A Long Island High School student tried to go to class today despite being suspended in a sexting scandal. He says he is one of a number of students being punished for simply receiving a text message. Still, the school told him to go the home or be arrested. Diane macedo has the new information. Reporter just a little while ago, we watched as Police Escorted him out of kings park high school. He is one of 20 students suspended after a sexually explicit video between two teenagers made the rounds of the school. The 15yearold walked into School Without incident this morning but about an hour late, the principal called his father. His son is suspended from school as you know. Could you please come and pick him up. What happens if i dont . You know whats going to happen. Reporter he says he has yet to receive an official notification and aj insists its unfair to begin with. I dont think i should have gotten suspended at all. I cant someone from sending a text. Reporter he says his son didnt watch the video but was still suspended for being part of a group chat. Last night i got a threatening phone call from the detective precinct that if my son goes to school, we will be arrested. Reporter officers told him if he didnt allow them to escort his son out, they would pathing. Through being arrested. He did nothing wrong. Reporter and other students criticize the schools actions. We didnt ask to see it. They kind of just came to us and everyone is curious about it. People that send it around, i understand that. But people that receive it, its not right. Reporter he says hes upset because none of the football he says because they are in the playoffice. We are told the administration is behind closed doors and cant give us information. As for the students who made the video, its not clear what will happen with the girl involved. Police say the two boys made it are 14 years old, they go to Smithtown High School and they are now facing criminal charges. Diane macedo, cbs 2 news. Thank you. Several schools are closed today after a fire ripped through an abandoned building in new jersey. Lingering problems. We are live in paterson with details for us here at noon. Active scene. The fire has been going since about 11 00 last night. The smoke so bad they had to close six area schools. Its a fivealarm fire that burned through the night and on market street. The fire started in the basement, spreading throughout the entire structure. He recorded some of it while on his way to the school. Thats when i seen the fire. Reporter fire officials arent saying how it started but we know its an abandoned building that once housed a National Guard headquarters in the 1980s. Neighbors say theres been talk of turning the structure into a Recreation Center over the last few years but lately its been a hangout for drug addicts. If there aint no shooting and killing, its burning down stuff. The one next to my house caught fire a couple weeks ago. Somebody is burning down the buildings. I dont know whats going on. Reporter you can see the firefighters getting pizza bringing them food as they are fighting the fire in the rain. And that woman you just heard from, the family had been evacuated from their Apartment Building in the middle of the night and they are getting help from the red cross. Police have identified this man as one of the suspects, he is a 27yearold. Investigators say a drug deal gone wrong on path street led to the shooting. He on 35th street led to the shooting. They allegedly followed the victims to a subway entrance before opening fire. Rallies across the country today as workers demand an increase in minimum wage to 15 an hour for all employees. Investigators say last month, the man and woman had an argument inside the supermarket when he punched her in the face. The woman was taken to the hospital where he was treated for a cut to her forehead.
