The first votes counted in the New Hampshire primary. And those results could be a foreshadowing of whats to come. Good morning. Thanks so much for being here with us. Im Erika Tarantal. Randy and im randy price. Were live in the Granite State this morning as polls open. Emily riemer and Kelley Tuthill are tracking all of the developments asoters make their voices heard. Emily has more on the votes already cast. Good morning, emily. Emily we just heard the shout, the polls are open. The line formed there had streamed right now. Sit really anyones game right now. Three very small town did welcome voters at midnight. On the democratic side Bernie Sanders took two of those three towns. Hillary clinton took millsfield. Two of three towns among g. O. P. Voters. Ted cruz took the other there. These only amount to a handful of votes. It could be the start of momentum for these candidates. Much more ahead this morning. First we want to check in with cindy. No snow. Cindy how about that, emily. Look at temperatures though. Teens at the bus stop this morning. Near the freezing mark as theyre getting off the bus this afternoon. Worcester right now 16 out the door. 19 lawrence. Up to 20 in boston. You can see upper 20s down on the cape. Below the freezing mark. Do keep that in mind. That little band much snow morning. Really falling apart right now. Flurries around fitchburg to shirley and these are really falling apart. Low impact overall. Notice what is happening as we get towards lunchtime. Northerly winds may allow some oceaneffect snow showers to flirt with the south shore and the cape. But its not going to be a big deal. I think the rest of us are looking at just mainly cloudy skies throughout the day. Morning to near 30 by lunchtime. Looking for a High Temperature to with a northerly wind about 515. Right around boston colder north and west. Upper 20s through the worcester hills. May top that freezing mark from marshfield down to the cape. All eyes on the roads watching for the slippery spots from yesterdays storm. Olessa it might still be slick especially the secondary roadways. The major roads look okay. Crews were all out all night working to make them look like this. Thats eastbound to the top of the screen. Lets see what is else is going on as you travel into town. A couple disabled cars out there this morning right now at the leverett connector southbound. 93 a disabled truck blocks a lane. Storrow eastbound by the longfellow bridge the same situation. South of town youre doing okay. 24, 95. Route 3 there are some delays out of weymouth into braintree. Once you get there 1520 on the expressway into boston. Pike looks good. Another disabled car 128 north by route 9 and also by winter street on the southbound side. Then 93 southbound starting to methuen. Andover and dascomb road and down to wilmington and once again approaching spot pond. Trains and buses still running on schedule. Emily. Emily for the crowded republican field, today will be a fight to just stay in the game. And this image may look very different this time tomorrow. The eyeopeners Kelley Tuthill is live in nashua with the final flourish that you could call offensive. Kelley just call it an exclamation point on whats been one of the most unconventional campaigns this state has ever seen. Trump she said i never expect to hear that from you again. She said bleep . Kelley the crowd cheered as donald trump took a cue from a woman in the audience to describe what he thought was rival ted cruzs weak response to this weekends debate question about waterboarding. Meantime, with just a few hundred at his rally, marco rubo is fighting for the numbertwo better longterm choice. Rubio the democrats do not want to run against me. They know if im our nominee, we win. Just today another poll comes out and confirms im the only republican that beats Hillary Clinton in New Hampshire. Kelley one undecided voters telling us the sheer number of candidates in this race is making it hard to decide. But its time. Right, emily. Emily absolutely. Lets switch to the democratic side for a second. We have a oneonone battle here that is only getting more heated. Kelley a tight race here as well. Hillary clinton and Bernie Sanders are locked in this race after that virtual tie in iowa. Clinton telling our janet wu, the sanders camp has demonized her. Clinton i do think that the more to rein in some of the really meanspirited, hateful rhetoric that unfortunately theyre putting out there. Kelley at the same time, clinton accused sanders of taking money from wall street firms through the Democratic Senate campaign committee. For his part, sanders stayed on message in derry last night not addressing his rivals comments. Sanders together were going to create an economy that works for working families not just the one percent. Kelley polls do show sanders with a big lead here. As weve seen before, those polls dont always get it rye. Emily. Emily kelley, well have to wait and see for the moment, right . In the meantime, we have some clues, three things to watch for today as voters head to the polls. Our democratic analyst mary ann marsh says, look at the polls. The closer Hillary Clinton gets to within 5 of Bernie Sanders, second, watch the turnout. The higher the turnout, the better the chance for sanders. And finally, look for buses on the roads. If there are a lot of buses at u. N. H. And all the other colleges, thats good for Bernie Sanders. Sameday registration in New Hampshire, college kids love Bernie Sanders. Hell register them, take them to the polls. Advantage Bernie Sanders. Emily there are plenty of signs to look for in that crowded republican field, too. Well break that down in our next half hour. Randy, back to you. Randy emily and kelly, thank you both. Newscenter 5s reporters and analysts will have the results as they come in tonight. Our coverage begins at 4 30 p. M. We continue to monitor any new developments as they come in. Randy . Cindy . Randy thank you, doug. Right now crews are cleaning up after the storm rocked the coastline. This was high tide in marshfield overnight water pouring over the sea wall and onto the street. Cindy, snow is really just part of the issue on the south shore. Cindy it was the snow and the whipping winds and especially the flooding left behind by that high tide. In brant rock, plows were moving rocks left behind by crashing waves. The surge of water flooding streets all over town. Another issue whiteout conditions for much of the day throughout the night. You know the drifts are crazy. In my backyard, theyre up to four feet high. But just snow blowing now, its probabaly five inches. Cindy a new seawall in marshfield prevented extreme flooding like in the past. Com and upload it in the ulocal section of our website. Cindy a lot of kids havent done that, rise and shine, since thursday. Olessa back to school today. Cindy the storm is over. A couple slick spots out there. The worst of it is past. It was an official blizzard yesterday. In a lot of spots. We had six communities meet this criteria. The blizzard has to do with the wind blowing the snow around and reducesing the visibility. We met that criteria from nan tublght and vineyard all the way up to plymouth yesterday. Chat a. M. , hyannis, falmouth all coming in this morning. Three hours of those blizzard conditions. Hardest up through parts of the south shore. The amounts really dropped off. Many communities came in in the lower range of the forecast. But it snowed all day long. It just took a long time for it to accumulate. We did manage 10 inches nantucket plus close to 10 west yarmouth, east falmouth, brewster all nine inches of snow. Just over eight in plymouth. North weymouth had close to eight. Framingham over six. Boston 6. 4. Worcester with 5andahalf inches of snow. There it goes. You can see it pulling away from us. Steadier snow in northern maine. Another storm to our south. West. We are by no means in the clear. Around. Of days. Weve had scattered snow showers morning. They have fallen apart. The last of the flurries are gone. Around clinton. But those are now gone. A couple of light flakes from man manchester to concord. Were drying out this morning. Thats great news. With temperatures in the teens this morning. Its 15 right now in worcester. 19 in lawrence. Weve got mid and upper 20s once you get south of plymouth out to the cape. Things are quieting down for most of us. With any surface that was not treated overnight it may be slippery. Keep that in mind. There is the potential for a few additional snow showers as we go from lunchtime into the afternoon. There is a northerly wind today. That may be enough to generate oceaneffect snow showers. They flirt with the south shore and especially the cape. Most of us a fair amount of cloud cover throughout the day. Upper 20s worcester up into the merrimack valley. Well be in the lower 30s today from marshfield down to the cape. Tonight you fall back into the teens and 20s. The clouds are sticking around. Another storm going by to our south may start energy back for some steadier snow for at least part of the day especially south of boston. A cold front off to the north. Were going to watch this come through and bring in much colder air startling at the end of the week. So let me break down tomorrow for you. Snow showers in the forecast. During the morning commute, westward, a band of snow may push into southern New Hampshire. Then as we geet into the afternoon look at this area filling in here south of the pike. None of this storm tomorrow but with some of these snow showers and areas of light snow, minor accumulations are possible. Anywhere from a coating to about an inch of snow. Amount s are not enough but enough certainly to make it slippery tomorrow. So its not the a. M. S were focused tomorrow. It is is just the fact that there will be snow showers. Once we get past that, really cold heading into the weekend. Coldest air of the entire season. Valentines day near or below zero. Olessa it can only get better from there. Cindy youve got it. Olessa were in the middle part of february. Were almost there, everyone. It is a quiet day. Southbound side heading to the bottom of the screen. Traffic getting by without any major problems. Might be slick in this spots. To the maps now. As you travel into town a couple of disabled cars 93 south at the leverett connector. Disabled truck still in place and then as you travel north of there, were watching an accident northbound 93 by it is northbound so shouldnt impact your commute too much. Of course expect the southbound stopandstare delays. 9 south also slow out of methuen down to andover, wilmington and down to spot pond. 128 south by winter street, a disabled car. Another disabled car cleared by route 9. The pike east 15 min fritz 495 to 128. South of town 24. Route 3 out of weymouth into braintreen and then 20 min its the expressway into boston much trains and buses still running on schedule. Emily. For months, New Hampshire has been at the center of the political universe. A whirlwind of candidates all clamoring for that allimportant primary win. And that very different New Hampshire voter. And, boy, do they vote. Polls opened less than 20 minutes ago. It is jammed at the polling location. The Granite State, traditionally, has one of the highest turnouts in the country. In 2008, a recordbreaking 500,000 people cast primary jump to 600,000 this year. A big portion of them those muchsoughtafter independents. I think they will matter more than ever. Their numbers are growing. But again, with so many candidates, really good candidates on both sides, youre seeing that theyre really trying to get the independent voters. Its sort of a wild card. Emily a big factor, for sure. And one to watch as the votes come in tonight. The aftermath of mondays storm is causing some concern here. Up to eight inches fell along the seacoast overnight. Much of the Granite State, seeing between 35 inches. Thats more than enough to make the roads slick and discourage people from heading out. But many voters y they dont take the election lightly. This is the live free or die state. Very, very serious. This little snow, like 45 inches, nothing. We can all vote, i hope. Force this morning, making sure those roads are clear. We should say, New Hampshire voters are often more motivated than most. Weve seen the proof of that here with this very busy polling location that opened just 20 minutes ago. Randy thank you, emily. Another winter storm another fight over parking in east boston. The mayor stressing no space savers allowed. But for some, thats a hard habit to break. For decades, residents believed if you shoveled it out, it was yours. But with only a couple inches of snow and the streets cleared, some say the space savers are unnecessary. And thats turning neighbor against neighbor. The city says you can report illegal space savers to bostons 311 number or online. Public works crews will toss them on trash day. Erika another rally is set for today over wages at logan airport. To 15 an hour will demonstrate at the statehouse before a hearing on the issue. Slippery this morning. Radar quieting down now. Weve had a couple of scattered snow showers moving on through. Its a mainly cloudy, mainly dry day. Might be an oceaneffect snow shower on the cape or the south shore. Near freezing this afternoon. Better chance for snow showers tomorrow. Notice the temperature on thursday headed down.
