But will be using while it is a westerly winds now, it will become northerly later tonight, kim porting chillier temperatures in the 40 s, and getting up tomorrow morning and heading out mostly freezing, around 40 in boston. Tomorrow cooler than today, pretty much staring in the 40 s. There will be some sunshine and patchy clouds. Changes come on thursday. Jc thank you. We want to go to the News Conference that is happening, Salem District court, after the guilty verdict for Phillip Chism. That s for killing the 24yearold colleen retzer. They are offering up a News Conference, and family members. Let s listen in. All set . The jury for their very hard and diligent work during this trial. The Time Commitment was extreme and the facts were excruciatingly horrifying, yet they did their job and did it well, and want to thank them for the dedication. I want to thank my team of professional and competent attorneys for the work they did to help bring justice to the memory of colleen retzer. Cate mcdougal is one of the best trial attorneys in massachusetts without question. Melissa watered, who assisted her, is a dedicated attorney as well. Amy o sullivan, my appeals unit, was doing extraordinary work as well as balancing parole hearings and appeals, court appearances. The three of them put in countless hours. You don t see this in trial. Trial is their product, but you don t see the countless hours of preparation and devotion. Holidays, saturdays, weekends. They diligently prepared this work. The superior Court Attorney is my advocate who was assigned, and she gave everything she had to provide assistance to them. The professional Law Enforcement personnel involved in this, the police department, the Massachusetts State Police including the Crime Services unit and crime lab, the k9 unit, all were dedicated and professional at helping us in our preparation for this case. There are a few people i want to department. He was here every day, worked diligently. People on the scene that day. Patty ambroise, chief of police in danvers. As well as the other police cooperation. I also want to point out that paul getta postponed his retirement at the request of the judge so that he could make sure that the court was orderly and the process works the way it should. I want to thank paul and wish him a great retirement. Judge david lowey deserves special mention. He was tested time and time again. His patience was tested. And he conducted himself with and frankly the way he conducted himself should be a highlight reel for other judges. He provided a fair trial for the defendant and made sure that the courtroom was conducted in an orderly manner. Most important late this belongs to colleen retzer and her family. We can t bring her back, but we can give some sense of justice to her family. Tom, peggy, and dan and laura have shown a giddy and grace through this entire ordeal. No family should have to go through the horrific, horrific life they had to go through with the murder of their daughter. One previous time i mentioned this, october of 2013, i said to you that khalid retzer was a beloved figure colleen retzer was a beloved figure, and nothing has changed. Trial, her memory, her dedication to goodness, her outlook on life has only been enhanced, and i want to thank the retzers for their courage and dignity. There were two people who had many supporters in the courtroom, family, friends, people from andover. Two individuals were there every single day. Detective norman zork and state Police Detective steve volkari. Both gentlemen were there every day to provide assistance t and comfort. As you saw during the proceedings, we stand for something. We stand for justice and we stand, with and for victims matter who they are. At this time, eddie wishes to make a statement. At the conclusion they will take questions. I will answer some questions that i can, but today is a good day for the commonwealth. Our family would like to thank the jury for their fair and careful consideration of the evidence and facts presented during the past few weeks. We would also like to thank the judge for his commitment to bringing this trial to completion. What we were put while we were pleased with the verdict, we are aware of the judicial process will continue. Appeals will certainly be filed, and given the state cost guidelines for socalled juvenile sentencing, we may be forced to publicly endure this this guilty verdict, while the beginning of justice, is certainly no cause for celebration, as there can never be true justice for the crime committed. There remains a tremendous and painful absence in our lives, one that, sadly, can never be replaced. Our family enters a new phase in our lives, one that we have no choice but to begin. However we do so knowing the remarkable difference colleen made in our short lives and continues to make in the lives of so many. We continue to witness or impact among her students and those who never had the opportunity to sister, or daughter. Her spirit continues, particularly in the recipients name. Those who claim to emulate colleen pursue their dreams to teachers. As part of this new phase in friends will continue our how one person can make a we will honor her legacy and be her voice during the continued judicial process. Colleen never gave up and neither will we. We will not allow her death to define how she is remembered. In our darkest hours, there have been a number of individuals in addition to family and friends who provided a shoulder to cry on, who devoted their professional resources to ensure a just resolution to this agonizing ordeal. We want to express our gratitude to the District Attorney and his office, particularly Kate Mcdougal, david o sullivan, their passionate efforts to ensure justice for our daughter. Their personal attention to this case, inside and outside the courtroom, was comforting to our time. Case while demonstrating paramount respect for colleen and caring compassion to our family despite difficult circumstances are beyond appreciated. We also share our sincere appreciation with a lawenforcement community, who view this as more and just a case. The Massachusetts State Police, danvers police, and the Salem Superior Court officers have demonstrated the highest level of compassion since our unfortunate meeting two years ago. Their caring , we have witnessed the same kind that to find colleen. One of her favorite quotes was there is something good in every day. To celebrate our love for her, and in recognition of the many lives she touched and continue to influence despite the immense loss, we will carry on and do our best to find the good in [indiscernible] never. We left at every charge as a charge that was brought with the utmost confidence in the jury did their job. We are grateful for that. We believe should be brought. [indiscernible] well, i can t say any better than Kate Mcdougal said, when she said that further delays described. [indiscernible] not at all. The commonwealth presented the case and the jury did its job, outcome. Da continues. The emotional strength of the parents, standing alongside, mom saying tonight that colleen all he said something good came in every day. Jc it s not a day to celebrate, according to the da. There will never be justice. There remains the pain of the absence of colleen, but they will continue to move on.
