In real time. 1410. This is dash car law now back to Mike sadly Thanks for choosing to hang out with us on this week's next car live although we get to walk it's one m.r. Inskeep him Kuhn sat down with Danica Patrick to talk about racing and some things she likes to do away from the racetrack it's this week's Nascar live face to face interview him kind of the motor racing network alongside Danica Patrick you're on a bit of a hot streak recently consecutive top 15 finishes in the last 4 races what have you in the team head on that's led to the song performances I mean I feel like we've actually had the chance to do that most of the year by had some terrible luck so you know I don't think it's not been there but I think the most important thing that we did while the bad luck was happening running or running like that was that we just didn't let it beat us down we just didn't. You know we didn't let it seep in and take root and be this negativity that you couldn't get rid of so you know this is one of those sports like like so many and like life to be honest where you know you just you have to stay positive you have to see the good in every day and you know our goal is to win but you have to set small goals along the way and so top $150.00 our goal and you know we've been accomplishing that more consistently so you know once that becomes what we feel like is is our solid position you know we eat that on up and we expect top ten's and then you go fives and then you win and then life is good just going to ask do you feel like a positive attitude leads to good finishes or good finishes lead to a positive attitude or maybe is it a little bit of both I would put good mood leads to positive finishes before anything. Yes it can make you feel better when you have a good day but consistency and consistency only comes through a positive attitude so I say Be positive 1st which is harder living a life of recent can be a bit grueling but you and Ricky Stenhouse Jr Have a great really. What's the dynamic like now does it make it easier that you both understand and or maybe does it make it a little bit difficult when one maybe has a better performance over the weekend than the other you know our very 1st year together we would kind of come down for each other like instead of getting excited about a good weekend we would like Oh you don't want to be too excited because the other one had a bad one and then the next year I was like it's not going to be like that we can't do that if you have a good weekend I'm going to get excited for you and so so we've kind of been like that since and so. You don't feel like you see that a lot there are a lot of new winners and you know we go out we celebrate with them and I don't think that it takes anything away from who you are what you can do in fact I think it adds to it when you can celebrate somebody else's success. It doesn't take away from you at all so so we cheer for each other but it's you know we're I feel like we're lucky to have each other in this relentless schedule and. Be able to sympathize with each other and understand we definitely understand there's no doubt about that you guys had a little fun earlier in the week you visited Madison Wisconsin for the Cross Fit Games I know you're a big crossover yourself a big workout queen What originally got you interested in this and you were there to cheer on some friends Yeah well we're friends with rich Froning who has a team called cross that made him so and he was individual before that to us when we met him and he won the Games 4 years in a row so extremely fit human being and now he's on team made friends with other people along the way there's another girl I met named Margot Alvarez she she makes wine just like I do so we connected through that and and then some of her friends and so so it's spread out but you know it was probably the beginning of 2013 that I tried cross it for the 1st time and it was a Saturday workout which Saturday workouts or team workouts and so. We won and I was so I mean I got to have a little we won so but I just think that it's the 1st style of working out that I've ever. That is really fun because every single day is different but it's also effective I think sometimes the fun can be like you know I loved walking through the Watkins Glen National State Park which was lovely but you know that walk is not really going to be that effective so cross that is fun and effective do you have any drivers that have you know gotten their interest because you do or are you trying to drag them along for your workouts. Yeah I think there is since I think it's definitely some interest but I think there are also some are probably intimidated and don't have a good workout program I know you'd come with I would you mention your wine you also released a book as well as a clothing line you say so busy how do you find time for at all between the racing schedule and everything you do off the track Yeah the book comes out in January so it's been a really really it's been over a year now of working on it of you know coming up with the workout program the 12 week workout program writing recipes photographing the recipes it's been a lot of work but you know what I feel like over the winter I worked extremely hard and I the thing that I was told to people when they asked as I said the more I do the more I do so you know I don't know if you can relate to this but when you have a lot going on you start writing down your list of things to do and somehow you write it down and it happens so you know it's when I have less to do that I accomplish less I feel like is it like I got time and you don't really think too much about it and they're like oh shoot I forgot to do that the more I do the more I do but when the season came I was like All right I'm done doing things that are not mandatory so I really have only done the mandatory stuff pretty much throughout the season so I could focus and feel like refresh very hands on with the book it sounds like then for the for the wine line you have as well as the clothing line how hands on or off for you for those Yeah they probably are a little bit less hands on I mean I don't exactly I don't make the clothing I don't . The cad designs for the clothing but I am like I am I'm like their worst enemy I'm the critique I'm like why do they do this why does a new that I feel this tag here why do we have a tag there so I'm kind of like I feel like I'm quality control as well as design inspiration for sure so you know every collection is is designed with you know my photos that I send them in mind and. And so you know creative director is my title which is really cool but it's a fun process and I'm going to send and selling it I mean that does take some time so so so that's that and then with the wine again I don't I don't you know farm the farm the land I don't I don't put it in the tanks or the bear rolls I don't I don't stomp on. Stocks. So you know that's definitely done by the farmers and by the wine maker and everybody so but again same thing I mean as far as you know creative director I mean it's you're given the land and the grapes and varietals and the root stock that's shows in the clone the clones but the you know the the style of wine is something that I talked about a long long time ago with my wine maker and so that's there but I mean these are all things that you know when I'm old and dusted from racing of able to do a lot more with and go to a Napa Valley wine auction and you know go to fashion we can go pick out fabrics and all kinds of stuff like that but but right now it's about focusing on what brings brings the attention and what that what the job at hand is which is racing so I'm semi young I can't even say I'm young anymore I'm $35.00 but they'll be time to get more engaged with all those things when when I have it when that time does come is there one avenue that you've really connected with in your business is off the track that you're like man I want to pour even more heart and soul into this all of them I mean all. The only thing I haven't done that I do want to add to the list is have a cooking show. But other than that I mean I have a feeling those those 4 or so businesses will locate in fairly busy kind of cooking so it may be healthy I think that's one thing that's lacking in cooking shows is you know a show that really really focuses on really healthy ingredients it's not it's not that there aren't times and places for a stick of butter but it's not every day that is for sure I mean it should be anyway I'm all about you know eating foods with the highest density of nutrition possible. And it can taste amazing there's nothing wrong with it people seem to think that eating healthy is somehow like really awful and it's you know there's no one that comes over to our house and eats that I don't cook for me I don't make 2 meals I make one and if I'm cooking in a make it the way I want to make it and there's no one there walks away and things that was an awful meal it's delicious and it is all extremely healthy. That's Patrick and Kim Kuhn as they spoke over the weekend at Watkins Glen International coming up on Nascar live will go beyond the track with some of the drivers in the way they deal with social media and later Dale Earnhardt Jr will join me right here . This is Nascar law now back to like that thank you so much for joining us on this week's edition of Nascar live over the weekend the in car audio was pretty interesting between some of the teams the drivers at Watkins Glen especially Kyle Busch here some of the best from Watkins Glen on this week's Nascar live backtracks. The way to go your way or the other It I don't know about the calipers. At the wheel so obviously. Had some power. To full speed just. To take the car back to the. Power at all levels of. Like a call for a cylinder. Here Rocco. Here's Daniel Suarez. Coming off turn number 7 to the line one last move but Suarez when stage to his 1st stage wind up the year. Back. Oh Ok. Which is up Kyle Busch or Brad Keselowski make contact they go sliding out of the inner loop hole in the. Arm. Kyle Busch straight to bit Rose left side tires a party going on right side tires now on out of Stevens down to no mistakes. Back and walk ins plan we have a new leader Brad kills while speed made the pass by. Martin Truex Jr with 13 laps to go and we can't make it to the end here nobody can we get that under but. I'm talking about. We. Can get it back if you want to go all you need is a drop of fuel does he have enough to get to the line here to come up to our number 7 Truax up front up Matt Kenseth and George Jr We'll pick up the winner here at the end of the point for a couple but we have to have her. Yeah because. You know I think. Rick I. Think I think that's what it sounded like Sunday afternoon with this week's Nascar live backtracks you know a lot of your favorite drivers are getting more and more comfortable with social media and actually today you have more access to your favorite driver than ever before but sometimes that brings out the worst in people for more here's a Nascar live beyond the track with Tyler Burnett just imagine what the Nascar industry would have been like in the seventy's the eighty's even in the ninety's if Twitter and social media played the same role as a dozen our lives now with the Intimidator been ridiculed by fans on Twitter for moves like this behind us to the soul or Rusty Wallace and Dale Earnhardt get together and Wallace goes into the outside wall of the Allison brothers and kill Yarbrough share their immediate reaction following the 1979 Daytona $500.00 and the famous fight and now it appears we may have a fistfight no one will ever know but it's fun to think about you see nowadays is about as common to share your personal opinions on social media as it is to wake up in the morning and drink coffee or walk your dog in fact it would be odd to share those with your friends through various platforms it's so common to use social media that the president of the United States uses the various tools to voice his opinions that's the day and age we live in but How has social me. Changed the landscape of Nascar this past week at Watkins Glen cow Bush got on an airplane following an incident with Frank get Glenn Kyle Busch or Brad Keselowski make contact all the way home 30000 feet in the air he proceeded to voice his opinions and replied to many unhappy fans showing real emotion in real time a few months back we asked Bush his opinions on the positives and negatives of a world filled with social media he said this positives of course all the networking you know the opportunity to reach so many people in 5 seconds of sending out a tweet or whatever the negatives just all the negative out there you know the people that want to contradict what you're trying to do all the negative comments that are that are out there it's like a message board you know people hide behind screen name sometimes and ridiculous fictional facts. Little wannabes they're writing up their own little deal and talking about us we don't need or do we at least I find it entertaining NASCAR's most popular driver Dale Earnhardt Jr might be the best when it comes to interaction on Twitter he says the sarcasm of people is probably the biggest draw I really enjoy social media I love the sarcasm in you know you get to know everybody so much better because we don't ever have time to really be spent much time just take me myself or the drivers all the drivers in the media we don't really spend much time around each other and these press conferences and stuff interact a little bit with you know do a story to gather chat and social media is so funny is you know I've gotten a lot of y'all in and how y'all view. You know the sporting world and it's a lot of fun his teammate 7 time champion Jimmie Johnson enjoys doing what cow Bush did last Sunday maybe just a little less harsh of the plane following a race and have a few fun Twitter battles with fans you know her balls fund and I've sat in on some conferences where they like don't don't engage with negativity and I mean come on they're going to sit there and throw rocks at them. Thrown back. More than anything in the sit on the flight home I think every driver is and his wife I So if you're looking for something to do and if there's a way to common and negative just a witty comment it's fine it's fun to sit there and think of a creative response and fire back when of course if there's a negative one and I can find something creative to send back and read his last you think social media is a great way to showcase the many personalities of Nascar nation getting we do to engage our fans in the 1st analogies is great and I'm Where will you be comes to Chicago's fastest loop for the precinct tailgating music . September 17th tickets for Sunday. Camping spots. Fast. And uncertain to get your tickets in campsites and Chicagoans people come. Up start here. Will hear from some of the Washington Redskins and Dennis bit minor next this is Nascar live on the motor racing network the voice of Nascar. Your summertime checklist is pretty simple comfortable chair warm sunshine and when you're. A little bit in the App Store. Deal. This is Nascar law now back to Mike Bagley we welcome you back to Nascar live we are at Richmond Raceway with one of the Washington Redskins rank you're going to just climbed out of the car with Dale Earnhardt Jr what you think about all that it was awesome that's you never I've never been that fast in a car obviously and so that it's experience that was was pretty damn cool now have you been a Nascar fan I mean have you always been a follower of our sport Oh yeah I've always followed Nascar My dad's a real big fan and so when I told him I was getting a ride what they'll junior today he was he was pretty jealous about that and so it was it was definitely you know once in a lifetime kind of thing for me today now as far as you follow Nascar do you keep track with the races when did you start how long have you been a Nascar fan Well I mean I remember going to way back when it was Winston Cup I went to. Winston Cup race when I was when I was a young kid and I remember being at the race once you know if and you know you know into it the fans are very kind and you're like man this is a there's a special thing that they got going here and so I was kind of when it started back when I was young now as far as the age old debate of our Nascar drivers athletes we know you guys are in stick and ball what you think about what Dale Jr does on a weekly basis and you saw him strapped in obviously you want to Camaro you weren't behind you were inside the car we did what Nascar drivers and what they do in the athleticism that they have Yeah definitely takes a unique set of skills to be able to do that for you know 3 or 4 hours on an every every week and I mean because I was and we went around the track I think 3 or 4 times and that was that was a lot just physically you know all the all the you know momentum and inertia you're feeling on that so to be able to have that kind of an focus and be able to lock in like that for for that amount of time is definitely you know admirable now your business is about the pick up here because you can restart your season do you have any opportunities to get to the racetrack to see this in person I do not really I haven't I this is the 1st time I've been tracking all of them very well and since I probably since I was not I went to the and went to the Brickyard a few years back someone from Indiana but yeah this is the most of what I get to see is on t.v. Now you're wrapping up training camp House camp gone give those Redskins fans a little preview about what we can expect when I guess as soon as Thursday night pre-season with the Ravens I think they're going to I think fans who don't like what they're going to see were kind of flying under the radar now because you know some of the some of the things that are in our division the other teams have done but you know I feel like you know this underdog role will be good for us I felt like the guys we have a feel like we've you know really developed throughout camp and I feel like we got a good group Thank you Brian we appreciate it now let's get the thoughts of Washington Redskins quarterback Kurt Cousins who's been on track with Dale Earnhardt Jr albeit in a Chevy Camaro What are your thoughts when you say you're on the racetrack all we had a blast really enjoyed the experience. He's a great guy it's great there's a Redskins fan and we got up close to the wall it was really cool to go that fast so close to the wall what kind of conversation did you and he have and have you and he had about but ball goes as you know he's a big Skins fans Well yeah we did my 1st day meeting him so we didn't get to in-depth about anything but he's a come out to practice later today and hopefully we can throw him a pass and get him involved in the office a little bit see that he's got a great guy and just settle for the career he's had and the way he's been able to represent a family now as far as you do you have any Nascar experience have you been in the any races do you follow along I haven't been my college roommate was a huge fan so he would always have the racism he would teach me about it and and what these guys are doing and what they're going through so you help give me a better understanding so he would go to Michigan Speedway and watch some of the big races and. He's a big fan of the Earnhardt said a poster of Bell's dad over his dad so. You know this is this was fun for me I'll do that no one you know how and passion my college roommate was I ask Ron I ask you as well how did how did training camp go for you and what kind of Skins fans expect here in the 201718 season Well you know in this league you know every week comes down to the last 2 minutes but we're excited for the team we have the locker room we have got a good coaching staff good continuity we've had a great camp good offseason program so everything's lined up to have a great year but as you know it's a competitive league and we'll see every where we stand at the end of it but we're going to have fun and hopefully when a lot of games get those rescues fans I'm sure about Thank you Kirk All the best for a successful 201718 season and we swing over speak with the president of Richmond Raceway Dennis big Maher who joins us on Nascar live how are you man I'm great now what a day so far Wow describe this state to our listeners we just heard from Brian Kerrigan and Kirk Cousins But obviously this is done in conjunction with Dale Earnhardt Jr a lot of hype around the regular season ender coming up a ritual here in a few weeks definitely federate out of parts $400.00 on September 9th but the Redskins are in town for training camp has been great to have him in town it's their 5th season here Dale Jr Sirhan 8 imagine that plus he's a huge Redskins fan so it's just that. Everything just really lined up for send him given rides to some of these players and seeing their expressions it's it's priceless you know it's funny as you watch these guys on the gridiron and these are big tough men but when they come out of these cars man they're shaken that something on the outside of the current moment I don't think he's ever had an experience like that or you know I think I heard Josh Norman scream and coming down pit road so that was that was pretty good I think he got a heck of a ride so yeah but again I'm a huge football fan as well and it's great to see these guys and see you know 2 sports really come together and talk about what it takes to be an athlete and some of the intricacies of the sport well there's going to get up taste of that this afternoon when he goes to camp I can't wait to see that too let's talk about what you and your team are doing here at Richmond you announced obviously some changes that are coming to the racetrack Let's talk about the leading up to the Federated 400 What's life been like around these parts ever since you've made the announcement and rebranded the racetrack Well actually the rebranded been really well received by the fans and we kind of started teasing it with a little red and white stripes on the wall and brought the red and black back into our logo and became Richmond Raceway again and and then with the infield project since that announcement the momentum and the feedbacks been positive and it's really I have to say it's that spark we needed it's really helped ticket sales over the last couple weeks that they haven't Dale here today is going to help that as well so we're going to keep driving forward 32 days ago can't wait to get here and can't wait to get back and see who's going to be racing for a playoff once we leave here though in September what's next when does the 1st shovel go in the ground here for this renovation 5 about 2 or 3 days after so late Tuesday the following week after that Saturday night race this place all gets torn up here in the infield and in a year's time it's going to look a lot different I work side about being able to bring this new attraction to the fans and be something really cool for our sports for the fans who come down into the fan zone it's really going to be an immersive experience rushing in to get to walk into the garage and and see tech inspections by going to go back right where you are sitting right now it says going to be pretty amazing i courage I want to go to Richmond Raceway dot com Look at the renderings that are on there. Really a lot of excitement around this new infill project I think Mike for us momentum is a word we keep using momentum momentum and the be able to announce a big project like that I think it's really energized the fan base center jobs our team are looking forward to this and I believe it's energized the sport as well most importantly how do folks become a part of the fun here in what about a month and a half or so 2 months how can we how can folks be in the place that countdown clock out some offices 32 days now and so Richmond Raceway dot com Give us a call 866-455-7223 which is race but you know as you said regular season finale we're on a crown a regular season champion for the 1st time a lot of excitement and as you know as you guys talk about all the time who's in who's out you know we're going down to it now and next year's fall race will be inside the playoffs What is that mean for for Richmond Raceway same thing a lot of excitement around that it's different and what we've been talking to community leaders around here in town is we're going to be a playoff city next year so I actually have a meeting later today with a group to talk about you know playoff fever coming to Richmond so we're already looking ahead to that we obviously got April 28th team but there's a lot on our plate here Michigan Raceway appreciate having us thanks man thanks for being here that's Dennis pick mar the president of Richmond Raceway coming up next Dale Earnhardt Jr will be on Nascar live. This is Nascar law now back to Mark Bagley Welcome back to Nascar live now joined by Dale Earnhardt Jr spending the day at Richmond they've been here it's been great weather ended up cooperate with us we get the track dry and take some laps. Take some of the Redskins players around the racetrack for for a few laps and show them a little bit about what we do treat for maybe all these years what's the feedback been from them what they tell you. They loved you know something comparable I think to what they see and feel in the fields they love the sense of energy and excitement it was anything too far for them well you've been at Richmond all day today were you ready to actually go to training camp but we do though this track been pretty special to the our hearts over the years are your most fondest memory of racing at Richmond and what just went on here been coming here long time started coming here in 81 seen a lot of races over the years of history strikes in a change in evolve into what it is today coming here and when an extended series early on in my career really made this place pretty special to me going forward we've been able to continue to be successful here since then so as we look forward now to races this weekend at Michigan and beyond took us more chances to get into Victory Lane Let's start 1st with Michigan what do you expect out of the team the car yourself everybody when you go into the Irish Hills this weekend and thereby still chasing the 70 $840.00 to be he was pretty competitive there in the thing winning the race there last trip so. You know we were live it off as good as still you know I thought we're talking car had some good speed we just didn't have exactly what they had so hopefully we've gained a little bit. In the time it's been since we've been there last and you know we've had fun and we had the track I think we're going to work it out for sure a lot of speed needed to run their house Michigan involved lately last handful of races what's Michigan been able to give you Michigan is a. Track we've had some wins and track that off you know go in feeling confident in which just have to. Worked really hard to be able to speed those guys those guys Michaud and over the last several months lately we've seen some adjustments to the way we do things over timeline Cup drivers expanded the series What are your thoughts on where we are as a sport right now in the changes that we're making going forward how they were making great changes you know we always like. To try a lot of things not everything's going to work to the feedback from the fans are always have a competition committee and driver Council also gives great feedback and a lot of collaboration. I think that's why we see so much changers a lot of change in the sport with this it's all it's a due to the collaboration and back and forth worked and NASCAR's opened up to doing with the teams and drivers here lately I know that there was a one point where you we didn't have that I mean it was just like do as I say and now that everybody has input What's it like being able to get that him put to the sanctioning body and help guide the changes in the sport it's crazy as it works when it doesn't work and if your idea is not very far and you get a really under you get and you get an appreciation for Nascar situation where they're having to make those decisions make major changes to the sport that are really going to affect it it's very tough slot on the line so I certainly have got an appreciation for how tough their job is Appreciate you joining us here on Nascar live and enjoy the rest of the time here to look at Michigan this weekend appreciate it thanks thank you that's Dale Earnhardt Jr at Richmond Raceway spend some time with Richmond nation here and off to training camp he goes to his and my beloved Washington Redskins coming up more on Nascar Loth.
