Two Christian Churches in egypt, on one of the holiest days of the year. A threemonth state of emergency, as the u. S. State department condemns the bombing. Egypts president was back from the highprofile meeting in washington. The two vowing to fight isis together. And now this, two churches bombed, dozens killed, the deadliest day for christians in decades. The palm sunday choir was just beginning to sing. Then, this. The pews, stained with blood. Parishioners in shock, many dead. A bomb was hidden under a pew close to the altar. There was blood everywhere, this man says. All of the windows were shattered. Security was right on the door. On a holiday, there should have been more security. A suicide bomber tried to get inside. A child was playing inside the courtyard when the bomber blew himself up. This policeman who died in the blast stopped him. In all, more than 40 dead and Egypts Christian minority angry and afraid. A group affiliated with isis claimed responsibility for the bammings. But nbc news has not been able to authenticate that claim. Last december, a suicide bomber killed 28 at a cathedral in cairo. Egypts president declared a state of emergency and put more troops on the streets. Hes promised to protect christians and fight isis. President trump calling him a key ally during their meeting last week. The president tweeting his support sunday. And overnight, offering condolences and a phone call. As christians observed the holiest week of the year, pope francis frayed for the victims during palm sunday mass. Egypt, once more is mourning. Christians here wondering if they can ever be safe. At this hour, more funeral heres in egypt. Both christians and muslims were among the dead. And theres more questions about security at those churches, whether people were properly screened before going inside. All of this coming, as pope francis prepares to visit this country at the end of this month. The vatican says, that visit will go forward. Matt . Savannah . Kelly cobiella in cairo for us. In the wake of last weeks missile strikes, the Trump Administration is vowing to keep up the pressure on the syrian regime. But lawmakers want more specifics on the longterm strategy for syria. As for north korea, its provocative behavior has a u. S. Navy strike group moving toward the korean peninsula. All of this is creating tensions with russia. And things could come to a head tomorrow when secretary of state tillerson arrives in moscow. He will be the first trump cabinet member to visit there. And hes expected to press the kremlin on its threat of preventing syria of use of chemical weapons. And neil gorsuch is the Newest Supreme Court justice. Chief of staff Reince Priebus holding an hourlong strategy meeting with steve bannon and jared kushner. Bannon and kushner have been at odds, with bannon calling kushner and his allies west wing democrats. He is willing to blow things up. He feels most comfortable when there is chaos. Reporter a source familiar with the meeting, tells nbc news, the discussion was aimed at reducing that chaos. The president , himself, pleased with where things ended up. The governor heard in racy phone conversations with mason. Reporter those regardings, made by the governors former wife, diane, and turned over to authorities. What the relationship provides is motive and context. Like the time the governor sent a text to his wife, diane, saying, i love you rebekah. And to keep his affair secret, the report found the governor encouraged in atmosphere of intimidation. And both he and mason have denied there was ever a physical relationship. But bentley has apologized to constituents, while refusing growing calls to step down. I do not plan to resign. And this morning, there are reports that he is considering resignation. Part of the problem is, as the Airline Tries to recover, they have to max out their pilot schedules, their flying days and give them the minimally required time off for rest every day. Tens of thousands of people have been inconvenienced, pilots are upset and delta is in damage control. This morning, Delta Airlines is still battling a perfect storm of problems. It really upset and really exhausted. Horrendous. Horrendous. Reporter since wednesday, the airline has canceled more than 3,500 flights, more than 3,700 delayed. It all started in the midst of spring break travel when a severe storm forced a threehour ground stop at atlantas hartsfield airport. A major hub, where 60 of its fleet cycles through every day. Its stressful. Reporter angry passengers went to twitter with del deltameltdown. The airline going on damage control, dishing out 8 hsh00 pi and shelling out cash to people on overbooked flights. He was caught on Surveillance Video on tuesday, breaking into a gunshot in his hometown of janesville, making off with 16 firearms, a bulletproof vest and a helmet. 30 minutes later his car was in flames. This video was taken of jakubowski at the post office as he mailed a rambling 161page antigovernment manifesto to President Trump. Revolution. Its time for change. Reporter a guest who frequently appeared on oreillys show, walsh says the 67yearold says that oreilly promised to make her a contributor, but after rebuffing advances, he failed to follow through. I experienced Sexual Harassment as a job applicant as Fox News Channel by an employ named mr. Bill oreilly. Reporter witnesses say they saw two kids fall out of the house. Just flew straight up in the air. Id never seen anything quite like it. Get out of here. Get out of here. Reporter in the end, five children injured. Amazingly, all have survived. In a statement on facebook, the Church Hosting the carnival saying, we are saddened for those who were injured during the unfortunate accident. We join their families in prayer for their full recovery. But these accidents are happening all over. From new york. To florida. Oh. Bounce house. Reporter to colorado. Theres not a kid in there . Reporter two kids were hurt when high winds sent this bounce house tumbling 300 feet across a field. And remember this . Two kids seriously injured when winds sent them airborne. If i didnt see the videos for myself, i wouldnt believe that something this massive and what appears to be sturdy can go flying into the air from some wind, but they do. Why do they go flying . But if they just leave the stakes, you have to do it. Wore in the season where a lot of us are renting these for the kids. You check for every one of these. Its unclear whether the bouncers were tied down. But experts say most accidents happen when people dont follow instructions. We never expected to get in we never expected to have as many amazing opportunities as we have. Can i say, when i see young men like you, i look over here and i look at mom and dad. Over here. This week marks the beginning of passover and the holy week leading to easter. In that spirit, we are kicking off a new series called soul searching today. All week, we have stories of people who sought deeper meaning and perspective and hope in their lives. Jenna bush hager is here. Reporter when abigail pope turned 50, she took a deep dive in the rituals of her jewish faith. And learned that disconnecting was the best way to reconnect with her roots. I was seeking more meaning in my life, in some way, as i began to be an emptynester. Reporter as an american jew who wasnt raised observe vant, abigail began a journey into judai judaism. Over one year, she interviewed 30 rabbis across the country. She studied 18 jewish holidays. Quite a feat, considering she, like typical jews, celebrate just a handful. The journey is chronicled in her book, my jewish year. Tell me what it was like. It was transforming. For an observant jew, its their way of life. I dont expect to get a trophy for doing it. But i wanted to take a deep dive in the jewish tradition fully for the first time. Reporter what was the inspiration behind this . Something was nagging at me. Here is a faith and a heritage thats ancient. And its a blueprint for life. Why dont i look at whats in front of me and try it for myself. Reporter one of the things that you practiced was pausing on the sabbath. Right. Reporter and looking at your family. Appreciating what you have. It can be hard, to put the phones down and turn everything off. It was hard. What the sabbath requires is powering down. Having conversations that are facetoface and not on devices. That is such a difficult thing to stop or detach. Reporter a lot more of america has gotten to know the culture of observant jews through ivanka and jared kushner. I think theres a lot of curiosity of what it means to live an observant life. Reporter your mom called and said that means that you are observant. My mother was surprised when she emailed and got a message back that i cannot be reached until sundown on saturday. What do you mean i cant reach you . Reporter part of the theme of your year was to do it and youll feel it. Absolutely. Do it and you will feel it. Sit in a suka and you will feel fragility. Light a hanukkah menorah and you will feel community. Light candles. Reporter what did you feel . You look at light and say, what does it mean to have a heritage, a family, an zeancest. Those things come quickly when you do something as simple as lighting candle sticks. Reporter passover is this week. You set a nice table for all of us. And part of passover talks about slavery, obviously, and the jews being free. But its also inner slavery and looking at what keeps you back. So many rabbis said what you did. Its not just the larger idea of slavery. It is our personal what we are enslaved to. Im enslaved to my devices. Enslaved to my email. And i would like to free myself of that obligation because i think sometimes im missing the moments. Family, is everything. And holiday after holiday, brings the family together. And reminds you of that. The fact that my fatherinlaw was dying when i was writing this, and the fact my son was going to college for the first time was not going to live under my roof anymore. Reporter it was hard. These are things where the holiday meets you, right where you are. Whatever is happening. We arent necessarily guaranteed another moment. And so, make sure that the one that youre in is as powerful and meaningful and lovefilled as you can make it. All right. Its so interesting. She found all of this faith that she didnt know was there. And it helped her cope with this hard time in her life. I think a lot of people in the times were living in are searching for something. And that seems like a nice way to connect to that something. Taken for granted and part of her heritage, in such an intentional way, looking forward to it. People are invested in these characters. Thats why a little kiss can be so powerful. This is the first in the final trilogy. We know theres going to be ten films total. You have put in all this time with these characters. Yeah. When i came on as producer, i started to produce films as trilogies and every film spoke to the next one. And they adopted this franchise and this episodic style of story telling. Now, you have alisters saying, can i be in it . Including helen mirren. How did that happen . She called me up. An i was at an oscar party. And she comes up to me and says, vin, ive been talking about you so long. Get your act together. I want to be in your movie. And so, i look the writer we were in production or preproduction. I took the writer and the director with me to the Dominican Republic for a week. And we wrote her into the movie. Jesuit school that has a military bent to it. Half of the kids were in uniform and not. I was not in uniform. I was not in the school. You were in class, you werent just i did no schoolwork. Sometimes i wasnt in xlasclass. My mother reminded me that she got a phone call saying, you know your son hasnt been here for five weeks. Where were you . We would go to breakfast. And were going to glaze the lamb on the outside. This goes the oven after you sear it. And you have a beautiful leg of lamb. And you can baste it with that sauce, every 15 or 20 minutes.
