We lost our tents and whole setup here for a little bit. This is the same line of storms that moved through yesterday in the south and produced an estimated 13 tornadoes and more than 200 reports of wind damage that destroyed homes and took at least two lives. Severe weather spread 800 miles across the south, bringing damaging winds, heavy rain and possible tornadoes. And causing downed power lines, leaving thousands without power. This time lapsed video showing the storm tearing through arkansas. From nashville, tennessee, where Weather Channel dave malkopf had a close call. That was right on top of me. Reporter to dora, alabama, where a 75yearold woman died when a tree fell on her home. We lost a good lady in our community. Reporter and in ashdown, arkansas i was in a dead sleep, you know. And all of a sudden, my husband shakes me and he said, baby, hit the floor. Reporter destruction from a possible tornado with homes damaged and tractors overturned. Things thrown everywhere t gives us a good indication that this was a tornado that came through this area. Reporter a marine and father of three died when their home was hit. Their mother is in intensive care right now but shes stable and the father didnt make it. Reporter in texas and louisiana, tens of thousands of people without power after possible tornadoes there. And this line of storms is now racing to the east. And with it, moving to the east is that threat of Severe Weather. Now it doesnt look like its going to be as bad as yesterday but, al, we still have to be on alert, especially this afternoon, up into the carolinas, where storms could get very strong. In fact, the risk of Severe Weather stretching from roanoke all the way down to daytona, as far west as tallahassee and atlanta in this as well. As we look at the live radar, you can see how heavy the storms are. These areas shaded in red, thats where we have tornado watches into early afternoon hours. So, were going to continue to track them. We have flash flood warnings also starting to fire up across the plain and into the south. Rainfall amounts anywhere from one to two inches. Locally we could be look at two to four georgia, and three to five in the panhandle. Also gonzalo. So far, Tropical Storm watches and warnings canceled for puerto rico. However, this storm is expected to become the strongest of the atlantic hurricane season, 140 miles northeast of san juan, 110 Miles Per Hour, moving northwest at 13. Here is the big problem. If you are, or know anybody in or around bermuda or planning a trip to bermuda, this is bad news. Friday night, some time late friday, this will be a category 2 storm making its way across bermuda, already devastated by fay last week. This could be very bad news. The cdc is now monitoring all hospital workers who treated dallas worker Thomas Duncan after a 26yearold nurse contracted the virus. This morning we know more about her and the care she is receiving. National correspondent kate snow is in dallas for us this morning. Kate, good morning. Reporter good morning, natalie. Last night, we learned that dr. Kent brantly, the First American to be treated for ebola who survived has once again donated his antibody rich blood for the 26yearold nurse. Shes in stable condition. Were learning more about who she is. At our lady, prayers in vietnamese for this nurse, who always wanted to. Her mother urged her to quit working with ebola patient Thomas Duncan but she stayed. Shes do iing well and feeli comfortable. Reporter for the third time, the First American to survive ebola, dr. Kent brantly, donated blood, coming to the hospital in person to help the nurse. One man she also came into contact with when she was infectious is also in the hospital, according to the company he works for. Then theres her dog, beloved king charles spaniel, bentley, who she was worried about. Despite protests in spain, excalibur, belonging to a nurse there fighting ebola, was euthanized. Dallas Officials Say they have no plans to put bentley down. He was removed from the apartment. That will be the best cared for dog in the united states. This young lady is a hero. She is concerned about her health and that dog and we are going to take care of that dog. Reporter that dog is part of the reason why brad smiths cleaning crew saturated the sidewalks outside with disinfectant. Did someone tell you she had been on that concrete . No. We just knew she had a dog and there were other residents walking their dogs out the front and around the back. Reporter ebola can only live on surfaces a short time and scientists arent sure if dogs can transmit the disease. At the hospital monday, a town hall meeting, where the staff prayed. The big question remains, how did pham become infected on the job while wearing protective gear . We have not identified a specific problem that led to this infection. We have identified a series of things where we can make the care safer and easier for the Health Care Workers who are provide i providing it. Questions are being raised about a possible breach of protocol that led to nina phams infection. It comes with very strict guidelines for health workers. We visited emory hospital in atlanta where Kent Brantley and Nancy Writebol were successfully treated. As jason puts on this suit, we help each other get dressed and undressed. Nurses jill morgan and Jason Slabaugh show us the process of putting on and taking off what they call protective gear. Its quite a production. Suiting up can take up to 20 minutes and its always done in pairs with a second worker helping and watching every move. We tape our first set of gloves on. Doubling up on gloves and boots and even wearing a helmet with a builtin fan. He has a fan running basically pulling air from the environment through a hepa filter giving him a positive airway all the time with a flow of air. So hes never breathing any air from the outside room. The goal . Protect ourselves from whats in these environments, whether its the patient and their body fluids and then were trying to make sure we dont carry any of that contamination out of that room. Theyre inside the isolation room for up to four hours at a time. When we are in that room, you are all in, eating, drinking, taking a bathroom break all wait until you can come out of that suit. Outside the isolation room theres always a second person, suited up as backup for an outside observer, watching for any signs of contamination or for a misstep. If i see anything that might be dangerous for them, well interrupt that behavior right away. Leaving isolation and taking off the suits takes just as long, the danger far from over, the risk at its greatest. Inadvertently, it seems while trying to maintain your equipment, people actually end up contaminating themselves when theyre taking pieces of equipment off. Even after the equipment is off, a three to fiveminute shower body scrub. Everything is important to keep whatever is in this room in this room and keep it from getting out into any part of the environment. Now, in addition to all those steps, anyone who came in contact with the ebola patients was then monitored for 21 days. As you can see, it only takes one little mistake. And you can be contaminated or exposed to the virus. It is scary to think. And the levels of caution they put in place but still, its still not preventing this. One more update on our team that covered the Ebola Outbreak in africa, dr. Nancy snyderman release this had statement. Quote, while under voluntary quarantine guidelines which called for our team to avoid Public Contact for 21 days, members of our group violated those guidelines and understand that our quarantine is now mandatory for 21 days has passed. We remain healthy and our temperatures are normal. As a health professional, i know that we have no symptoms and pose no risk to the public, but i am deeply sorry for the concerns this episode caused. Passengers on an American Airlines flight from San Francisco to dallas have a h harrowing story to share after a mid air scare led to an emergency landing. Betty nguyen has that story. Reporter caught on camera, a terrifying moment in the air for more than 180 passengers flying on American Airlines from San Francisco to dallas. Both sides of the cabin started ripping in and tearing in. We started screaming and shouting. Reporter minutes after takeoff, portions of the cabin began to buckle in, forcing the plane to turn around. Initially, the crew made the decision to keep flying after inspecting the damage. They peeled back the panels and checked for daylight. They said were okay for now. Were going to keep going. Reporter after the pilot took a look. Immediately got back to the cockpit and said were turning around to sfo, declaring an emergency and emergency landing. Reporter the crack was most likely caused by a broken air duct but the safety of the plane was never compromised, Officials Say. The cabin never lost pressure and no one was injured. School bus driver arrested under suspicion of driving under the influence while taking dozens of parents, students and teachers on a field trip. Here is nbcs miguel almaguer. I am honestly shaking. Police dash cam capturing a Utah School Bus driver swerving erratically on a busy highway while transporting more than 70 students, teachers and parents on a class trip. I dont get scared very easy, but my heart is pounding. She cant stay in the lanes. Shes crossing the double lines. And its the adults are getting scared. Reporter one chaperone called 911. The bus sped down the interstate at nearly 80 Miles Per Hour during the field trip to bringingham Young University in provo. Ooh, ooh what happened . She almost hit this van next to us. And she is nuts reporter troopers pulled over the bus on an interstate off ramp 40 miles south of where the trip started and arrested the driver, 39yearold alicia martinez. Reporter police say martinez, who worked for the district for six years without any known previous incidents, is on paid administrative leave during the investigation. No one was hurt on the bus. Her pastor saying her mother had actually urged her not to care for duncan, but that she was so dedicated, she wanted to help. Reporter small collected nearly 200 high heels from all over the world in different styles, shapes and materials. This is the oldest shoe in the collection . Yes. A more traditional one. Youre substituting turkey for the beef. Thats right. I want to do a healthier version of this very beloved comfort food. The weather is going to get cold. Theres football. Theres a great thing to make. Its better the next day. We just browned some turkey with all these spices and vegetables. Carrots, celery, peppers, onion, garlic, green chile and some oregano. Once the meat gets some color, add tomorrow atoes, tomato past water as well as these chipotles and adobo. You can tone it down if you like less spice . Absolutely. That should get to a boil in five minutes. You want to cover it and cook it down for 45. Next is the white chili. What are you leaving out . The red tomatoes and all the tomato paste. Were doing veal basically in a little bit of hot oil, some fennel seeds, which are right here. In a blender you basically put all these vegetables and youre using green tomatoes or mexican tomato tomatoes. First were going to put in a little milk to soften this meat. You want to make sure that its broken down. This will tenderize your meat. Once all that white is gone from the pan, about five minutes, youre going to add this. This is what it comes out looking like . Theres chives in it. Vegetarian. White beans in the second one, beans and meat and this one is just beans. Traditional indian dish called rajma, which just means kidney beans. Its very hearty. This recipe has less than 230 calories a serving and it has eight grams of protein. Real quickly, what are the spices . Cumin, crushed red chiles and garlic minutes, garam masala. The ginger went in earlier. That cooks down . This cooks down as well. You want to cook it down for a long time. Add the beans at the last minute, garnish with cilantro. Im going to try the white chili. Ive never had Something Like that before. Let me try that and tell people as i do this that the new season of top chef appears tomorrow, 10 00, 9 00 central on bravo. One School District in virginia a number of them have thought about this. Theyre considering holding yearround classes. The kids are still going to go for 180 days but its over 12 months. It is going to cost the School Districts more, i understand, because youre keeping the school open and running during the entire time. Thats right. But do you also save in say, remedial courses because kids dont get that summer slide that so many kids get . Theres something known as brain drain which weve covered through education nation. It actually exists when kids take a break for the summer, even some of the brightest of kids end up taking a few steps back over the summer break. It is the summer slide. And you definitely even with my own kids, as much as you try during the summertime to get them to do moth and read as much as possible, they do regress a little bit. And then theres also i remember, you know, when i was a kid, you looked forward to that that long ago. You know, the end of june. You had two months, clear sailing. Yeah. And when you get into high school, i dont think you put a cost on the education you get by working a summer job. Absolutely. We all did it. I agree. Summer and during the school year, i worked year round. There were balances. Going to summer camp. I mean, you form great friendships with people. You develop life skills outside of the classroom. To me there is one terrible thing that people can do and thats that theyre too afraid to call at all. They dont want to impose. I was that way before and now i just say, just call. Send a card, right . When i got out of surgery, ill never forget the first phone call that came to my room was from matt. Didnt hesitate, didnt say, like, i didnt want to bother you, just call anyway, right. Just to get through. Because people need to know that they are still in peoples thoughts, that theyre valued. When youre sick, and you dont know what the future is, sometimes you wonder whether you still have value, are you going to be able do it. You need to have people lift you up in their thoughts and prayers and hold you. And in fact there are prayers like that, and you need to know that you are still important. So those calls, those letters, those emails, those funny little those funny little commentaries you can send, a joke, it works with some people, may not work with others. You have to know the person and your relationship is different with different people. Let someone know, im thinking of you, youre in my heart and im praying for you, if this is something that resonates. Is there something i can do. Something else people do, they say, have you ever talked to this doctor or did you try and when youve been through a battery of doctors, last thing you want to hear is, oh, by the way, you didnt do enough. Thats how they take it. Even if they mean well. All of that, men and women, have this inner critic, but it can so much hold women back. Do they get that from their parents, just that parental thing they grew up with parents telling them this is the good news. We dont have to go into therapy and find a deep, dark reason. We all have it. It is our human brain and the way our fear of failure and rejection expresses itself. What we need to learn to do is hear that voice of selfdoubt, but not take direction from it.
