The lawsuit is raising questions tonight about the practice of handling Sexual Assault complaints internally. 9 on your sides jason law spoke to the Womens Crisis Center in Northern Kentucky about the lawsuit claims nku advised one of their students to not report a suspected Sexual Assault to police, and then failed to protect her from her suspected attacker. She was told to keep it in the system. Attorney kevin murphy says when his client reported a Sexual Assault to northern Kentucky University, she was told they should handle it internally. Internally. After staying in the system and being told, we can protect you, they [nku] didnt enforce what they promised. Murphy says nkus investigation found it was more probable than not that she [the victim] was telling the truth. Then murphy says the administration slapped the suspected attacker on the wrist. Absolutely failed her. [nku] failed her miserably. Marsha croxton is the executive director of the Womens Crisis Center in hebron. She says federal laws, like title ix and the violence against women act have caused colleges across the country to change their way of thinking. Thinking. I do believe universities crime on campus because theyre afraid parents wouldnt send their children. Croxton says no victim is required to go to the police. They can choose to tell the police or they can choose think about it, and maybe theyre never going to say anything, because its the victims choice. The university denies these allegations.
