A tremendous amount of damage not only from tornadoes, but theres been a lot of rain. The ground here is saturated. You can see here that saturated rain in the ground along with flash floods have set off problems with things like this sinkhole. But the most damage coming from tornadoes. Tornado just hit our town reporter more than two dozen people were injured and some homes were fully destroyed after a severe storm struck the small town of van in texas. This is something you only see in movies. Seeing where the homes once stood and theyre not there anymore. Reporter and there was a huge twisting in iowa where it ripped off the roof of the building. Inside for a banquet, 125 people hunkered down. Remarkably no one was seriously injured. These weather systems from south dakota to texas creating chaos also packed drenching rain. In krum texas, up to 4 inches of rain in an hour led to flash floods. It went all of a sudden. There was nothing you could do if you saw it coming. Reporter the National Guard rescued a half dozen residents trapped by the flood waters. I knew i was scared but i knew she was going to be okay. Reporter this 76yearold was standing on the bed with the rising waters already soaking her feet when a National Guardsman came through her window. Im dressed in hospital garb. Reporter because everythings gone . Everythings gone. Reporter how powerful were those flash floods . That woman said as the waters came and she was being hoisted up to a helicopter it swept through her front yard took her car. They found her car washed down the street more than a mile away. All right. Kerry sanders in texas for us thank you very much. And al, whos going to get it today . Its a much wider swath. Almost 60 Million People being affected by Severe Weather today. Weve got it going on right now. In fact, as you look down in southern texas where youve got a flood watch and severe thunderstorm watch in effect weve got severe thunderstorm warnings also just to the east of del rio, texas. This is all part of a line thats going to stretch from chicago all the way back into texas. The upper midwest on into western pennsylvania. So we have a risk today stretching from western pa Southern Michigan all the way down into texas. 57 Million People at risk. Greatest chance for tornadoes will be in southeastern michigan indiana, and ohio. So the northern part of this line later on this afternoon. And we also have flood watches and flash flood watches and warnings from arkansas into texas. Why . Look at this. Were looking in the next three days about 3 to 4 inches. But by the weekend were talking anywhere from 5 to 7 inches of rain in central and southern texas. Their drought has been taken care of pretty well but at a real cost. Todays dylan dreyer is in virginia beach. Good morning to you. Reporter good morning, matt. Yeah the remnants of Tropical Storm ana has made their way to virginia beach. This is now the earliest Tropical Storm to hit this far north on the Atlantic Coast before Hurricane Season even starts on june 1st. It made landfall in myrtle beach, South Carolina where it produced nearly 6 inches of rain. We also saw peak wind gusts at 50 to 60 miles per hour. The coast of North Carolina picked up 2 to 4 inches of rain. Beach erosion was the biggest concern because of the rough surf. Now, here today we are looking at those torrential tropical downpours that could lead to some brief urban flooding. But the biggest concern here will be for the rip currents in the ocean. Tomorrow its going to be about 90 degrees here. With folks at the beach, they really need to keep that in mind. And i want to point out a preseason storm this early is no indication that its going to be a bad Hurricane Season but of course well see how that all plays out. Dylan, thank you. Meantime well go to mississippi. It was an emotional scene in the town of hattiesburg last night at a vigil for two Police Officers who were gunned down during a weekend traffic stop. A fourth arrest has now been made in this case. All four suspects are due in court later today. The death of these Police Officers has shocked this close knit community. Overnight in hattiesburg, a candlelight vigil. The city mourning the deaths of 34yearold Benjamin Deen. And liquori tate. They took away my baby. Reporter on mothers day yolana ross had this message for the kill perer. The hurt is unbearable. Reporter his family says tate wanted to be a Police Officer since he was 4. He was a hero. He backed up his partner. Reporter police say officer deen stopped the vehicle. When officer tate came to back up both were hit. Following a manhunt did you do it . Reporter Police Arrested curtis banks and charged him with being an accessory. A fourth suspect Cornelius Clark was later charged with obstruction of justice. The shooting comes as police around the country are on edge. Thousands mourning a naulen nypd officer on friday. The number of officers ambushed and killed last year was three times higher than the year before. But hattiesburgs mayor does not think deen and tate were targeted. I think we had Police Officers in the wrong place at the wrong time. Someone who didnt want to go to jail would rather shoot his way out. Reporter these are the first officers killed in the line of duty in this town in more than 30 years. A Memorial Service is planned for later today. The suspects due in court as well. The fbi and Homeland Security are urging police around the country to be extra vigilant. And they say its important for people to speak up if they know someone that could be inspired by social media to become violent. The plot to attack in texas and the fbi says it was inspired by social media messages from isis have added another dimension about attacks by homegrown extremists. Were very definitely in a new phase in the global terrorist threat where the socalled lone wolf could strike at any moment. Reporter the fbi director says hundreds of people in the u. S. But last night at this arena in downtown baltimore, thousands put the pain of the past few weeks on hold and enjoyed a brief moment of unity. Baltimore came together sunday night for musical healing. Prince performing live in the heart of a divided city. We are here for you tonight. It was very good for the city. It made us feel like we mattered. Attorneys for the officers have called for the charges to be dropped alleging mosby has numerous conflicts of interest. Something she denies. Its the weather. 57 Million People from texas to ohio are in the path of Severe Weather following a rough night of tornadoes and storms across the midwest and south. At least two people died in arkansas. More than 25 were injured in texas. Four people now in custody in connection with the deaths of two Police Officers in mississippi. 34yearold Benjamin Deen and 25yearold liquori tate were shot and killed during a traffic stop on saturday night. A vigil planned for those officers this afternoon. And the defense is expected to call its last witness today in the penalty phase of the Boston Marathon bombing trial. Dzhokhar tsarnaev who was convicted of all 30 charges in the attack is facing a death sentence or life in prison. But let us begin this half hour with the big question facing nfl commissioner Roger Goodell. What punishment might tom brady face in deflategate . Craig melvin has the latest on that. This Morning League officials are responding to reports that a punishment for the nfls biggest star is imminent 37. This morning has the nfl decided tom bradys fate . Faculty multiple news reports indicate the nfl will suspend brady this week. Writing the only question now is how many games with which goodell will hit the leagues star player. But an nfl spokesperson tells nbc news no decisions have been made. No timetable. Goodell has vowed they will protect the integrity of the game as brady refused to turn over his home or any emails. I believe tom brady is going to be suspended. The question is how many games. We routinely see players suspended for smoking marijuana for getting in trouble off the field. As reprehensible as some of the off the field incidents are, they have no relation to the integrity of the game. Reporter included Baltimore Ravens star ray rice who was suspended with video surfaced of rice knocking out his thenfiance in an elevator. He was later cut. And adrian peterson. He was suspended last season after pleading. And Cleveland Browns receiver josh gordon suspended for a year after repeatedly violating the Substance Abuse policy. As brady awaits word Peyton Manning stopped short of defending his rival. Hes my friend. Hell always be my friend. I dont know what happened. I dont have much more than that for you. Reporter brady has denied any involvement in deflategate despite the report by ted wells finding, quote, it was more probable than not that brady was at least generally aware. It goes to the integrity of the game. Is goodell in a box . He is. And you hit it on the head. This is you know were talking about deflating footballs. Its not in the grand scheme of things its not a big deal. But if you are tampering with footballs, you are tampering with the integrity of the game nap is something that will not be acceptable. Let me read you some factors. Kind of a laundry list. You tell me how you think these factors should impact the penalty that tom brady faces. Tom bray is one the most highprofile most glamorous players in the nfl. If you dont punish him, what does that send to others . If you want to prevent others from doing this what better way than to make an example of him. Tom brady refused to turn over Text Messages to investigators looking into deflategate. And that could be seen as conduct detrimental to the league. And that brady was quote, at least generally aware, end quote, of what was going on with those balls. That sounds wishy washy to most people. It does but that is the burden of proof for the nfl. Thats their way of saying yes he did it. Roger goodell and bob kraft the owner of the patriots are very Close Friends. How might that impact the punishment . I think that actually hurts the patriots more than anything. Because goodell cant be seen as showing favoritism to any team particularly one that hes close to their owner. Youre on the clock. Whats the penalty . Who should be handed down . I think itll be a game or two games. I think it will end up being two games again just because they have to sent a message. Two games is the same penalty that Roger Goodell initially handed down to ray rice after that brutal punch to his wife in that elevator. Now, one was an assault and the other is a Technical Rules violation. But what impact does one have on the other . I think, yeah there will be a lot of people who will say its the same punishment as ray rice. But as awful as it was and weve all talked about that that didnt have a direct correlation to the game. This does. And as you said Roger Goodell is all about protecting the shield and thats what hes going to have to do in this case. No matter what penalty is handed down tom brady will likely appeal it through the players association. Yes. Which raises the question does the wells report stand up to the scrutiny it will face . I think so. If you just look at it with the smell test it doesnt look good. And yes, you can say theres some questions about the methodology but at the end of the day, common sense. We are taking a closer look this morning at whats being called a shocking new study by nyu medical center. It was published in the journal Childhood Obesity. Heres what it found. When parents were asked if their preschooler were too thin too heavy, or just about the right weight nearly all of the parents of overweight kids said their kid was just right. Experts are now calling this the goldilocks syndrome. Dr. Natalie azar is a contributor. What parent would call their own child fat or obese . Maybe they dont want to use those words. Thats exactly right. That was one explanation for it. The issue why is it so important . Its because parents have the idea kids will outgrow obesity and maybe thats why theyre more reluctant to acknowledge it. We know more importantly that these habits that children learn start very young. So in the preschool age is when these Healthy Behaviors are going to start taking form. Thats why this time period is so essentially important. One of the things the study found is when parents were assessing where their child fit in on this weight scale, they often were comparing to other children. They thought my kid looks like the other kids so thats why my kid is just right. Exactly. And it has a name. Its called the social comparison theory. They invoke that as to one reason why this happens. Rather than parents looking at growth charts saying my child is in the obese range. They say he or she looks the same as the kids in their school so therefore they must be doing okay. So what are parents supposed to do . As a parent myself the last thing i want to do is put my child on a diet and give my child all those hangups for the rest of her life. Well one important thing to come out of this study is really that its communication with the pediatricians thats so important. Its a little bit not so much on indictment on the medical community, but clearly theres been a lack of communication between the doctors and the parents together to form sort of a uniform task force, if you will. Because parents need to feel empowered. And they have to say, listen i cant ignore the facts anymore. It appears my child is in this range. We have to start intervening early because as we said before these behaviors are set very early in life. Its a matter of encouraging healthy eating. And they model and the parents are the most important factor in what behaviors a child will eventually have. Always a good reminder. Thank you so much. Thanks. He drove it from graceland and in a corn field and back around into graceland again. If the walls could talk. Theres eight beds right . Nine beds. And 12 seats. Are these the original its all redone but we have the original blueprints as well in the auction. This is how it was done out in the beginning and has been redone you know its a working bus. Wow. There is a kiss involved. There it is right there. Was it awkward to do that even though youre acting in what is a very funny show . Yeah. Its always awkward to go outside yourself. But you get a license, as it were when youre acting to do those things that you would not normally do. And as long as you do it within the context that the license gives you, youre fine. If you do that outside the context, then you could get in some trouble. How about for you . In thinking about it in contemplation it could have been awkward. I played an indian and he played a greenhorn kind of pioneer and we stole a horse back and forth for a long time. We filmed it in mexico in 1978 . I dont know. 78, i believe. Nice to be back together. I asked jane is and lily this question last week. Ill give you a shot. Any do overs . If i gave you a do over careerwise is there anything youd say id rather change that . The article says that women tend to worry more about their children. They say were biologically hard wired to worry more about our children. And studies confirm mothers tend to draft all the to do lists. We do more of the hr when it comes to taking care of the household and the home to help manage the kids and make sure theyre lined up for all the things theyre supposed to be doing. Not to say, obviously that there arent dads who dont contribute equally. And as the author says in the article, you cant make sweeping generalizations here. No. However, the point is, she says, that women tend to have the are hard wired more to worry about their kids. What do you guys think . I think debra and i switch off on the scheduling and things like that. We kind of try to pick up the slack with each other. But when it comes to i think, the worrying about safety. Yesterday nick wanted to walk to church for the first time by himself. And debra didnt want him to do it. I said, got to let him do it. Its not that far. I said heres what well do. I told him what route to take. And i gave him about a five minute head start and then i followed him on my bike back about two blocks. And let debra know. Okay, little roker is by the church now. Little roke is in the big house. But he was fine. Did you ever reveal to him you were tailing him . No. Thats good. Good thing you didnt say it on national tv. Hell never hear about it. Hell never know. I think in my house joe and i equally divide the labor, i think when it comes to scheduling and doing a lot of the soccer duty. Maybe joe does more of that and i do more of the household stuff. But we are pretty much down the line helping each other out. But i think overall when it comes to worrying about the bigger picture, are they doing too much, are they overscheduled . Is it too much soccer, too much stress . I think im that one. I think we try to do it pretty equally but christina gets the credit. In terms of signing people up for karate and getting them there. By virtue of her being there more than i am, she does more. Id like to do more. But i think we have a balanced relationship. I think part of it is women tend to kind of take that on and if we dont do it quite the way you like us to do it then you just kind of swoop in. Give me that. I read a parenting book and it talked about changing the childs diaper nap if your husband changes the diaper wrong, let it hang off. If you go in and fix the diaper, youre instilling in him he cant do anything right. So if you get the scheduling wrong, christina just has to say okay hes off a bit. I have to let it go. Otherwise youll check out and she will eventually adopt the role of being the worrier and the hr person. Its true. You cant complain. If theyre going to pitch in and help you out, if you dont sometimes in the makeup room before natalie says i cant believe joe sent them out wearing this. So what . Its true. But you cant tell him. Well when andrew sent me the script i realized i had been hearing about drone strikes for a decade without any mental picture of what it means. I think if we hear about certain kinds of warfare, we have some context and vocabulary for what it is the newspapers and government are talking about. But i had no idea what a drone strike really was. And so i was fascinated because this is something thats happening to this generation of soldiers that theyre being asked to do.
