All week long you guys have been talking about the storm and how its going to inch closer, but today for the most part if youre in the boston area, not a bad day. Cindy not until 3 00 this afternoon. Then that snow is going to start. Its just creeping north ward. Cindy thats a different story to our south. The highest report weve seen of virginia. Over 20 inches of snow on the ground and its still snowing by the way. Were going to be measuring this in feet down the coastline. We are being looking at the potential for, you know, for one to two feet of snow down toward the d. C. Area, places like baltimore and also back toward philly and new york city. That is where we will be talking about seeing, yeah, upwards of a foot of snow. Theyve had quite a bit already. Danielle will go over more of those amounts coming up. The snow extends as far south as South Carolina and georgia. Thats the southern end. The heart of the storm right now is from new york city back to d. C. Especially west of d. C. Right now. Theres rain creeping in along the coast. Were on the northern fringe of this storm so weve got still many, many states under a weather alert here. That blizzard warning from d. C. , new york, and yes now it does extend up towards Marthas Vineyard. Not just snow with this. Its wind. That combination reduces the visibility. Quarter of a mile for three hours. Thats when you get a blizzard. That criteria will met on marths vineyard. Winter storm warnings and Winter Weather advisories are up for later today through tonight and they end first thing tomorrow morning. It looks like its snowing right now through a lot of connecticut. Only some of connecticut is seeing the snow. You can tell by looking at the visibilities here its still around 10 miles. Hare forward south. Around the coastline it drops to a mile. Down near zero on long island that is a heavy intense band of snow working north ward. See this blue band right here. Its very, very slow and pivoting north ward. Just about a threehour loop. Show it very slowly shifts north ward. Running into a lot of dry air. The dew points are in the Single Digits to around 12 in hartford. Until we can moisten up that air it will be tough for this to move north ward. Winds are coming in off the water. Tass wind increases and the storm inches closer eventually well push more of that snow in. It takes a good long while. By noontime it is still down southern rhode island finally snowing across most of connecticut. It will be about 3 00 before it inches close er to the boston area. And then notice by 6 00 this evening, if you have plans this evening, boston out to worcester up through the north shore, this is where there will be some snow. That may continue through about midnight qualify this whole area starts to pivot eastward. Its gone first thing tomorrow morning but it will be snowing hard for a lot of southeastern massachusetts during that time. Thats where were going to see the most amounts. I can take you in just a little bit tighter here. Boston out to framingham and worcester. I think youre going to be about two inches. North of there the a. M. S drop off. You go south of there, we ramp up to about five inches by the time you get to brockton and marshfield. 510 for a lot of southeastern massachusetts. One thing i want to caution you about. That wind is going to be coming off the very warm water here at the outer cape in nan tujt. There will likely be mixing but either way it will be a heavy wet snow. When you couple that with the winds that may cause problems. Well talk more about the winds with danielle. Danielle thats right, cindy, we were talking about that heavy that can take down tree limbs and power lines. That can cause Power Outages. We are concerned especially for you folks that live on cape cod or the islands. They are going to be seeing it. Lets talk about the wind gusts if we can. Those wind gusts are going to be in excess of 50 miles an hour. If you live in that area, you see in red. You go a little farther north, were at 40mileanhour wind gusts plus that. That also includes essex county because you folks up there are actually under a wind advisory. So we are concerned with these strong winds. Now its not only the winds watching. Weral watching those winds combining and creating storm surge and potentially in coastal flooding as well as beach erosion because the tides right now are astronomically high as it is. You couple that with those strong winds and pushing and piling up the water. We have that coastal flood watch from the south shore to cape cod to nantucket in effect until 2 00 p. M. Tomorrow. What were looking for is the high tide coming at 11 00 p. M. Tonight as well as 11 00 a. M. Tomorrow. Is the greatest concern especially in plymouth, chatham and nantucket. So please be awaiver of that. Two hours before, two hours after. Now we do get rid of the snow pretty quickly tomorrow morning. Then well see some sunshine but how about the patriots . Theyre taking on the broncos in denver. Theyre actually going to be warmer in the 40s at kickoff. Lets go patsing. How about that . As we head towards monday and tuesday were going to turn milder. Were back into the mid 40s, maybe even near 50 degrees on tuesday so of course when you see showers on the forecast, they are going to be in the form of rain. Antoinette and doug. Antoinette danielle, thank you. Time right now is 8 21. Checking more top stories happening right now. Doug police are investigating a Deadly School shooting in western canada. Doug the mid Atlantic States are being pounded. Danielle and cindy standing by danielle we will back. Im meteorologist Danielle Vollmar. The snow is starting to fly especially in new york city back to jersey, philadelphia, d. C. And baltimore. Getting closer to us. Now get to go the south coast of connecticut where visibilities are starting to drop down especially there. About a mile even now on block island. Beginning to snow there. Not necessarily on the vineyard although it appears to be. The air is still too dry with visibles at 10 miles. As we go through the next 12 hours in boston notice these winds are going to pick up. The snow doesnt start flying until the afternoon in boston. It will be flying sooner for you folks the farther south you go. Because its flying sooner and continuing longer, youre going to have the highest impacts in terms of snowfall totals as well as the wind and even the potential for coastal flooding. When all is said and done, obviously boston is in about the twoinch band. North of it 02. 25 the farther south you go and then 510 inches in this deeper blue and obviously 10 inches plus in the dark blue along the south coast of connecticut. Doug and antoinette. Thats all im saying. Cover this morning. Weve been talking about this storm that has just been inching its way closer to our area. Cindy it goes from no snow, right, to all of a sudden it starts snowing. Dab jell will tell us how much south. There was a band that produced two or three inches of snow in an hour. So its intense to our south. It is just creeping north ward right now. You can see it on radar. North and west of the washington d. C. Area. York city. And that band is creeping toward us this morning. Eye on it here. It is continuing to kind of march in our direction so weve got winter storm warnings where you see the pink here. Thats coastal parts of south eastern new england but also we have a blizzard warning for Marthas Vineyard as the winds are also going to be a concern. Those are ramping up this afternoon. Theyll be strongest overnight. At that time coupled with the snow we could see visibility there. Also south of boston we have a Winter Weather advisory so southeastern massachusetts, you are going to feel the greatest impacts from this storm as it continues to creep north ward. Where is the snow right now . Youve got to look for the darker blues. Theyre along coastal parts of connecticut. You can see the visibility now running around a mile all the way over to block island so this is where the snow is reaching the ground. You get up to hartford its not. Visibility is at about 10 miles there. Its this dark blue line right here that is the real intense snow. Its trying to lift north ward it will be a slow process and a struggle to get that snow to come up on in here as we have High Pressure hanging on to our north. We time it out for you here. By noontime, the isnt really getting that much farther north. There may be sun in rhode island and also down on the islands. Closer to mid afternoon before it gets closer to boston. But by 6 00 this evening if you have plans, yes, there will be some snow around and during the overnight hours, that snow may for a while hang around north of boston but it all pivots pretty quickly off shore tomorrow morning so in terms of how much snow, heaviest amounts to the south where there could be 510 inches of snow. The amounts drop off very sharply north of there but the amounts really ramp up. Theyve been seeing a lot of it to our south right now. With more on that, well check in with danielle. Danielle thats right, cindy, they sure have especially the d. C. Baltimore Area where theyre expecting two feet of snow in a lot of spots. You can see this storm system continuing to snow very hard on the Nations Capital. Lets talk about how much snow weve seen so far. Philly seeing nine inches of snow and new york city picking up search inches of snow. Now between 6 00 and 7 00 this morning, snowfall rates were at 23 inches an hour there. That band is slowly going to work its way up to us. Also want to point out farther south because that snow extends all the way in to parts of virginia, kentucky, down to north carolina. You can see a lot of heavy snow totals down there. And we have winter storm warnings up and down the east coast. Blizzard warnings in the Nations Capital through new jersey and even into new york city. Were watching this storm system because this could produce recordbreaking snow totals in the Nations Capital. And in southeastern massachusetts away from the coast where the winds wont be quite as strong we do have a inter weather advisory. Lots to watch with this system which is still way down the coast to our south. It is still strengthening. Theyve had over a foot of snow around d. C. Still snowing around new york city the snow is coming down really hard. The winds are cranking as well. This is creeping north very slowly. This is the key to this. Everything is happening so slowly here. It looks like weve got the snow coming down here across much of connecticut but its not all reaching the ground. You want to note this dark blue color right here. This is a band of intense snow. And in this band, the snowfall rates are between about 13 inches per hour so it goes from no snow to all of a sudden the snow starts and it comes on pretty quickly but youve got to you can see the visibility is ten miles across a good portion of our state including hartford. Just south along the coast in connecticut is where the snow is coming down. Theres dry air in place right now. Dew points around 10, sing many digits. Then you will of a sudden you can see on the coastline the dew points are higher. Thats a function of the wind with High Pressure to our north. It is holding this dry air in place as this storm approaches. Thats the battle that is set up locally. You can see those winds are really coming in off the water now. So thats why weve moist ened massachusetts. Slow process by noontime. Snowing in connecticut, much of rhode island but only along the extreme south coast here in massachusetts. Its going to take until 3 00 before we really start to pivot that snow north ward towards the mass pike. Its this evening around 6 00 p. M. That it will start to dry and go noter ward here reaching up toward the north shore. If i keep my hand right here, we go about six hours. Thats about as far as it gets through midnight. It will start to retreat off shore as we go through the predawn hours and very quickly out through the overnight hours here. Most snow will be to the south. Once you go north because of that dry air were not going to see that much snow. Anywhere from just some flurries back to leominster to a couple of inches cape ann. Two inches boston to framingham into worcester. As you go south the amounts increase. Once you get marshfield back towards taunton youre in the fiveinch range coming down to 10 inches farther south. The problem with the winds come inning off the water, there might be mixing on the outer cape and nantucket. With those strong winds, maybe concerns with Power Outages in addition to the coastal flooding concerns and the beachy beach erosion. Lets talk more about those aspects as well. Danielle the winds are starting to gust especially on nantucket and block island. Wind gusts in excess of 37 miles an hour. So were start to go see the winds pick up as this storm gets closer to us. I want to show you that. You can see that on our local live radar. I do want to talk about what is actually happening right now. Now as we go forward into time pick up out of the north and east. This is about lunchtime. Were up to about 41 miles an hour on nantucket. 51mileanhour winds though on block iowa land. You go forward in time, say, about 6 00 at dinner time were talking 43mileperhour wind gusts in boston now. Up to that on nantucket and near 60mileperhour winds on block island. This continues through the overnight hours into first thing tomorrow and tomorrow morning those winds turn out in the north. We are watching that high tide as well. So we are looking for the potential with heavy, wet snow and gusty winds to about 50 Miles Per Hour for tree limbs to come down and the potential for Power Outages and that coastal flood watch is in effect for the south shore, cape cod, as well as nantucket as we watch those high tides. The big thing with these high tides is because its astronomically high right now, we have to watch this system. It gets to us. Were watching the high tide at 11 00 p. M. And 11 00 a. M. Tomorrow. Two hours before and two hours after. We could also see beachy rotion. Behind that though, well see sunshine monday warming up into the upper 30s. By tuesday were in the mid 40s. Doug. Doug the celtics hold off the bulls after a furious 4thquarter rally. The cs off to a quick start against the bulls. Avery bradley with a three; he had 21. Then its Isaiah Thomas with a three; he had 22. The celtics led by 11 after one and by 15 at the break. A nice hustle play here as jae crowder misses the shot but fights for the rebound. The ball is finally tipped over to kelly olynyk. The celtics beat the bulls, 110101.
