On top of that, were also talking thunderstorms possible by your monday kicking off the dnc possibly with storm activity and as we move throughout your workweek into your next weekend, well have that possibility of more scattered showers in the forecast. So here are your temperatures as they are this morning. 81 degrees in mt. Holly. Trenton, 80. Wilmington, 83. Out to the shore, Atlantic City at 81 degrees. Already in the 80s. Well be cranking it up to the 90s in most areas. The shore excluded. May see mid to upper 80s there. Sources tell nbc 10 lee was found unresponsive at Ladder Company 12 in philadelphia. He was working the night shift. He was pronounced dead just before 8 00 in the evening. The Department Says his death is currently under investigation. Were going to make history in philadelphia by nominating and electing the first woman president of the united states. Mayor jim kenny says philadelphia is ready to shine in the global spotlight. The Democratic National convention is one day away but before the Convention Even begins, there are protests planned and this all comes amid a new email scandal thats sending shock waves through the party. They have bernie written on their tshirts carrying a lot of water into fdr park. Entrance is tightly controlled here. Everybody has plenty of say about those internal dnc emails that were released. Wikileaks put those out and one dnc staffer suggested Committee Members should talk to reporters about the Sanders Campaign being a mess and an organization that never had its act together. Another email hinted as using sanders religious beliefs against him. Sanders supporters say its going to hang over the convention this week. We are marching for a miracle. The evidence is so clear that there was absolute fraud that took place in this election, that voices, millions of voices were not heard and those voices all say we want Bernie Sanders as our democrat candidate for this presidency. A large space next to the Wells Fargo Center and emergency workers are already in place with a lot of resources, trucks, tents, bringing in a lot of water because of the intense heat out here. So far its been quiet. No major demonstrations. Just people entering the park. There are more police out here right now than there are protesters. They say they Want Health Care and pension benefits that were terminated two years ago to be restored. New this morning, three people are in the hospital after the septa bus crashed. The septa bus collided with a car on East Allegheny avenue in philadelphias Port Richmond neighborhood. Were working to find out more about injuries. Also new this morning, Philadelphia Police are looking for the person who stabbed a man in germantown. This happened on west queen lane around 1 00 this morning. The victim is listed in serious condition. Police are continuing to investigate the motive. Police are also looking for a driver who took off after this threecar crash on roosevelt boulevard. One person went to the hospital. The crash happened along the boulevard at d street around 2 00 this morning. Police are still trying to sort out how this all happened. We look at ourselves as really as tristate entity. Looking toward november, what should candidates be focusing on when it comes to fixing health care . You know just a little bit about this. I just wrote a book. We all blame everybody else. And if somebody does read my book, youll see those 12 disrupters everybody could agree on. We might disagree about how we pay for it. Democrats may think government should pay for it. Republicans should think free margaret should pay for it. Everybody is going to agree that we need to get into the consumer revolution and we need to have doctors make less mistakes and we need to come up with ways of making sure that we provide safe, Efficient Health care. One more thing. We need to reduce health care disparities. Theres a lot in the book about that about how we take what weve done very well in philadelphia and pennsylvania but not have it just be for a few. Trying to be optimistic here. Yesterday not only did we have not only very hot temperatures but we also had high humidity, which actually allowed for some of those isolated severe thunderstorms to pop up in the late part of the day. Today humidity will be down just a tad. First alert still in effect because temperatures will be so warm. Pennsylvania, new jersey, aside from the shore, and delaware where we look at from now through tuesday with an emphasis on monday. The reason being, like we said, very hot and humid. 100 to 105 feellike temperatures and maybe above 105 in a few spot areas in those afternoon peak hours. Thats when its best to just stay indoors. I know it looks great outside, but it is very, very hot. Already your feellike temperatures in some areas mid 80s. 85 what it feels like in philadelphia. 83 in mt. Holly and wilmington at 85. As a command officer any time you have a fire in heat like this, you look at double the manpower to circulate the guys through and make sure theyre hydrated and try not to work them too much. Crews are beefing up efforts as they battle a raging wildfire in Southern California that has now turned deadly. Wildfires continue to threaten thousands of homes. Kittens and puppies of course are always a big hit but lots of older animals also found families yesterday. Running ten degrees hotter than usual for this time of year in philadelphia. On your monday, this is a big concern for us. 99 the forecast high. Feellike temperatures above 100. Tuesday, still at 96 degrees. So some serious heat here. Next five days for us in philadelphia, we go from those 90s continuing thursday but we do pull in a chance of thunderstorms. On tuesday there will be an addiction caucus and rally in center city. Joining me now is martha from a local nonprofit facility specializing in Substance Use disorders. Thank you for joining us. Thanks for having me. First time theres an addiction caucus at both conventions. You will attend the one on tuesday in center city. Whats behind this kind of attention on addiction . Is it that its become so widespread and it really touches everybody all walks of life . Its really twofold. Youre right. It does touch everyone. This is one of those things where one in four families are affected by addiction. The other part of this caucus is really about changing the conversation about how we treat addiction and how we deal with Substance Use disorders. Political leaders will be attending this caucus on tuesday including delaware governor jack markell. What role do lawmakers play in addiction, treatment and in this crisis . Its a funding role. You know, we need to provide people with the same kind of treatment they get for any other chronic disease such as diabetes or cancer. And right now treatment for addiction is severely underfunded. Only 1 in 12 people who need Addiction Treatment are ever able to get Addiction Treatment. Its about changing all of that. You say that there are laws on the books that actually make it easier for people to get access to treatment but its not really being enforced. Tell me about it. Its called the parity act. It was passed eight years ago. What it basically says is that just like any medical condition, any disease, this disease, Substance Use disorders, should be treated and then paid for by your insurance. Today that is still not the case. The law is not enforced. So while you may have a medical condition and your normal insurance policy will give you 80 coverage in Addiction Treatment side, people have to fight for every single penny to get treatment for addiction. We know of course during this caucus and rally in center city during the dnc that theres going to be a lot of focus on what the candidates should be doing as we get closer to november. What they should be focusing on when it comes to really stopping and curbing this crisis. What do you want the candidates to know . I want them to know that people do recover. Im a person in longterm recovery from a Substance Use disorder. People do recover. People only recover when they have the appropriate comprehensive longterm treatment. Thats really what we need to be talking about. Again, it certainly is interesting that this is all coming at a time when its the first time that theres a caucus like this ever at a national convention. It is. Its really very interesting. Thats thanks to people like michael who is director of office of drug control policies and Patrick Kennedy of the kennedy forum, congressman norcross a number of people leading the charge and were thrilled to be part of it.
