Its called the resiliency in communities after stress and trauma grant and mayor barrett says its one of the largest grants ever awarded to milwaukees health the purpose of the program is to assist highrisk youth and families and promote resilience and equity in communities through violence prevention, Community Youth engagement programs, and Behavioral Health services. Local Officials Say its a step towards a great solution. Its not as if 5Million Dollars changes this, but its the ability to pull together people to have a common vision about how to approach it and then bring the right partners to the table to address it. This announcement comes as a 9year old boy remains in serious condition after he was accidentally shot by his little brother. Brother. It happened just before four yesterday at 20th and hadley. According to family. The 6yearold found a gun inside the home and accidentally shot his brother in the back. Police led a woman out of the home in handcuffs. They have not yet told us her connection to the incident. Family members say the boy lives with his mother and stepfather. They se 3 its sad when a kid goes in his mommas property or fathers property and get a gun and play with it. You know guns is not even safe especially if they know how to take the safety off, a 6 yearold shouldnt even know how to remove the safety on a gun. So apparently the gun wasnt on safety. Police say they were found a 20yearold man in the street with a serious gunshot wound. There is no word yet on any suspects. The shooting is under investigation. The numbers tell the story. Milwaukee police say they have reported 95 homicides this year along with 409 nonfatal shootings. Both numbers slightly down from this time last year. Now aside from todays grant. The Milwaukee Common Council did recently propose a safety plan. It calls for hiring 280 more police hires to deal with a spike in crime during the summer months. Officials also want to rely less on electric monitoring and come up with alternative option for juvenile offenders rather than sending them to the troubled Lincoln Hills facility. The Common Council is expected to hold public hearings on the plan, but has not yet scheduled any.
