Queens boulevard is shut down for about three blocks in each direction and you cannot Cross Broadway between justice avenue and crossing queens boulevard. That is the threat to broadway thats currently shut down. Portions of justice avenue and northern boulevard, excuse me, broadway beyond this point to the west are open. Theres a lot of Fire Department activity, equipment brought into the area so e with might see additional closures. Again, queens boulevard shut down three blocks in each direction of broadway. Thank you very much. A developing story in connecticut. All schools in fairfield are currently in lockdown after a threat came in to more than one school just after 9 00 a. M. 17 schools are affected by this. Police are responding to the school as a precaution. And officers are conducting check points but so far, they have found nothing. Schools will dismiss early today. We are asking parents to wait outside and we will bring the children out to them as opposed to perhaps going into the office and signing them out and that sort of thing. And we have Police Presence there to help make that as orderly as possible. Allschool and evening activities are canceled. Well after calls for answers about why accused cop killer Tyrone Howard was on the street, mayor de blasio is calling for reform to state law in the wake of the death of officer randolph holder. Reporter yeah, Tyrone Howard was already a convicted felon with a long criminal rap sheet. And the mayor says under current law, dangerous defendants like howard were allowed to avoid jail time. And now he says those laws need to change. Outside of city hall, the flags fly at half staff at the memory of officer randolph holder. While inside mayor de blasio demanding change so felons like officer holders accused killer are kept in jail. He cannot have died in vain. And some greater change, some greater good has to come out of it. Reporter right now new york is one of only three states where judges are not allowed to consider how dangerous a criminal is or their risk to Public Safety when determining bail. The mayor says both of those factors could have kept howard off the streets. The bottom line here is, when the risk to the public condition be legally considered in the bail process, when its not required to be considered in the diversion process, something is wrong. Reporter last october, howard was charged for felony drug sales. The 30yearold got a deferred twoyear sentence in january for diversion rehab program, part of a plea deal but howard never showed up for program. But what the judge didnt know at the time was back in 2009 howard was arrested in connection with a shooting that injured an 11yearold and a 78 yearold. Sources tell cbs 2 news those records were sealed and howard was granted youthful offender status despite being 24 years old. What were talk here is about handcuffing judges and being able to exercise fully their discretion. Reporter but for the grieving family of officer holder, its too late to save the 33yearold. The Prosecutor Says he was separated from the nypd for quite a few years for physical and mental reasons. Take a look at this wild crash involving a school bus in new jersey. Police say the bus plowed into a truck parked on the shoulder of route 35 south this morning. It pinned the bus driver. First responders had to extricate her. She was air lifted to Jersey Shore Medical Center in critical condition. There were no children onboard at the time. Police say the truck driver was inside a nearby 7eleven and then took off. A horrifying bus crash in france this morning has left 43 people dead. Many of the victims were Senior Citizens on a trip in wine country. Reporter french tv showed the skeletal remains of a site seeing bus after it hit a truck and burst into flames. It happened on the winding roads of frances wine country. Authorities say the truck driver lost control.
