe he was under 100 feet in the air, when the hang glider lost control. We understand it guided to the right then impacted the ground. Dave he was pronounced dead on scene. Investigators say he s been training with this same group in new york for a few months, and this was a continuation of that s office continues to investigate, but for now says this appears to be ryan robbins a tragic accident at this time is the best way to explain it. Dave the u. S. Hang gliding inc. Website says it s a full service hang gliding Flight School based in new york that winters in florida at the Marion County airport. We called the local number on the hang gliding website, and the person who answered said they would not be commenting at this time. According to their website, right now they are closed. Stewart the victim in this crash is listed as living in new york. It s not clear if he was vacationing or possibly here on an extended stay. Today hugo terry, the man convicted of killing an Orlando Police officer, was back in court. Right now terry is spending life behind bars. Convicted for his part in killing officer al gordon. The court is now revisiting that sentence now that a Supreme Court ruling found anyone under 18yearsold should not be given life sentences. The resentencing hearing was pushed off until may 4. Losing control of her jeep. Investigators say Savannah Noriega was driving south on providence just before 1 00 a. M. When she lost control and slid across the road. She hit a curb and overturned in a yard on giles street. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Angela a small plane in Brevard County had to make an unusual landing this morning. It happened in merritt island. We re told something went wrong with the plane s landing gear , and the pilot had to land the plane on its belly. The pilot and passenger were not hurt. Brevard county fire and rescue was called to the scene as a precaution. So far, no word why the landing gear failed. Right now, police are investigating two cellphone store robberies, both in seminole county. The first happened at a store on 1792 in longwood, the second on wesh 2 s Jazmin Walker explains how it all went down. Jazmin well guys, the burglars hit two local Sprint Stores this morning. You can see the damage left behind at one of the locations. In this case the thieves used a in, and then took a couple of iphones. A store employee tells wesh 2 there s Surveillance Video of six or seven guys taking part. Another sprint store was hit on red bug lake road in the oviedo area. In this one, the crooks broke in through a side window. It looks they were after beats and jbl headphones. Investigators say they stole for payers. Four pairs. We looked over the Police Report it looks like those headphones are worth a couple hundred bucks each. Authorities say these were the only two stores hit overnight. Stewart the family of a Boynton Beach man, killed last year by a plainclothes officer, appeared in tallahassee today. The parents and sister of corey jones are fighting for a new bill, regulating the use of police body cameras. Jones was shot by a Palm Beach Gardens officer when his car broke down on interstate95 on his way home. The family s attorney spoke on their behalf. If there were body cameras, we all would have answers as to why a church drummer broke down at 3 00 in the morning on october 18th last year, was confronted by an ununiformed officer and is dead. Claire the homeless may have been removed from congregating in one place downtown, but city leaders know the bigger issue didn t just disappear. However they re getting some big , financial help to address it. 100,000. Claire glenn ritchey, the city s former mayor, now acting in his capacity as a big business owner, is part of an alliance of local ceo s who quickly raised 100,000 to help the homeless. Though police dispersed the dozens who set up camp along downtown beach street, Homeless Needs now have to be met at the space was created to shelter them, or at area hotels where some of the homeless were put up. Food, clothing, travelers aid all are expenses the private dollars will help meet. This issue has to be settled , and to do that, their has to there has to be a plan, and to create that plan we need to work together. How are we as humans allowing this to happen . Claire the sight of the large homeless camp in the heart of downtown was certainly not what the head of the area s lodging and Hospitality Association would call a plus, but bob davis said he went on a fund raising mission among hoteliers out of compassion for those less fortunate. I m bringing 10,300 to the city but it can only be used for food and shelter. Claire other donations have trickled in but most of the cost of homelessness is still being carried by the city the taxpayers, so it s the Long Term Solutions they ll be most anxious to hear about.
