Earlier in the week. This morning, how bad its going to get and how long the big chill will last. Highspeed chase a Dramatic Police pursuit in houston, caught on camera. Two suspected bank robbers racing down the highway, slamming into cars, riding on their rims, with sparks flying. The police chase finally coming to an end, with this dramatic attempt to carjack another car. This morning, the tale of the tape. And survival of the fittest. Chanel and two producers put their lives on the line, taking part in a simulated plane crash into the water. The Lessons Learned and the bonds formed. Today, saturday, march 4th, 2017. Announcer from nbc news, this is today, live from studio 1a in rockefeller plaza. And welcome to today on another busy saturday morning, im craig melvin. And im chanel jones. Were waking up to more drama this morning. President trump moments ago sending out a flurry of tweets. A Shocking Development this morning, writing on twitter that former president obama had his wires tapped at trump tower before the election. Lets get to casey hon in west palm beach. Good morning. Chanel, craig, good morning. President trump already up here at his winter white house in maralago. Tweeting potentially explosive new allegations about the Obama Administration wiretapping at trump tower just before the election. He writes, terrible just found out that obama had my wires tapped in trump tower just before the victory. Nothing found and he says, this is mccarthyism. This is just emerging, we have reached out to former Obama Administration officials and are trying to find out exactly the latest and what has happened. But this is shaping up to be another busy weekend for the president. President trump touching down in florida for another working weekend. It is not rest at the southern white house, its all work. Making the short trip from his maralago estate to the swanky four season, meeting with wealthy republican donors. In public, trying to turn the tables on democrats, tweeting this picture of nancy pelosi meeting with the Russian Ambassador after she claimed she hadnt. And in one of Chuck Schumer at a gas station with Vladimir Putin. For the record, schumer tweeted, they were krispy kreme donuts. The democrats arguing their meetings were out in the open while President Trumps associates meetings were secret. The latest former trump former policy adviser carter page who once said he had never met with the Russian Ambassador. This week did you meet Sergey Kislyak in cleveland durks talk to him . Im not going to deny i talked to him. Pressure is mounting, with democrats demanding that the Justice Department give congress more information about any investigation into Trump Campaign contacts with the russians. I would say at this point we know less than a fraction of what the fbi knows. Democratic senator chris kunitz telling nbcs Andrea Mitchell that there might be transcripts that the fbi isnt showing congress. There are transcripts that provide critical insight into whether or not russian intelligence and senior russian political leaders, including Vladimir Putin were cooperating, were colluding with the Trump Campaign at the highest levels, to influence the outcome of our election. Meanwhile, Vice President mike pence facing his own controversy. The indy star reporting he just turned over 13 boxes of emails, sent from a private business, sent from a private account while he was governor of indiana. Theres no comparison whatsoever between Hillary Clintons practice of having a private server, mishandling classified information. Hillary clinton was on a flight with her one of her former top aides when a fellow passenger caught a picture of her reading the u. S. A. Today story about mike pences emails, a little irony there. But i want to also point out the president still tweeting in the middle of a series of these, as we were just in that spot, how low has president obama gone to tap my phones during the very sacred election process . He said this is nixon watergate. Bad or sick guy. So set up to be a pretty busy day with us trying to figure out exactly what he means by this series of tweets. Explosive allegations. All right, kasie, thank you. Our nbc news political analyst, former Senior Policy Adviser for senator rand pauls campaign. Heres another tweet that President Trump posted. I bet a good lawyer could make a case out of the fact that president obama was tapping my phones just prior to the election. We dismiss a lot of his tweets as silly or ridiculous. But this is a bold assertion. And it looks like this is going to be something that he continues to do throughout the day. Whats he thinking . I think that he clearly is upset over all of the talk about his administrations ties with russia. And hes trying to turn the conversation by labelling people who are questioning these administration ties with russia, and the administration contacts, into the nixon. He hastened the comparison to nixon. So now everyone is doing that to him. They are rex nisant of nixon. Hes trying to change the subject . Exactly, by trying to prosecute obama and questioning surveillance powers that went through the fisa court. So this is not new information. We no that the intercepts between members of the Trump Campaign and russian officials, that under our nsa wiretapping program, that those transcripts are available, that that meta data is available. This is not new information. But he is clearly trying to take the offensive this morning. Lets put this into context. Its been quite a week. It started out to me on a positive note. He had his joint address to congress. And then came this drip, drip, drip as you were talking about with these russian allegations. In fact take a look at this screen here. We talk about the fact that five advisers during the Trump Campaign had meetings with russian officials before the inauguration. You have Jeff Sessions, michael flynn, jared kushner, carter page, j. D. Gordon. Theres a lot of smoke here, but is there any fire . And where do you see all of this going . Well i like that comparison of a drip drip drip. Now the faucet is running full and its going and its not going to stop. Thats the problem with President Trump rejecting any kind of investigation. If they were just forthright, we have nothing to hide. We were talking to russian diplomat counterparts, this could go away, if that is in fact what happened. By looking like theyre covering up something. The fact that all of these advisers have changed their stories so many times, its just a cloud of suspicion that it really is going to dog his presidency for at least the first two years as the investigation continues. Lets talk about the gallup poll that came out yesterday. We are roughly 50 days into the Trump Administration. His disapproval numbers just north of 50 . They continue to be among the lowest of any president at this point in their administration in modern history. Numbers like that, what do they do to the administrations ability to advance their agenda . Well i actually think its been a little overblown right now about his low approval ratings, i think its so early and also in a lot of the polls you can see a significant portion of voters who might have voted for President Trump just to oppose Hillary Clinton and theyre satisfied with his policies. They may not like his personality and the way hes behaving but theyre hopeful about what his policies are going to be. If he could control his personality, such as maybe not going on a tweet storm about Sensitive NationalSecurity Issues that are plaguing his administration, perhaps he would be doing better in those approval ratings. Or accusing a former president of tapping his phones. Im sorry, going into conspiratorial territory that makes me wonder whats in President Trumps mind. Lets get to the brutally cold temperatures gripping the east coast this morning after our warm winter, its a rude awakening today. Indira is in for us. Its been pretty unbelievable, right. Thats the case. Winter is hardly behind us just yet. Heres proof of that. Just take a look at the video out of pennsylvania, more than 30 vehicles were involved in this massive pileup on friday in whiteout conditions. Three people airlifted to nearby hospitals, no reported deaths at this time. So yeah, its early march, we typically would be looking at very cold air as you can see the maps right now. All the cold air making its way in from canada. Whats not normal is what weve been feeling. Its been this huge flipflop, everyones words have been how weird is this. Look at the temperatures we saw just on wednesday in new york. 70 degrees, it was humid, people were in tshirts, it was sticky outside. Temperatures about 35 degrees above normal and look at the difference this morning. Well get your National Forecast in just a moment. Theres a small amount of relief being felt among the Jewish Community this morning. After an arrest was made in relation to a stripping of threats made against houses of worship. Nbcs morgan raffert is here with more. Juan thompsons arrest is the first in connection with a rash of threats made against Jewish Community centers in 36 states. Prosecutors paint a picture of a disturbed man and a scorned lover who went to Great Lengths to get back at his exgirlfriend. In some cases saying she planted the bombs. And others, using his own name. After months of bomb threats, leaving jewish communities on high alert this is something that puts everybody on edge. The fbi says 31yearold Juan Thompson of st. Louis, missouri, made at least heat of those threats, his arrest coming as a relief and sobering reminder of a threat that still lurks. Just because theres been an arrest today around our bomb threat does not mean that the threats have disappeared or will stop. According to the fbi, thompson was a copycat making those threats to get back at an exgirlfriend after they broke up last july. Through a series of emails and phone calls, Authorities Say thompson said his ex was behind the bomb threats against the jews. And that she placed bombs in dallas, san diego, and at the antidefamation leagues new york headquarters. The he allegedly also made threats under his own name at schools and museums in new york and detroit. But later claimed the ex had made them. To set him up. Thompson appeared in a st. Louis federal court friday afternoon charged with one count of cyberstalking. His mother, telling nbc he is a good man. But thompson has a colorful past. Seen here, working for an online news site called the intercept, which fired him last year for allegedly making up sources and quotes. Prosecutors also cite comments allegedly posted from his twitter account just last week. Saying know any good lawyers . Need to stop this nasty racist white girl i date who had sent a bomb threat in my name. Thompsons arrest comes as more than 100 bomb threats have been made against Jewish Organization ace cross 36 states since the beginning of the year. Prompting rallies of solidarity to support jewish communities. If someone wants to try to instill fear that we are people that stand up and inspire courage. Leaders who say hate should never be met with silence. Thompson did not enter a plea at his arraignment and is not suspected in most of the other threats, which are still under investigation. Meanwhile, states like new jersey have beefed up security around religious centers, hoping to protect vulnerable communities. Chanel, craig . Morgan, thank you. In tennessee the hunt for a killer continues this morning as the family of a 23yearold nurse stabbed to death in her own apartment prepares to lay her to rest this morning. Nbcs sarah doloff is live with the latest on that. In just a few hours family and friends will gather here for Tiffany Fergusons funeral. Five days after the bright, gifted nurse was killed inside her own home. This morning, teal ribbons dot the home town of Tiffany Ferguson as those who knew the 23yearold nurse and twin prepare to say their goodbyes. The nicest person ive ever met. I mean that very sincerely. Ferguson was a nurse at this hospital in nashville. Officials there describing her as a rising star. Its a sentiment her fellow nurses, who also counted her as a close friend, share. In the toughest of times, she was there to comfort family members, comfort patients. She would give you the shirt off her back. But on tuesday, that promising career cut short by the man in this security video, who police say was checking for unlocked cars before he allegedly entered the groundlevel apartment ferguson shared with friends through an unlocked door. Searching for valuables, when he came upon the 23yearold. And after a confrontation, stabbed her multiple times. Our detectives are working hard around the clock, we are following leads. We are in the midst of questioning folks. According to a search warrant, investigators took evidence, including fingerprints, dna and carpet samples from the apartment. Officials and those who knew ferguson are now asking for the publics help identifying the suspect in the video. To help bring this case to a close. They are friends, coworkers, twin sister, older sister, whole family, theres so many questions. And someone out there has answers. And everybody wants answers. And authorities stress that at this point, they believe that this was a rare, random act of violence. Still, they are encouraging residents to be vigilant and be aware of their surroundings. An awful story. Thank you. Now lets get to other stories making headlines this morning. A pair of Armed Robbery suspects are in custody after a Wild Police Chase played out on the streets of houston. The hot pursuit began friday when police got a call about a bank robbery. The suspects car careened through the streets bouncing off cars and losing a tire. It got even crazier, the smoking wreckage came to a stop in front of carlos warra and his son, jose. The suspect lumped towards carlos in an apparent attempt to carjack him. Thats when jose sprung into action, wrestling with the driver until police took him down. Carlos says his son is a hero. Jose says he was just protecting the man he loves. Another Wild Police Chase ended inside new york citys busy lincoln tunnel. New Jersey Police trying to stop a minivan for a moving violation. The driver led them inside the packed commuter tunnel. Has it not been the weirdest week weatherwise. I do weather, even im confused. We saw 70s, record temperatures on wednesday, now the northeast and many of us with the wind chill this morning, feeling like were in the Single Digits, if not below zero. So definitely a huge shift in the northeast. Even chicago, i mean you should have seen some snow, now finally a few flurries in your area. Nothing much there. Down through the southeast we are starting to watch some showers building in through the region. Another system in the pacific northwest. Were looking for about one to two inches of rain. A little bit warmer on sunday and we warm up to kick off the following workweek, it looks like temperatures are going to climb into the upper 40s for the Lehigh Valley and 50s for everybody else. We may see some scattered showers for Lehigh Valley, otherwise developing clouds but we will warm up into nicely into the upper 40s and 50s and 60s by tuesday. Im so spoiled, it was such an a amazing winter that im freaking out having to go out. Tell me about it. Thank you. To california now where a smart idea several years ago has made one school very, very rich. It all started with a parent, knowing when to make a good bet. Nbcs Steve Patterson is live there with a fantastic story this saturday morning. Steve, good to see you. Hey, good to see you, craig, so get this, the School Started that Investment Fund in the late 90s, a little over a decade later they decided to invest in this strange new idea called snapchat. Off of the advice of just one guy. Obviously not everybody was on board with the idea, so they decide upon the relatively small amount of money of 15,000. To the investment world thats like tossing a penny down a well and landing on a pot of gold. [ cheers and applause ] thursdays opening bell. The ringing sound of success for snap. Parent company of the popular disappearing messages app, snapchat. After it went public on the stock exchange, shares soared. Making instant millionaires out of investors, and billionaires out of its founders. But arguably the most surprising score . Its crazy. Was raked in right here at this high school. Its an amazing transformational opportunity for the school. Way back in 2012 during the early days of snapchat, private catholic Silicon Valley school st. Francis high used an old venture fund to invest in snap. Today after selling off twothirds of its shares, their 15,000 drop in the bucket is now a pot of gold worth 24 million. Its crazy. Such a silicon volley thing to do. I think right now st. Francis may be the coolest high school in the united states. This guy, the dad, barry eggers is the reason why. He was on the board of his high schools growth fund, a venture capitalist. I came home from work one day and they were sitting around the Kitchen Table and my daughter and her friends and my son were all sitting there engulfed in their phones. And i asked them, what are you guys doing . After he saw snapping in action, he convinced his company to invest. Then the school. The rest is now a lesson in knowing the value of a smart idea. Right place, right time. It turns out we were in a good position to make the early investment in snapchat. A small bet on a big idea paying off in a little extra school spirit. Also important to note, the school is only cashing in on about twothirds of shares. So it plans to make even more money on the remaining onethird. As for what it plans to do with that cash . Obviously they want to beef up their endowment and make improvements to infrastructure. Also important to note, nbc news universal, the Parent Company of nbc news invested 500 million in snap. Lets talk about the school for a second. They make 25 million off snapchat, that investment. Any sense of how much the dad himself is going to make . What did barry walk away with . Well obviously this guy knows what hes doing, right . It was his company that originally made that investment for hundreds of millions of dollars. Before he let the school in on the action. You have to understand that the guy is probably doing pretty well. Hes focused right now on how well his company is doing and how well the school is doing. Steve patterson in los angeles. Can he call with any advice he wants to give the rest of us. Still to come, baby news from dylan. More baby news as well this time from Natalie Portman. A war of words between a ceo of uber and one of his companys drivers, criticizing the companys founder for slashing fares and the incoming of drivers. You drop the prices on us. Yes, you did. [ bleep ]. Travis kalanick quickly apologized. A surprised ending at the oscars, that even hollywood couldnt script. La la land. It was a mistake, moonlight you guys won best picture. This is not a joke. No happy ending for the two accountants in charge of the envelopes, theyll never again work the oscars. And savannah had a funny flop of her own, mistaking her onair partner with her reallife husband. When i was getting up, feeding every couple of hours, matt was breaking news. Where is my freud textbook, mike would say thats our secret. Thats funny. Thats so funny. Her little ones were here yesterday and they were saying hi daddy. Talking to matt. That would have been like a joke, exactly. Has that ever happened to you. No, not really. Your names are so different. Mike, matt in savannahs defense. It will happen now. That oscars moment, by the way how about that . Ooh. We watched that live. I thought it was a sketch until i think a lot of people in the audience thought it was a sketch, too. But you know, no one is laughing and now that were days in, we know what happened and the guy that was supposed to give them the envelope was tweeting and talking. You know, i like how they ended up making it a special moment, anyway with the two producers. Something well always remember. Ill tell you what were going to keep talking about for a while is the temperature shift. Is the with weather, nonweather winter, what is going on. Were continually seeing the shift today in the northeast. Very cool, meanwhile on the west coast, what an atypical year as well. Still talking about plenty of rain making its way in. Once again more showers in the pacific northwest. A colder system, were not looking for a lot of rain out of this. Maybe about one to three inches of rain. Were going to be seeing some snow in the sierra. The system making its way through Southern California as we go towards the end of the weekend. Anything we can do to help the Drought Conditions is great. Especially talking about systems like this that arent dumping a whole lot at any point in time. Generally speaking about an inch of rain through Southern California, Northern California and as far as snowfall, another one to three feet of snow into the sierra fl. Definitely good news, what youre going to be watching out for is the winds. They are going to be blowing out there. Very cold system. Brinng ingi im first alert meteorologist erika martin with your most accurate forecast. Coming up an intense Survival Training course that had me thinking twice about where i sit on a plane. Jeff rossen with some other lifesaving skills you need to know to prevent you from getting swept away in your car during dangerous flash floods. But first, these messages. Announcer this portion of today is brought to you by keytruda. This morning on rossen reports update. How to survive if you and your car ever get caught in floodwaters. Its more common than you might think. This years flash flood season hasnt even started and drivers have already been caught by surprise. Today National Investigative correspondent jeff rossen is in los angeles with an eyeopening demonstration. Jeff, good morning. Hey, guys, good morning. Look this is normally a late summer problem. But here we are in the dead of winter, and theres historic flooding in the west catching many drivers offguard. I wanted to update this story to help them and all of you. When the rain comes down in buckets, water rises fast. Sometimes its easy to see the raging river of water but other times it looks calm enough to drive through. Especially if you have an suv. This morning we have a powerful demonstration for you. Were about to show you how much water it takes to sweep my car away. Cars washing away, drivers trapped. I was shaking, its scary. It happens fast. It overtakes you in an instant. First, the rain. Then the wall of water. From colorado to texas. Already this year, recordbreaking flooding in california, sweeping drivers away. When he hit the creek bed, it fishtailed and it just took him in seconds. Watch as just weeks ago rescuers toss a life vest to this little girl and her father trapped on the roof of their car, water rushing all around them. Thankfully they were pulled to safety. And in this new case, a family stuck in this truck, the mother desperately hanging on to her young child as a rescue swimmer latches on and pulls the toddler to safety. Incredibly everyone was saved. All across the country, the power of flood water just too ferocious. You would be surprised how little water it takes to float a car. Thats why so many people get trapped. And what happenes if you get trapped . How do you get out . This morning were about to show you, were here in whistler on this special training course. And believe it or not. Theyre going to turn this into a raging flood. And today im playing the victim. Im going to get inside this pickup truck. Theyre going to turn the water on and were going to see how long it takes for this thing to wash away. And then how will i escape . Lets get going. Turn it on. Oh boy, here it comes. Watching everything from the side. Jim douglas, a certified trainer, are raven rescue. How much water does it take to flood a car . Not even a foot. Just this much will make a car float. What about suvs and 4 x 4s . So many people that have 4 x 4s think they can stadrive right through standing water. The big tires are like balloons, theyll float even faster. The water is so low, you can still see the cement below. When my pickup truck is swept away. Thankfully mine is tethered with strong chains, otherwise i would be barrelling out of control downstream. The water is now seeping into the car. This is crazy. And scary. I cannot open the door. To get out. I cant open the door at all. You need to roll the window down. Thats it. And thats a critical tip. Roll the window down the second the water rises. Its your only way out. What do i do . You need to get out of the truck. Get out on the roof. On to the roof . Get on to the roof of the truck. This is very scary. The water keeps pouring in as i struggle to escape. Its much harder than it looks to climb out of a window. I get out just in the nick of time in seconds the water is nearing the roof. Already over the steering wheel. But now that im on the roof, i have a new set of problems. Now what . You need to get stable. Stay low, hang on. With the truck moving youre going to have to ride with it. Do i stand up on this . No, stay low, get stable. Like this . Exactly. Can this car float . The car can flip in as much as six feet of water. Oh, my god. I need to you stay on the high side. It is so scary, with the water coming at you like this. And remember, i know this is a drill. How it must feel in a real emergency. So i should just stay with the car no matter what . Youre going to be going downstream with the car, youre going to have to wait for rescue, at least being on the roof, youve got a fighting chance if youre inside and that car flips over youve got no chance. Lifesaving advice when the flash flood strikes. The simplest advice from experts and it seems pretty basic, but not enough people are doing it . Stay out of these flooded areas altogether, even if the water looks calm. Not only is it dangerous for you, its really dangerous for the rescuers who have to go in after you. Guys . Good advice. And coming up, you got your own survival story. Another water rescue, right . To say the least. Coming up, two Delta Airline pilots making history and breaking barriers. Breaking barriers. Congratulations, craig. Happy 40th little brother. Retired after 32 years of service, so we came to new york my favorite part of the morning, good morning to you, welcome back to today on this saturday morning. It is a very chilly one here in the northeast. Temperatures dropping to the teens today. Thats more than 50 degrees colder than earlier in the week. Thats not stopping our friends from the plaza to waving to everyone back home. Were going to get there in a moment. Well have more on the cold weather as well. Before we bundle up and head out. Lets start with the breaking news, President Trump up early with a series of shocking tweets, accusing former president obama of wiretapping trump tower. Nbcs kasie hunt is following it all. Good morning to you. Craig, sheinelle, good morning, this set of explosive new allegations, President Trump over the course of about half an hour this morning, tweeting six times the russia investigation into Trump Campaign and aides, and potential contacts with the russians, clearly on his mind. He first tweeted terrible just found out that obama had my wires tapped at trump tower just before the victory. Nothing found this is mccarthyism. Then he again tweets how low has president obama gone . To tapping phones during the very sacred election process, this is nixon watergate. Now nbc news has reached out to former Obama Administration officials to try to get more details on what they have to say. And President Trump often reacts to reports in conservative media outlets. So were trying to take a look at that. There was a conservative radio host who focused on this issue during his show. And on fox news last night, brett baier asked House Speaker paul ryan about whether there were socalled fisa warrants granted to allow the government to look at communications in trump tower. There was New York Times reporting around this. The House Speaker said that he wasnt sure about anything along those lines. Although of course we should note that the speaker does get highlevel intelligence and is often careful about what he reveals in public. But the New York Times at one point did report that they, the government officials were allowed to look at a server that was in trump tower. At this point, no definitive reporting on any wiretapping of phones or listening in on conversations. Obviously we are looking into this as much as possible. And its all taking place as the house and Senate Intelligence committees are both investigating what happened between the Trump Campaign and any potential contacts with the russians. And we know that democrats, particularly are increasingly frustrated that the fbi has not given them more information about any investigation that they may be doing into these contacts. The top democrat on the House Intelligence Committee saying that he only knows a fraction of what the fbi knows about this. So again, this very rapidly developing story just this morning, craig, sheinelle, an explosive twist here. West palm beach, kasie hunt, thank you. Providing the dramatic backdrop in the nailbiters, and our favorite comedies. Kids, big ben. It may be a timeless timepiece, but its only now that scientists are uncovering the secret behind its chime. For the first time ever, researchers from Leicester University have mapped out vibrations from big bens bell to find out how it makes that distinctive sound. The bell itself, 13 1 2 tons of copper and steel. After climbing all 334 steps, you cant just glue sensors to a National Treasure so researcher martin dock rel and his team turned to cuttingedge laser technology. Analyzing the bell simulated here as a chart to map its unique vibrations. In terms of other bells that weve measured before, its much larger and slightly different tuning to normal bells. This shows big bens lowest frequency, 95 hertz. But at the high eer frequencies it vibrates in complicated patterns. Dramatic, iconic, punctuating londons routines for generations past, and those to come. And that clock has been work sog hard for so long, that no surprise it needs a few repairs. So unfortunately, big been will be falling silent late they are year as part of this tower restoration effort. But not to worry, if youre planning a visit to london and youre dead set on hearing the worldfamous chime in person, big ben will be ringing in the new year. Craig . Because you see the water its coming up, coming up and you know, im trying to take the last breath. You also said theres Something Else that you discovered in terms of like wearing the seat belt. So heres the thing, god forbid youre ever in the car or in the water. Your first instinct is to unbuckle, especially when youre on a plane. But then you lose your your bearings, so when you wait we flipped over, you wait for yourself to feel like you really stopped, then you unbuckle and you can feel around and remember you know, you kind of get your bearings, if you unbuckle early. Which happened in our, when we tried it. We were lost. You cant get out. And youre always picking your seat now . Thats one assignment i would have refused. You know what, i feel like i conquered something. Never again but i feel like i conquered it. All right. If you would like to see what she was really thinking when she went through that experience theres a great web extra, at todayshow. Com and we didnt beep out the language. And shoutout to hannah and joelle, our producers, it was a team effort. I have anxiety just watching it. What happens when you lose everything. Thats what happened to hip hop volunteer inist Damien Escobar, today hes made his comeback. We caught up with him on the set of his latest video, get up and dance. 30yearold Damien Escobar describes his life and music in one word its also the name of his upcoming album. Boundless a coming of age album. It embodied freedom. Freedom to create and do what i want as an artist and a person. It seems to me you could have called it comeback. That would have been the easy way out. There was no easy way out for damien growing up with his brother on the tough streets of jamaica, queens. It seemed that he had found his calling. The child prodigy who played the violin like no one else. 13, graduated from juilliard. I went through my moments, i got arrested for a gun charge when i was 14. I made some poor choices, but i found my way back. I picked up my first love. Me and my violin got a love affair. She pays my bills, she takes care of me. Every now and then you have a falling out . Isnt it marriage . Damien and his brother were featured here on today 11 years ago. They went from playing in the subways of new york city to performing at the white house. Winning two emmys, appearing in commercials and gaining fame and fortune. It was all about money, it wasnt about the message or the purpose. When he split with his brother, damien became depressed and stopped playing. Soon, the hip hop violinist who first started performing in the subways was sleeping in them. E train, a train. I didnt want to burden anybody, i didnt want to go to anybodys house, i didnt want people to know i was homeless. His daughter helped inspire his comeback. She said daddy, what are you going to do now . I depart know how to answer that. I hadnt played violin for about ten months. When i first picked it back up, it was more so for my kids. But as i started creating, and started seeing the lives i was touching and finding my way and music and finding myself. It became something for me. Whats up, caesar . Now his mission is to give back to his fans. Like 7yearold caesar. I want to hear you. A violin prodigy who has sicklecell anemia. Hes had two strokes by the age of five. He has to get monthly blood transfusions and he wakes up every day and smiles and plays his violin. If i can use my platform to bring awareness to you, to raise money to get this huge operation he needs, ill do it. Today, damiens music is his motivation. I cant imagine doing anything else. I found my purpose. Once you find your purpose, you find yourself. And he says that he found his purpose again. He found his purpose and he felt like he kind of gotten off the path and now hes rediscovered that love affair with the violin. Hes currently on tour, performing for packed audiences here in this country. We like dark meat in my family. How long are we going to keep it in the fridge . That gets covered for about 30 minutes, all the way to overnight. You have some thats been marinating already overnight. What were going to do now is create the dredge. So this is some allpurpose flour, cornstarch and baking powder. All three . Heres the thing, the cornstarch will create this nice crisp texture on our chicken. Now what i want you to do, is add about two ladles of some of our liquid marinade. To the dredging . To the dredging. And i added my sizening mix. Whats in the seasoning mix. I noticed how fast you went there. My seasoning mix. He just threw that out. Were going to take our chicken here its been marinating. We got some cayenne pepper in there, too. Loving it. Drop it in the pan there, how hot should the pan be . About 360 degrees. Really no more than that. Im us a a castiron skillet because in the south thats what we do. That guess fried. How long . Ten minutes total. I finish it in the oven. Why is that . We want color on the outside, we dont want to overcook it. We finish that in the oven. We have some prepared right there. That looks beautiful. Can i touch you, maybe your skill will rub off.
