A fire at Newark International airport. Passengers were ordered outside. Janelle burrell joins us live from the airport with more. Janelle . Reporter mary and chris, the fire is out, but according to Port Authority police, there are smoky conditions outside. You can see above us, by the departure terminal, you can see the fire trucks. They are there on stand by in case any additional flareups happen this morning. The fire started around 1 15 a. M. In the ceiling of terminal b. One flight was scheduled to depart. 200 passengers were evacuated from the terminal while firefighters put out the flames. They thought the fire was out, allowed passengers back inside. The terminal was then re evacuated. Cbs producer nick fineman was getting ready to board the airline to hong kong this out. He was among those evacuated. We were all evacuated to just outside the terminal. We were told it would be 15 minutes and we could come back in, then we smelled smoke and you could see it. Then on 10 fire trucks showed up. Theyre now evacuating everyone away from the building. Reporter at this point, its not clear whether the flight has taken off. Fire trucks still here on stand by in case another flareup occurs. Thousands of people in the tri state area affected by the 60 mileanhour wind gusts that ripped trees out of the ground and toppled power lines. I woke up to a big crash and my house shook a little bit. It was crazy. Windows were shattered. Gutters ripped off. Roof, waters in the attic. Firefighters are having trouble containing the fire because of possibly whats inside. If you take a look, firefighters are taking an aerial approach to putting this fire out. When they were called in initially at around 10 45 yesterday evening, crews entered the warehouse from the ground floor but had to be pulled out because of severe structural damage to the warehouse. Theyre utilizing ladders now to get to the fire from above. We heard from the fire chief. Some sort of cold storage, a lot of refrigerators and restaurant supplies. We assume there are cooking oils in there. Its really burning. Reporter and back here live, the fire is continuing to pop up in pockets, giving firefighters trouble here, but the fire chief does say the fire has been contained. It did not spread to another building or another business, i should say, thats connected in this building or a church that is next door. Apparently no one called in, saying that they were inside the building at that time. Theyre trying to figure out if anyone was inside this warehouse at the time, but they do say one firefighter was treated for minor injuries and smoke inhalation. Amtrak service is back on the northeast corridor this morning after a deadly Train Derailment in pennsylvania. Public philadelphia when a train collided. Hazel sanchez has more. Reporter the train going from new york to savannah, georgia was 15 minutes outside of philadelphia when it crashed into an amtrak Maintenance Crew on the track. I woke up to being thrown into the seat in front matter of fact and the window got blown out beside me. You could see the dirt and debris flying past the train and a couple of sort of like fire flashes. Reporter it was just before 8 00 sunday morning when the train slammed into a backhoe, derailing. The bucket left in the middle of the tracks. Other piecest thrown several feet away. This picture shows the inside of one car was a mangled mess. We got off track, then it was an explosion, some people were cut up. Reporter emergency crews we now have our second doa located at the impact site of the backhoe. Reporter two amtrak workers, one operating the backhoe, the other supervising nearby, were killed. 341 people were on the train. 35 were injured and hospitalized, but are expected to be okay. Amtrak declined to comment why the Maintenance Equipment was on the active track. The National Transportation safety board says its looking at several factors, including scheduling, to determine if the accident was caused by human error. The flames so intense, they spread to one shelter workers car parked behind the building on north Willow Street in downtown montclair. It could have been deadly. In the middle of the night, it would have been gone. All the animals would have died. Reporter 70 cats and dogs were saved. The volunteers all just lined up and like a traveling line starting pulling animal after animal. Every single anle got out. All 70 pets have been placed in foster homes and other shelters. Janelle burrell joins us live from the airport with more. Janelle . Reporter well, mary, Port Authority police tell us that the fire is out, but as a precaution, you can see on the ground level here, a number of passengers are standing outside. Their flights are delayed. If you look up above at the departure terminal, there are a number of fire trucks that are still on stand by in case additional flareups occur here this morning. The fire started around 1 15 a. M. In the ceiling of the boiler room here at terminal b. There was one flight at the time scheduled to depart for hong kong, about 200 passengers were supposed to get on to that flight. This were evacuated while firefighters put out the flames. Firefighters thought they got it out. They let passengers back in, then there was a flareup and they had to reevacuate the terminal. We spoke just a few minutes ago just arriving here this morning who found out their flights are now delayed, as well. I couldnt find a bus. I wound up walking here, then found out theres a fire in the terminal and all flights are being delayed. And so at this point, what have they told you do . They evacuated us back outside. No other communication other than just step outside. Reporter now, that man is one of several that weve seen outside here at terminal b at this hour, waiting for word as to whether hell be able to board that flight later this morning. Other passengers, were told, were taken to a nearby hotel, also awaiting the status of their flights. Right now, there are still fire trucks here at the scene on stand by in case there are any flareups this morning. A number of flights are delayed. Magdalena doris is live in Prospect Lefferts Gardens with more. Reporter good morning. Building is a total loss and the fdny is continuing to put out hot spots inside of this warehouse. The fire broke out around 10 45 10 45 last night. It climbed to five alarms, 200 firefighters responded on the scene here. Initially, the firefighters entered the building on the ground floor to fight the flames, but because the fire was so strong, they were eventually pulled out and they had to use the tower ladders to spray water from outside, from the aerial down onto the roof there. The building is on park side avenue near rogers avenue in the process correct lefferts gardens section of brooklyn and it houses a cold storage business. That may have been what was inside of this building, the chief of Department Tells us that caused this fire to keep on being fueled. Store story some sort of cold storage. A lot of refrigerators and restaurant supplies. We assume theres cooking oils its really burning. Reporter and the chief of Department Tells us this fire has been contained. We did just see one civilian being taken out on a stretcher. They were conscious and receiving oxygen. It looks like now some of the fire crews are continuing to move out of the area, which is a good sign. Again, the fire chief says this is contained. One forward was treated for minor injuries and smoke inhalation here at live at Prospect Lefferts Gardens section of brooklyn, magdalena doris, cbs 2 news. Amtrak trains are running again along the northeast corridor following yesterdays deadly derailment. It happened south of philadelphia, with a train heading from manhattan to georgia, collided with a piece of construction equipment. Two amtrak workers were killed and more than 30 passengers injured. Don champion is in chester, pennsylvania with more for us this morning. Don, good morning. Reporter good morning, chris. Overnight, we did see crews in and around that derailment site behind me. Centers around figuring out why those two construction workers who were killed were on the track when the train came through. Federal investigators continue to examine the heavilydamaged front end of amtrak train 89 overnight as they piece together what led to sundays deadly accident. We will be looking at mechanical, operations, signal, track, Human Performance, and survival factors. Reporter the train was going from new york city to savannah, georgia yesterday morning when it slammed into a backhoe south of philadelphia, killing the backhoe operator and a supervisor. Photos show heavy damage and blownout wind yoxz in the first car of the train. You can see a lot of dirt and debris flying past the train, then a couple of sort of like fire flashes. I called my Church Members and asked them to pray. Reporter among other things, investigators want to know why the heavy piece of equipment was even on the sometimes theres human error, sometimes things happen, but there is virtually no excuse for a backhoe to be on an active track. Reporter sundays accident comes less than a year after the derailment of amtrak train 188 in philadelphia, which killed eight people. As part of the investigation, video from the train and the trains data recorder are being reviewed. And at last check, three people who were on the train and were hurt were still in the hospital. Thank you, don. Police released videos and photos of a suspect wanted in a forcible touching incident in queens yesterday. It happened around 8 40 sunday morning near 44th street and 25th avenue in astoria. The suspect allegedly followed a 76yearold woman into her apartment buildings vestibule she yelled and the suspect ran off. New information this morning on the driver of a evacuation of times square saturday night. Police say 28yearold ryan fraiser was given 10 summonses after officers spotted his truck with the keys in the ignition on 46th street. There were two gas cans and loose electrical wires in the front seat. Hes due back in court in june. Cold weather could jeopardize opening day for the new york yankees. It appears theyre starting to let flights leave here at this what it looked like a short time ago here inside of terminal b. Passengers taking fretz inside of the terminal where you can see smoke pouring out. This happened around 1 15 this morning. According to officials, inside of the ceiling of the boiler room here at terminal b. There was one flight scheduled to depart so about 200 passengers were originally evacuated from the terminal as firefighters put out the flames. They thought that the fire was out, but then not too long after they allowed passengers back in, the fire reignited, flaring up again. They had to rejacket the terminal here this morning, but, again, all passengers, it appears, have been allowed back inside. We spoke moments ago with one of those passengers who was affected. The fire is out, and theyll allowed passengers back inside of terminal b, but there are plenty of delays for a lot of lets show you video of why of what it looked like a short time ago. You could see the smoke pouring out of terminal b here earlier. The fire started around 1 15 this morning, inside the ceiling of the boiler room inside of terminal b. One flight was scheduled to depart from the airport then, so 200 passengers were evacuated from the terminal while firefighters put out the flames. Crews thought the fire was out, allowed passengers back inside, but then the fire reignited and they had to reevacuate the terminal again this morning. At this time, passengers have been allowed back inside. We spoke with one of those people affected just a short time ago. Take a listen. Couldnt find a bus, i wound up walking here, then to find out theres a fire in the tern neal and all flights terminal and all flights are delayed. They evacuated you . I want to take you to video. One civilian was taken out on a stretcher this morning. They were conscious and receiving oxygen. One firefighter was also injured fighting the fire and treated for smoke inhalation. The fire was called in around 10 45 last night and climbed up to 5 alarms. 200 firefighters coming to the scene, responding. Initially, firefighters entered the building from the ground floor here, but the fire was too severe. They had to be pushed back and started to use this tower they were dousing the roof here from above. The building is on park side avenue near rogers avenue and it houses a cold storage business, a food prep area inside. Its also been destroyed because of this fire. These last 24 hours have been busy for the fdny to say the very least. This is the second fifth alarm weve had today. We had a fifth alarm earlier in queens in a similar type of building, not that theyre relating at all, but two commercial building fires. Its unusual to have two fifth alarm fires in one day. Reporter the chief of the Department Says the fire has been contained. It did not spread to a neighboring business or church, but the cause will be under investigation later on today. A man allegedly driving drunk is charged with a deadly crash last night. Arrested, 23yearold kyle glinka of bohemia. Police say the car slammed into a pickup truck on ocean avenue. A 67yearold man and his 66 yearold wife was killed. He was treated for life threatening injuries. A community is coming told after a fire tore through an Animal Shelter in new jersey, destroying the building and displacing pets. Pouring out of the shelter. The fire raged with 70 dogs and cats inside. Volunteers were already at the shelter to walk the dogs and care for the cats. The volunteers all just lined up and like a traveling line, just starting pulling animal after animal. All the animals got out. All the pets have been placed in foster homes or other shelters. No word on what started the fire, but there are plans to rebuild with a fundraiser set for sunday.
