The president spoke about the shooting in san bernandino, the war on isis, the political feud over gun control, and how congress should act. Valerie castro is here with the reaction to the rare address. Reporter cindy, the president laid out his plan to fight isis, both abroad and he urged congress to keep weapons out of the hands much terrorists, and to continue to support air strikes overseas. The president condemned the attack in san bernandino that killed 14 people. This was an act of terrorism. Reporter the commander in chief, saying the threat is real, vowing to fight isis and other terror groups. We cannot turn against one another by letting this fight be fought reporter obama called for congress to continue to authorize air strikes, but in a just released cnn orc poll, the majority of americans, 53 say the u. S. Should send ground crews to iraq and syria to fight isis. Critics have blasted the president. Here at home, obama focused on gun control. He wants to make it harder for and called for a close in the socalled terror gap. When congress should make sure no one on a no fly list is able to buy a gun. What could possibly be the argument for allowing a terror suspect to buy a semi automatic weapon. Reporter manny gomez agrees with the crackdown on terror suspects, but says obamas battle against assault rifles will fail. Hes tried that before. Obviously, the common d enominator here are assault rifles overall. I applaud him for trying again. Is it going to be successful . It wasnt successful after newtown, connecticut a few years ago. Reporter obama also ordered to take a closer look at visa the president misspoke and said visa waiver program. About the shooters in the san bernandino massacre. The fbi raided a home yesterday in riverside, california, that belongs to a friend of syed farook. Police believe the friend bought two assault rifles used in the attack. He checked himself into a Psychiatric Hospital shortly after the shooting. Tonight, a former classmate of farook is talking about the man he knew. He was passionate about his religion. Syed didnt want to be in the United States. He told me him paying taxes was helping the United States support basically the war on islam. He was very secretive about his wife. Farooks father also spoke to an italian newspaper telling them his son shared the idealology of isis in creating an islamic state. Were following breaking jumped a curb, hitting and killing a woman on a sidewalk. The 30yearold woman was walking along portland and fulton streets. A 30yearold man was also struck and is in critical condition. Three other men also have minor injuries. He was charged with driving without a license. It is unclear why the driver lost control. New information tonight in a string of arson attacks in queens. An overnight fire in forest hills marks the seventh in repeat weeks, leaving residents on edge. Investigators collected a new clue today. I saw flames and first i heard the fire trucks and i saw engine 305. I was like oh, no, not another one. Reporter his worst fears were realized early sunday morning. Fire filled the night sky again. The flames could be seen from several blocks away. He says the display is in honor of his mother who died. She loved the holidays. Especially christmas, we thought we would roll with the fact that we would expand the display in memory of her. So every year, we just progressed on and on and we made more lights and more lights until it got to Something Like this. Half goes to the american heart association. Temperatures. 39 in monroe. 40degree temperatures. 28 in jeffersonville. Place. In some areas, its still relatively mild with 40degree temps, and other places were will have number of those below tonight. Were getting a 40degree reading in central park. 39 for spring lake. So november, we all know, warm. Warmest on record. December, average temp already 6. 2 degrees above normal. So december is definitely off to a mild start. Yes, its early in the month, but guess what. The next seven days continue this mild trend. Sight. At least not now. Not even an inch on the ground, we would have had close to it. So far, nothing. So what can we expect Going Forward . Another dry, and cold night ahead. More mild sunshine tomorrow. The temperatures do dip briefly midweek. But then were much warmer by next weekend. If you thought this weekend was a fluke with mild temperatures, it looks like we will do it again next weekend. Showing light, thin clouds that have sorted moved in over the area. Still, High Pressure sliding so that means were actually going to have more of those very mild temps, as we head into tomorrow. Then look what happens late week, and weekend. We will have a few that will be below freezing. For others, just cold, low 30s, to the low 40s. We also have a dense fog advisory until 8 00 a. M. This is portions of a dense fog advisory and other locations, patchy fog develops, but doesnt rise to the advisory level. High temperatures for monday, check it out. Upper 40s, to the low 50s across the board. So its not a bad day at all. Here is a look at your seven day forecast. We start the week with a 54 degree temperature, so incredibly mild. Look what happens at the end of the week. We look like a 55degree temp on friday. Upper 50s, to 60 next saturday and sunday. Only cool days this week, truly cool tuesday and wednesday. You just make the smart goal. Especially for a team that has had problems being able to close out opponents. Weve seen that this entire year, and again, it came back to bite the giants, because they were unable to close it out, but maybe what does it say about the jets for being able to come back and win a game. I think that was kind of a key to me all week long. Beckham was going to make some plays. He had the long touchdown today, which was a busted coverage. Five straight games, hes gone over 100 yards. The nets thought they were the team that was going to end it. They were the team that came closer than anybody to beating the undefeated warriors, back when they were just 100. Still a surprise when brooklyn got out to a 5 point lead in the 3rd, but the warriors finally found their barings. Nets go down 7 into the 4th, and thats where the warriors blew the game wide open. Back in 2011, the jetsgiants game was really the turning point for both franchises. That win catapulted the giants into the playoffs. They won a super bowl that year. Steve weatherford was the giants punter that year. So tonight, i started our conversation by asking him if this win can do for the jets what it once did for the giants. I think less of a catapult, more of a momentum push. Week 13, and were in week 12 right now, if im not mistaken. Its momentum. The nice thing about being a new york giant fan right now, or player, is you control your destiny. With that being said, they win these games, they punch their ticket to the playoffs. Can i compare this team to the team that won the super bowl . Thats yet to be seen, but first things first, youve got to get your ticket to the dance, and they took the first step tonight. So if they do get a ticket to the dance, how difficult of an out will they be . That defensive line is the best in football. I think they have the second best defense in the National Football league behind only the denver broncos. The thing is, they were able to beat the new york giants tonight without their best defensive player in dorel revis. Your defense becomes even that much more, you know, almost stallworth of a defense. They have a lot to be optimistic about, sitting at 7 will the wild card race. With a giants fan, obviously very disheartening. Are you consoling them right now . A pro bowl season to see him come up short with that field goal. My heart hurts for him, because ive been in that situation before as well. Just continue to encourage those guys to go out there and finish this season strong, and see what happens.
