Pack of his car here at madison avenue and east 80th street when another car hit him. Police say the car with two people inside initially drove off but cops tracked them down on the Upper West Side, on west 71st street. They say the victim was taken to the hospital with leg trauma but is expected to survive. As for the two people in the car that hit him, theyre two men in their 30s and they are now in custody and police say charges are pending. Reporting on the upper east side, andrea grymes, cbs 2 news. A commuter alert. The jersey turnpike just re opened moments ago following yesterdays fiery accident. Police say debris on the roadway led to the a crash and theres new video of the moment of impact. This is video taken yesterday afternoon. Mattresses fell on to the turnpike. And an suv swerved and hit the tanker which slammed into the guardrail and exploded. And another drive shot cellphone video and felt the intense heat. As we pulled up, i opened the sunroof and put my hands tot take the video and the heat was like putting your hand in an oven. And im 3. 5 lanes on the other side of the barrier. And it was extremely hot even from that distance. The truck driver was killed. The flames so intense his body was not recovered for hours. They were found unconscious last night in a multifamily home on lincoln street and died at the hospital. The air in the home tested negative for Carbon Monoxide. The Prosecutors Office is calling the deaths suspicious. And we will have more in the next half hour. A retired nypd transit officer has been charged with murder in the death of his wife on long island. The 49yearold vanished aafter the body of his wife was found last week in the couples home in lake grove. State police say they found him tuesday near the trail in duchess county. Investigators say he was taken into custody after he injured himself on the wrist and throat and threatened officers. Police are searching for a woman who tried to kidnap a teenage girl in connecticut. She was lure interested a car but jumped out as the car was moving. It was all caught on camera. My goodness. Where was this . Right here on boston avenue. Oh, my god. Reporter the video shocking many who see it. A 17yearold girl walking to school, lured into a car, only to jump out to safety while its still moving. Im still thinking, if you dont know who is driving, why would you get it in it . Described as a hispanic woman in her 40s, freckles on the face, hair in a ponytail and wearing a black leather jacket. There is a Catholic School there. Theres a high school there. Reporter this mother upset alone where children gather. It bothers me. I dont let my girls go anywhere alone really. Reporter police say the car made a uturn and drove east after the girl jumped to safety. The toyota has a distinctive feature, its missing the rear bumper, exposing the material underneath. Police say the teenager was shaken up but not seriously injured. And they are asking for help finding the driver. In connecticut, cbs 2 news. A Violent Arrest inside a store is starting controversy. Video from sunset park shows a man accused of stealing an emts cellphone. And later the emt and two nypd officers walk in. And the suspect is surrounded and you can see, force is used to get him to the ground. People in the neighborhood say it was uncalled for. Its appalling. Its disrespectful. You know, everybody is entitled to due process. If he did commit the crime and he didnt reexist hes being and hes being placed under arrest, that wasnt necessary. The suspect faces charges. The incident is being reviewed by nypd internal affairs. Happening today, Police Commissioner bratton and mayor de blasio will address use of force issues following the swearing in of 750 new Police Officers in queens. And queens. Blake was tackled in front of a hotel during a stolen credit card investigation. Yesterday the review board told blake they believe the officer did the use Excessive Force and should be disciplined along with the officer who ordered the arrest. Very gratified by it. And looks forward to the trial of this matter. Hes anxious to appear as a witness and to confront the individual who confronted him on september 9th. The nypd says its aware of the boards findings. Happening today, a candle light vigil will be held for a man missing at sea. Friends and family are gathering in East Rockaway tonight on what would have been his 51st birthday. He is a East Rockaway high school graduate. He is among 33 people miss prosecuting a u. S. Cargo ship that sank last week during hurricane joaquin. The vigil is being held at 7 30 on main street on the water front. The u. S. Coast guard has ended the intense search for the crew of el faro. The search was called off last night at 7 00. A policeinvolved shooting in brooklyn. Andrea grymes is live from the scene with the very latest. Reporter well, chris and mary, the nypd this morning searching for two out of three suspects wanted in this Police Involved shooting. It happened here at park and North Portland avenues in fort greene. Its a large crime scene this morning. This happened around 10 45 last night and police still on the scene here. They say three plainclothes officers were in an unmarked car when they observed three males in a dispute. They turned to see what was going on and investigators say thats when at least two of the suspects started shooting at police. The cops started shooting back and say the suspects then fled. The nypd says they found a 45 caliber gun under a nearby car. And one suspect ended up at the the hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg. He is now in custody were told. The two others are still on the run. And as for the Police Officers involved, were told they were treated at the hospital for ringing in their ears. But this morning, two out of the three suspects still on the loose. Reporting live this morning in fort greene brooklyn, andrea grymes, cbs 2 news. An Investigation Underway into the deaths of a mother and her 5yearold son. The Hudson County Prosecutors Office calls the death suspicious. Janelle burrell is live if jersey city with more. Reporter yeah, good morning to you chris and mary. It happened in this home here on the other side of the shrubs behind me. A woman in her 20s and her 5 yearold son found unconscious. Emergency responders responded here around 6 30 last night. And by the time they rushed both to the hospital, they were soon after pronounced dead. This is here on lincoln street between summit and central avenues in jersey city. Were told by investigators that air quality tests were taken inside of the home here, the second floor apartment where the bodies were found. And according to report, Carbon Monoxide was not dethe tacketted. At this point, prosecutor not detected. At this point, prosecutors only saying that this is suspicious. Police make two arrest following a hitandrun accident on the upper seaside. They say after 2 00 this morning upper east side. They say after 2 00 this morning, a car slammed into a 62yearold man. The vehicle initially drove off but was stopped on the west side. The victim suffered a leg injury. And charges are pending against the two men who fled. New video in connection with a murder of a queens man who was shot and killed while sitting inside a car. Police released video of a man getting out of a uhaul van with what appears to be a gun. He died after being shot in the head and neck. No arrests have been made this case. A second suspect is under arrest in the murder of a 70 yearold queens woman in march. She was shot in the head as she opened the door of her home in south jamaica. A 19yearold is now charged in the case. Another man was arrested in april. Police say the shooting may be connected to webs son who is serving a 25 year sentence for manslaughter. Police in the hamptons say the man who allegedly struck and killed a beloved chef and author may have tampered with the pump. Police say the driver disabled his dwi interlock device thats supposed to prevent drunk people from driving. Guilty. She works more than 40 hours a week but cant afford an apartment, even in the billings that boast affordable housing. Thats not low income to me. I cant afford that. Low income for me is 600, 700 because i still got to eat. Reporter city officials stress landlords cannot discriminate based on income but landlords defend their reluctance to rent based on the city vouchers. Landlords got burned with the sudden cancellation of another program in 2011. And now saying the abrupt ending to the Advantage Program left formerly homeless tenants with the inability to pay rent that the city agreed to pay and owners without recourse to recoup the rent. The Homeless People say they need another chance. I want a home. I want to consider it being home. And in the shelter, its not. Theres no peace. Mayor de blasio has signed new legislation that he hopes will significantly ill pact the citys pow significantly impact the citys power grid businesses will be required to shut doors during the hot summer days while air conditioners are running. Thats wasting a lot of energy. Thats having its own impact on global warming. So we need to start thinking smarter and being more careful about how we use energy. And this bill is a great common sense measure. The measure is an expansion of an earlier law. The new legislation became law yesterday but fines will not be issued until july 1st. A major health scare in new jersey. A nurse used the same syringe to give dozens of shots to several people. 67 employees were vaccinated using the same syringes but not the same needles. Experts at the cdc say the risk of infection is low but they recommend workers get tested for hepatitis and hiv. Breaking news, a Police Involved shooting in fort greene, brooklyn. Andrea grymes is live from the scene. Reporter mary, police say first. It is still an active scene here in fort greene. Stretches for several blocks here at park avenue and North Portland avenue in fort greene. And they are searching, police are, for out of the three suspects this morning. This all happened around 10 45 last night. Police say three plain clothed officers observed three males in a dispute. They turned to see what was going on and investigators say thats when at least two of the suspects started shooting at police. The cops started shooting back and say the suspects then fled. The nypd says they found a 45 caliber gun under a nearby car. And one suspect they tell us ended up at the hospital with a that suspect is now in custody. The two others are still on the run. The three Police Officers involved in this were treated for ringing in their ears. But again, two suspects on the loose this morning. Police say debris on the roadway led to the accident. This is dash cam video taken yesterday afternoon, mattresses being carried by a van fell on to the turnpike. An suv swerved and hit the tanker and turned over and exploded. And now another driver shot cellphone video and felt the intense heat as he passed by. As we pulled up, i opened the sunroof and put my hands out to take the video and the heat was like putting your hands in the ordinary reason. And i am three and a half lanes on the other side of the barrier. And it was extremely hot even from that distance. The the truck driver was killed. The flames were so intense, his body was not recovered for hours after the crash. A developing story in jersey city, police are investigating the mysterious deaths of a woman in her 20s and her 5yearold son. They were found unconscious last night. And Janelle Burrell is live in jersey city with more for us this morning. Reporter chris, this morning, prosecutors, investigators trying to figure out what happened in the moments leading up to that mother and son being found inside of their apartment which is here just on the other side of the shrubs. They were found around 6 30 last night. The mother in her 20s and her son just five years old and found unconscious inside their second floor apartment here on lincoln street between summit and central avenues. Emergency responders rushed both of them to Christ Hospital where doctors say they died a short time later. Now we do know that air quality tests were taken inside of their apartment and according to reports so far, no indication that any carbon prosecutors again only saying at this point that their deaths are being ruled suspicious as they continue this investigation. Police make two arrests following a hitandrun accident on the upper east side. They say a little after 2 00 this morning, a 62yearold man was unloading packages from his car on madison avenue and east 80th when a car slammed into him. The vehicle initially drove off but was stopped on the Upper West Side on westend avenue. Charges are pending against the two men who fled. Police are certaining for a woman who tried to kidnap a teenage girl in connecticut. The girl was lured into the car but jumped out as the car was moving. It was all caught on video. My goodness. A 17yearold girl walking to school, lured into a car only to jump out to safety while its still moving. Im still thinking, if you dont know who is driving, why would you get in it . Police say this happened around 10 45 last night when three plain clothed officers were in an unmarked car when they observed three men in a dispute. Investigators say at least two of the three suspects started shooting at the police. The cops started shooting back and say the suspects then ran from the scene. The nypd says they found a 45 caliber gun under a nearby car. One of those suspects, a 23 yearold man ended up at the hospital. Police say with a gunshot wound to the leg. He is now in custody, charges against him are pending. Two others are still on the run. And as for the two Police Officers and the lieutenant, they were treated for ringing in their ears. Happening today, Police Commissioner bratton and mayor de blasio will address use of force issues following the swearing in of 750 new Police Officers at a ceremony in queens. And they may address the findings by the review board regarding last months arrest of former tennis star james blake. Blake was tackled in front of a hotel during a credit card investigation. And yesterday the board told blake they believe the officer did use Excessive Force and should be disciplined along with the officer who ordered the arrest. He is gratified by it and looks forward to the trial of this matter. He is anxious to appear as a witness and to confront the individual who confronted him o nth. On september 9th. A developing story in jersey city. An investigation under way into the deaths of a mother and her 5yearold son. The Hudson County Prosecutors Office calls their deaths suspicious. The mother in her 20s and her 5 yearold son were rushed to Christ Hospital where both died a short time later. And we spoke with neighbors here this morning and they say not many people were familiar with the family but they describe the scene for us here last night. I see a lot of police and a lot of people looking. And theyre talking about somebody die over there. I feel bad because i live over here and i never see that in this block. Reporter now were told that air quality tests were taken inside of that second floor apartment where the family lived. According to reports, Carbon Monoxide was not detected. At this point, prosecutors will only say that the deaths are being ruled suspicious. The names of that mother and her 5yearold son so far have not been released. New video caught the moment when a truck hit the guardrail and burst into flames. According to state police, debris on the roadway led to the deadly accident. This is dash cam video taken yesterday afternoon, mattresses being carried by a van fell on to the turnpike and an suv swerved and hit the tanker which slammed into the guardrail and burst into flames. Another driver shot cellphone video and felt the intense heat. As we pulled up, i opened the sunroof and put my hands out of the sunroof to take that video and the heat was like putting your hands in an oven. And im three and a half lanes away from you know, on the other side of the barrier. And it was extremely hot even from that distance. The truck driver was killed. The flames so intense, his body was not recovered for hours. Police have two people in custody following a hitandrun accident on the upper east side. They say a 62yearold man was unloading packages on madison avenue and east 80th street when a car slammed into him. The vehicle initially drove off but was stopped on the west side. The victim suffered a leg injury. Charges are pending against the two men who fled the scene. A retired nypd transit officer is charged with murder in the death of his wife on long island. The 49yearold vanished after the body of his wife, a 42year old, was found last week in the couples home in lake grove. Police say they found him tuesday in duchess county. Investigators say he was taken into custody after he injured himself on his wrist and throat and threatened officers.
