Well look at our elections director. But first, here is todays eye opener at 8 00. When the race first began, clinton was reluctant to draw too much attention to her gender. But she is flipping the script. Donald trump and his advisers dont believe in the polls. What they do believe in are large enthusiastic crowds. What do you make of all of this . Candidates not in the lead always talk about how the polls amazing. Thats what president. And theyre up against the youre guerrilla tactics being used isis. He was shot but somehow managed to steal a Police Officers truck and started posting videos to facebook live. First pitch expected to happen right this shortly after 8 00 tonight. The two teams have a combined 176 years without a championship. To put that in perspective, that game feels. President obama last week said that this years election is like dontes inferno. Thats fine as long as it doesnt turn into a disco inferno. . No matter who wins, rhythm loses. Listening to . Got it. Im charlie rose. Election king is two weeks from today. Early voting is under way in more than 30 states. Donald trump held a series of large rallies yesterday in florida. And Hillary Clinton campaigned in New Hampshire. They attacked each other, but also talked about specific policies they would fight for in elected. Were going to make affordable child care so nobody income for child care. Were going to work for paid family leave. Tariffs on companies that outsource american jobs. The companies leave, they fire their employees, were not going to let it happen any longer. Were going to close the loopho loopholes, we will end the fact that millionaires can pay a lower tax rate than a nurse or a teacher or Police Officer. Class families, a big one. Public colleges and universities, tuitionfree for any families making less than 125,000 a year. Legislation to provide School Choice which the labor ups, the unions dont want to allow. And were going to end common core and bring our education local. Of course i want you to vote for all of us, but more than that i want you to vote for and for your families. And for your hope for our future. There has never been a political phenomenon like what were doing right now and were all part of it. And we have to finish it off. So get out and vote. Hillary clinton and donald trump will both Campaign Today in florida. We are near the end of an unconventional election, but as usual the polls are becoming a bigger part of the story. Clinton with a nine point lead over donald trump. To put it into context, we examined 40 years of cbs news polls to look at other races two to three weeks before the election. At this time back in 1976, carter led ford by five points. And that was nothing compared to bill clinton in 1992, his 70 point advantage over then president george h. W. Bush twar ofs Hillary Clintons margin in 2000 george w. Bush led al gore by two points in our poll. That was a little more than two weeks befe election in modern american history. Eight years later, barack obama held a comfortable 13 point lead over john mccain. Our elections director is with us. And the point is the cbs news polls have been pretty accurate. Weve done okay. The Trump Campaign put out a memo yesterday in part to raise money, but in it said if trump wins New Hampshire, colorado or pennsylvania, he could win the election and that recent polls maine, florida, nevada and North Carolina. How does that memo square with the truth . Hes down in most of those states and hes down in the Electoral College overall. But it didnt mean hes out. The difference is voters in polls tell you what theyre going to do. Weve seen that over history, over time. And right now we find that Donald Trumps voters are willing to talk about voting for donald trump. Theyre proud of it and theyre telling that to pollsters. Theyre telling their friend and family, so theyre not shy about it. Theyrow the other thing is, though, they say they think donald trump is talking about the issues and topics that he wants to talk about, not what they want to hear about and that is changing washington and that is the economy. Your point is there is no secret trump vote out there that is not showing up in the polls. And even if you look at the early vote, in florida for example, you analyze that and you see that he doesnt have a lot of new vote coming in, most president ial elections. And one of the things they have talked about is rallying this new set of voters. That hasnt shown up yet. When there is a change in the last two weeks, generally what causes it, is it voters coming home to their natural political place or is it some outside event . Coming home is a big part of it here. Touchdown has been down with republicans relative to how well Hillary Clinton has done with democrats. Shes got 9 in 10 democrats even after the whole Bernie Sanders fight back shes rallied her base. Ea hes still got what i call the reluctant republicans, lanlgly suburban women, hes running about ten points down in state after state especially College Educated women who are reluctant to come over to his side. If he can rally that base back to him, then he gets a lot closer. There is so much talk that Hillary Clinton has already won. Isnt there a danger in that for around . Yeah, that comes with the territory of being a polster. Both sides want to posit think youre wrong. The winning side doesnt want their voters to be kocomplacent. Hillary clinton needs Younger Voters and that is a turnout issue. And democrats will rely on the turnout. Can he turn it around. Can we talk about texas . Early voting has begun. What are we seeing there . Texas is exactly that kind of underperformance. With College Educated white voters, with white men and white women. Now, donald trump is still winning them, but hes not wing them by the kind of margins that republicans typically do. And that has made the race close. Do i think latinos . And who he say they are motivated, that they cant wait to vote. So you get that part of the electoral all for hillary. Is it within the margin of are error . Hillary clinton can outright win texas, but the closeness tells the story. I think its interesting because i think that texas stays republican, but i do think its interesting about how that state could trend purple in upcoming president ial elections. Right. Start to tilt. Like North Carolina did. Exactly. Texas girl and North Carolina boy. Tomorrow we will look at the Supreme Court under the next president , two famous lawyers studio 57. They faceoff against each other in bush versus gore. The Supreme Court case that decided the 2000 election. Millions of americans will face big price hikes when obamacare open enroll the begins. The government says cost of mid level health plans will increase by an average of 25 . That will hit consumers in 39 states. Major carriers are dropping out in some markets. Provider, government numbers show about 2. 5 million americans not currently enrolled could be eligible for subsidies to offset cost increases. We need a bigger understanding of why this is happening. Because the idea was not only to spread coverage around, but that by spreading the coverage around, not only would it help get people care, but it would ultimately bring costs down and instead the premiums are skyrocketing. So what happened. And who is pti or is it the way the law that was set up failed. An interesting steeory. The 8yearold daughter of a california Police Officer killed in the line of duty received a moving escort when she returned to school. How are you doing . Good . Good morning. So that we can integrate new technology and new medical apparatus and procedures, and so its its a show about the very cutting edge of medicine today. And the people who come there recourse, i assume . Yes. Usually theyre a hard case of some sort or something thats interesting to us as doctors, or the, the sort o tech billionaire whos trying to change the world. Notice he says, us as doctors . In the episode of our first season i think that very question becomes really like the guy nort and more about what hes capable of doing. I love the tech part of 9 show. Everything that happens there is really real. There are real illnesses, real diseases, but fascinating to see how you incorporate detechnolog in the show. I want to do what i saw in pure genius. I guarantee you, this will happen. On thursday night at 10 00 for the foreseeable future, and friday morning people are going to be calling their doctor saying, hey, can we get that for my grandma.
