There was a physical fight and someone started shooting. A 22yearold man was shot, but is expected to survive. The second victim. A 22yearold woman had a graze wound and was treated on scene. The medical Examiners Office ys fentanyl deaths are on the rise. And cld increase by almost 200 percent in 2016. Cbs 58s julie parise joins us live from he medical Examiners Office. Julie, we know the office is looking into four deadly overdoses from over the weekend. All four of those overdoses area hospitals. With more than 120 overdoses deaths in the county since the start of the year, its become milwaukees number one avoidable cause of death outnumbering homicides and traffic deaths. The Milwaukee County medical Examiners Office is calling this a tremendous increase. They say while overdoses are seen routinely in this area, the number has dramatically increased. One toxicology expert says the office averages one heroin overdose just here in lwaukee across the country, experts say narcotics areig problem. I think were seeing a new epidemic and the epidemic is people taking narcotics. Theyre causing problems and a significant number of overdose and deaths. There can be lethal consequences. 3 the medical Examiners Office says the most effective way to stop the rise in Overdose Deaths is to educatee peopl and get these drugs off the street.
