This is an incredible time lapse as you can see. Over. Moving in. I4 stops just about. Heavy rain pouring down. It made for about an hour or so can very clearly see the sky beginning to clear. The sky was clearing because of the cold front. At this hour, it across south we are nice and quiet. There is downtown orlando. A few clouds, but i4 traffic, not having to deal with rain in temperatures as the sun sets working down in the midrate of the 60 s. Mid range of the 60 s. I will talk about fog and the forecast neighborhood by neighborhood when i see you in just a couple of minutes. Jim the heavy rains caused a lot of pooling in the middle of an i4 work zone. It caused one car to stall, now crews are trying to figure out a way to prevent it from happening again. Wesh 2 S Dave Mcdaniel joins us live along i4, with more. Dave . Dave when it come to roads and rain, few things are more important than drainage. That the exactly why in work zones, those concrete barriers are designed in such a way to provide drainage. They all have drainage slots built in along the bottom. But they only work, when they aren t blocked. They say turn around, don t drown, but i4 drivers heading east near park street had to go around this standing water. Good bit of the reason, but dirt along the i4 ultimate construction zone, piled right up against the barriers, apparently kept water from draining away. David parks we had a significant amount of rain, and combine that with the work zone conditions that we have out there, temporary barrier wall, new temporary lanes. All that combined for a perfect storm, if you will, and added that flooding across i4. Dave one car even stalled in the water. Road rangers arrived to help him and stop others from driving into the mess until they get water flowing again. David parks dug a temporary trench and as soon as were able to open that up, water started coming off of the roadway. Dave the trench worked fine, but parks admits this will be a Lesson Learned as they look at more than five more years of road work, and during that time, who knows how many heavy rains,. This problem came during an el nino season, but Central Florida gets plenty of regular rains. David parks we re going to look at what we can do, what worked entire project, and add additional drainage to areas where we have dirt stockpiled ready for additional roadways. Dave thankfully no cars were damaged, and nobody was hurt. Again, we had some reports of trees down and limbs, but thankfully, no reports of any property damage. As far as power outages, at one point ouc was reporting 9000 people without power. In Seminole County over 5000 people. At this hour, only small pockets of lost power. All will be restored very soon. Eastbound traffic slowed to a crawl just before noon, after a tractortrailer jackknifed near the fairbanks curve. It was a ups semi. It came to a stop just west of Calvary Assembly church. Angela thank you for that update. Tonight Orange County sheriff s deputies say a man who tried to burglarize a winter park apartment was stabbed to death. The people who were inside called 911 to report the break in. It happened at the oak reserve apartment off aloma avenue around 6 30 this morning. Deputies say one of the people stabbed the burglar in selfdefense. I wouldn t want anybody to be killed, but i m glad that he s not running around breaking into other apartments. Angela investigators say the jim sure deputies are investing a homicide investigating a homicide. This is in the southeastern portion of the county. The victim is a black man with a tattoo on his right eye set. Bicep. They are trying to figure out how he died. A man charged with battery on a Law Enforcement officer has been called not guilty. August. James wilson was attempting to arrest Terry Johnson in the parramore neighborhood. S body camera video in october but which revealed that he was trying to psych johnson for sitting with his legs in the road on city property. They found him not guilty of bettering the officer, but there is a trial for sitting bidding in the eye of a angela the search for a helicopter that collided off the coast of hawaii continues. Kevin mack was riding the shoulder of state road 44, just about a mile east of i95. He was hit by the truck, and the truck kept going. The driver was arrested just 6 miles away. Police say he s jonathan gibson. They say he was drinking, and that they expect additional charges to be filed. Right now investigators are still working to figure out what caused an accident last night, involving a sheriff s deputy cruiser. It happened around 7 00 last night, along americana boulevard and john young parkway. We re told the deputy was rushing to the scene burglary at the time. The cruiser rearended one car, pushing it into another, the deputy and two other people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. An arrest has made made in an august murder. Alfred jenkins was arrested on firstdegree murder charges. He is accused of killing a 60yearold last august as he was walking to his car in lake elfrid. Neighbors reported several gunshots and found the victim next to his garage. It appears to be completely random. Angela Norm Wolfinger was laid to rest in titusville today. Hundreds showed up, to bid the former brevardseminole state attorney goodbye. Wolfinger was first elected in 1984, and served for 28 years. Under his watch, criminals such as vampire rapist John Crutchley and child killer mark schwab were put away forever. Wolfinger was also a decorated vietnam veteran. He was 70 years old.
