I spoke with a resident off camera who told me he lives inside this building and he woke up to his windows breaking and the flames pouring inside. He was able to make it out okay. I spoke with her friend who lives nearby and she describes what she saw and heard. I just heard a massive explosion. I dont know if it was a bomb. Massive flames coming from the building and tons of fire trucks. Reporter now, again we can tell you so far that one firefighter did have some injuries. Reporter David Dennisons backyard shed is shredded, wrapped around a pole. His neighborhood outside of dallas was one of the hardest hit by a swarm of tornadoes. We ran inside of the bathroom and then we heard crash and glass. Reporter the occasional Lightning Strike illuminated the twisters that started touching down around 6 30. Six people died, including several that were in their cars when it passed an interstate. The path of destruction stretches for 40 miles and 600 structures are damaged or destroyed. Weather forecasters say two tornadoes clocked speeds of up to 200 Miles Per Hour, tossing mobile homes like toys and flattening entire streets. The governor of texas says the situation is still volatile across the northern part of the state that simultaneously is experiencing snow and ice conditions and torrential rain. Vigilant. Reporter local officials in a town outside of dallas sent out alerts before the tornadoes cover. At this early stage of the recovery, authorities warn the number of victims may soon omar, cbs news, texas. Four texas counties are now under a state of emergency. A jersey father is calling after his young child was shot in jersey city. Reporter the baby was shot in the face and had a bullet removed from his cheek here at the jersey city medical center. Meanwhile, his outraged father wants something done now on what he calls the out of streets here. Now. Reporter a passionate plea from the father whose 18 month old son was hit in the face by a stray bullet on saturday afternoon. I heard five or six shots. It sounded like a bomb went off or something. Just like massive flames coming out of the building. And then tons of fire trucks. Reporter more than 100 homes in the garland area were reduced to rubble on saturday when an ef4 tornado packing winds up to 200 Miles Per Hour tore through the area. Life. A 24hour curfew remains in effect where an ef3 tornado also caused extensive damage. On sunday, authorities evacuated residents near this damaged water tower out of fears of flooding. The unusual weather pattern is blanketing parts of the texas panhandle, oklahoma and new mexico with heavy snow. Whiteout conditions and massive snow drifts led officials to shut down nearly all of interstate 40 as millions of travelers were making their way home following the christmas holiday. Reporter well, diane and alex, firefighters at the scene tell us that the person who died was found in a second floor front bedroom. Right now you can see crews are still here on the scene. What theyre trying doing is trying to go through all three floors of the Apartment Building to locate the person still unaccounted for at this hour. Richardson street in williamsburg. The cell phone video shows the massive flames pouring through the windows here. The chief says it took 200 firefighters and hours to get the fire under control. Upon arrival, we had a fire on the first, second and third floors of the building. And another building behind the Apartment Building. So we had heavy fire conditions throughout. Reporter crews are right now wrapping up their equipment. The fire part of this operation is over right now. They are still trying to locate that second person who is unaccounted for inside a building here. Ten people are displaced. One firefighter is suffering minor injuries. He describes for me hearing his window break and then smoke and flames quickly pouring in. He was lucky enough to get out on time. It was not the case for one of his neighbors. He was found in a second floor front bedroom early this morning. The chief tells us at this time that they are still working to find that second person unaccounted for at this hour. Now, we have cell phone video that shows the mass i can flames pouring out of the windows here on richardson street. The fire starting around 1 30 this morning. It is a three Story Building with six units were told by people who live there. The chief telling us that it took about 200 firefighters three and a half hours to get this under control. We spoke with one of the neighbors who lives nearby. She describes what she heard minutes before firefighters arrived here on scene. Explosion. I dont know if it was a bomb. It sounded like a bomb went off or something. Massive flames coming out of the building. Ask then tons of fire trucks. Found dead. Unaccounted for. Back live you can see firefighters still putting time. Theyre still looking for that person who they believe is inside of the debris there. One firefighter did suffer some minor injuries. The victim is one and a half years old and could be released from the hospital later on this afternoon. We had the chance to speak with his father. He was actually with the child when he was shot. As you can imagine, he is outraged. I heard about four shots or five shots. Reporter michelle describes the sound of gunfire seconds before his one and a halfyear old son was shot in the face in jersey city. A stray bullet ended up lodged in his cheek. This picture shows what he looked like just before emergency surgery to remove it. He could be out of the hospital as soon as today. The shooting happened at 2 30 in the afternoon. He was sitting in the car waiting for the mother at the post office when the gunman opened fire. Outside of the home where police shot and killed the 19 yearold and his neighbor on saturday. Police say they were responding to a domestic disturbance and he was carrying a bat and acting combative. Betty jones was killed as well who lives in the same building. Greers mother says that this needs to stop. What happens to he was turning away. He was turning away. But i have to be there. It needs to stop. Chicago mayor emanuel is calling on the Police Department to review crisis intervention training. Well, new this morning, three people were injured after two cars collided on the east side last night. It happened at 9th and park avenue around 10 30. If theres a Silver Lining we learned that residents in this area received several alerts just minutes before the tornado hit, warning them to take cover. As rescue crews in north texas sift through the debris, people still unaccounted for. What they have left following the tornadoes. Compared to our neighbors, i mean, i think we got pretty lucky. The house is still standing. The walls are standing. Reporter more than 100 homes in the garland area were reduced to rubble when tornadoes packing winds up to the area. 61yearold wheatley says it life. Stayed in my closet all night long. Remains in effect. On sunday authorities evacuated residents near this damaged water tower out of fears of flooding. At this point we have had an engineer familiar with that particular water tower assess it. Based on the damage that he saw, he was concerned enough to ask us to drain the water tower. Reporter the unusual weather pattern is now blanketing parts of the texas mexico with heavy snow. Whiteout conditions and massive snow drifts led officials to shut down nearly all of interstate 40. Millions of travelers were making their way home following the christmas holiday. Forecasters expect up to 15 inches of snow in some areas before the system moves on to the northeast. One of the only noises you hear in the neighborhood here are just the beeping of smoke alarms and home alarms. Theres no power in the area. Its not expected to be back on for days. Reporter good morning to you alex and diane. At this point firefighters calling this a recovery operation. They have been out here for about five hours now. And we have chopper 2 over the scene where you can see those ladders extended into 30 richardson here as they try to locate that second person still unaccounted for at this hour. They tell us though that one person was found dead in a second floor front bedroom. We have video that shows how large the flames became, pouring out of the windows here on richardson street shortly after the fire started around 1 30 this morning. This is a threeStory Building. Some of the neighbors who live nearby describe hearing a large became engulfed. Explosion. I dont know if it was a bomb. Off. Massive flames coming out of the building. And then the fire trucks. Upon arrival we had very heavy fire on the second and third floor of the building. We had heavy fire conditions throughout. Reporter and the chief went on to tell us that it took about 200 firefighters three and a half hours to get the fire under control. The boy has been here at the hospital recovering since saturday and could be released later this afternoon. I heard about four shots or five shots. Reporter michelle describes the sound of gunfire seconds before his one and a halfyear old got shot in the face in new jersey. A stray bullet ended up lodged in his cheek. This picture shows what he looked like just before emergency surgery to remove it. He could be out of the hospital as soon as today. The shooting happened at 2 30 saturday afternoon at the corner of harrison avenue. Michelle shea was signature in his car with the two children waiting for the mother in the post office. Investigators admit she was accidentally struck. She didnt do nothing. All she did was open the door.
