Not often I think that maybe I don't know maybe there's a certain arrogance here I hope not but I think that I have a way of giving people do zay don't particularly like to hear without it being too objectionable I hope so I did it's part of how I have made these mentor friends and my colleagues who work with me now having said that of course I've had and I've had more than one person holler at me about how outrageous this was or that was but pretty pretty infrequently now I read a delicately sensitive subject I went looking in the book for Tina Brown and Harvey Weinstein because you were business partners once they're not here and I probably would have made the same choice I probably wouldn't put him in but looking back should you have known that Harvey was just this awful person was there any way to figure it out not really not really I mean I knew of his general personality but look I deal with people who have a variety of personalities no one certainly I didn't have any insights into the core of this and this was really a great appetite for having Tina work for and with us I had tried to hire her as I say in the book I wanted to come and edit Harper's Bazaar and I thought she could bring one after her experience at before talk now we're talking about that. Vanity Fair and The New Yorker that she'd bring a dimension to Harper bazaar along with the fashion that would make it a big success and so that was that what caused me to make a mistake I got the opportunity for her to come to work with me and with Harvey and it didn't take very long before it was very obvious that this was problematic and you know I give Tina along with other competitors a tip of the hat in the book when I talk about magazine editors I lived. Period of the best that ever was and some work for us and some work for condé Nast and elsewhere you know what I like Frank is that everybody's career is going to have a Harvey Weinstein in it literally everyone's career is going to come right and you've got to walk away from them when you figure it out and you did we did we did now you know Frank talk to me a little bit about media I obsess on it occasionally because I think it's becoming a disaster read media in a blue media it's not it's not the neutral media that I grew up with and you grew up with with Walter or Huntley and Brinkley it's not the reliable media that we could all trust it's become a deeply partisan media what do we do about this well I hope that there are some outlets that can return some confidence are our principal problem now is that we don't have the confidence of our audiences and without it there's no question that that that's earned and you know you know as well as I do that what we now have these strong opinions is a product that long existed in Europe for example if you go into a coffee shop there whatever paper they have under their arm tells you their politics what nobody knew in the United States was that if you went down that road as Rupert did just start with that you could get the size audiences and have the success and of course then once that was in place it's obvious that the flip side of that which is a mess in b.c. And to some extent people believe c.n.n. And I'm not thrilled with that I'm sure you aren't either you know I used to hear on all of them I know I'm I do missionary work at m s n b c I tell people I go over there as a center right conservative and do missionary work and I I try and put my $0.02 on the table at the y.
