Reporter this morning Hurricane Patricia has weakened to the a category one so theres less damage than expected but theres a lot of flooding and land slides and its been a frightening experience for new yorkers trapped in mexico. Patricia roared onshore in southwest mexico last night as a category five hurricane moving near Puerto Vallarta with estimated winds of 165 miles per hour. On their smart phones as the storm pushed trees sideways and blue up fences. We have been in and blew up fences. We have been in Puerto Vallarta about 24 hours or so. Reporter he is vacationing there with 22 friends. We are very comfortable being way above ground in our current location. The areas that were the lower down earlier today, they evacuated. Reporter dozens of evacuees now finding reserve list finding refuge at red cross shelters. They said its not a safe place so we are going to the technical center. Near waco, part of Interstate Park one of interstate 35, one of the nations busiest highway, rain flooded the roadway. There goes a mobile home. Gone. It toppled trees in its path and knocked out power to as many as 20,000 residents. A Lightning Strike sparked this house fire. The four people inside managed to get out safely. And this morning we are getting reports that some parts of texas are dealing with more than 20 inches of rainfall. An Investigation Underway in Nassau County after a car crash on the Southern State parkway sent several people to it happened around 11 00 last night near exit 28. A result. Still no word on the condition of those injured. A raging fire destroyed a historic new jersey synagogue. The flames moved quickly and left little behind. Reporter it was the care taker of this historic synagogue who september out the call for help. Who sent out the call for help. He heard a banging and then the building filled with smoke. We didnt see any fire until we ventilated the second third floor windows and then we had heavy fire through the roof. Reporter within minute, the the entire structure was devoured by flames. This viewer captured the flames just before the roof collapsed. The synagogue was founded in 1901. He says luckily no services were scheduled. Beautiful building and its now all gone. Reporter most sacred, the several scrolls burned in the blaze. One was saved when the rabbi pointed a female firefighter to one and she rushed in to rescue it. Significant, yeah. And now an update on Hurricane Patricia, its been downgraded but still a force to be reckoned with. Watch across texas, just a persistent flow of wet weather across the middle section of the state. And theyll be dealing with intense flooding. Remember the situation in South Carolina not long ago . The extensive flooding there. Not saying its going to be as will be an issue for them today. And even over the next couple days as patricia makes its way off in the northeasterly direction. And right now, moving north, northeast at 21 miles per hour. Its weakening very quickly. And winds right now sustained at 75 miles per hour. And the next update is at 8 00 a. M. And expect it to have weakened more significantly. It will likely be a Tropical Storm. But they carry a lot of moisture. So very much a concern as the storm continues to make its way overland. For us here at home, no immediate concerns from patricia but it will impact the midweek forecast. Right now with rain. For this weekend, that onshore flow will thicken the cloud cover and watch here. Police continue to search for answers as they investigate the murder of nypd officer and now investigators want to question three men seen on video. Investigators want to know about a shootout that happened minutes before the officer was killed. The alleged shooter Tyrone Howard was shot and wounded by the slain officers partner. Its the marquee costume contest many the country. Some of the most original, creative and hilarious costumes will be on display today. Awesome. And steven, you emcee the event yes, in this suit. And youre also in costume. Or thats how you woke up . This is normal for me. Its the Worlds Largest dog costume contest. How does the contest work and what does the winner get . The winner wins broadway tickets to shows for the owner or the dog. The dog. Usually just, you know, dog the musical. Like lots of dog musicals. Theres a couple. Cats is one. Okay. So there will be broadway show tickets. I believe an am watch. Yeah, visa gift cards. Big prizes in there. And the costumes are amazing. You have to check them out. They are the best in the country.
