Were a long way away from the violent storms that rolled through the area yesterday morning. Two confirmed tornadoes touched down. Crystal has those details for us. On top of that, a lot of Straight Line wind damage through parts of new jersey. Really parts of pennsylvania were unscathed in this situation. Today, everyone looks good. We see Clear Conditions across the board. Just some scattered clouds, and the live camera view, a beautiful picture to start out our sunday morning. Lets talk about the tornadoes that were confirmed in monmouth county. The first one, you can see the deep red and the push forward near howell. This is an ef0, the lowest rated tornado. The pat was aubt half mile, this is video you just saw near the home depot. There was a second one, shorter lived and also an ef0 tornado. You can see the strength of it, where the tornado was cub firmed location wise. This was near oak glen park. Both were just outside our viewing area, but of course, a lot of folks affected with the damage that rolled through. Current temperatures today, things are much better outside. Cool in spots. Up to 63, mt. Holly and vineland. Coatesville at 64. Philadelphia sitting in the 70s, and Atlantic City at 67. Lets compare this, though, to yesterday morning. Were a lot cooler than yesterday morning. 17 degrees so in vineland. 14 degrees cooler in dover. About 6 degrees cooler in philadelphia. Later today, well also be cooler in some spots. Ill talk more about temperatures and what to expect as we move into the work week. What a better place to be stranded in, home depro. Powerful winds blew open the doors and an official told us the National Weather service has confirmed two tornadoes touched down yesterday in howell township. A reporter from our sister station in new york spoke to folks there who experienced the furiousness of the twister. A better place to be stranded than home depot. This video was taken at the home depot on route 9. In a matter of seconds, watch what happens. Its a tornado, guys. Were going inside. I see the rain going horizontal and coming off the down spout and then the wind picked up and when it blew the doors open, i have seen storms like that, but nothing like that tornado. Look, right there. Police say heavy rains and winds caused drivers with cars inside into one another. Ripped up billboards and tore up storefronts. As you can see, the fence blew down and took the wall down with it. Also a twoinch diameter branch stuck in the roof up there. Surveillance video from a nearby ice cream shop shows the storm easily moving concrete tables out of the way. How heavy is this table . Its 420 pounds just for the top, so you have to have a lot of wind. There were about seven or eight that toppled over. The storm also uprooted trees and left thousands without power throughout the state. It was just like a tornado came through here. Tornado. Anything that wasnt tied down was blown away, including these clothing bins. Whipped it up about 200 feet. Went another 200 or 300 feet and cracked into a telephone pole. And that was our nbc sister station in new york reporting. Storm cleanup will keep roads in pemberton township today. Crews will be repairing utility poles. Stretches of trenton road took a bit of a hit. Detours will be in place until at least the early afternoon. Heavy rain yesterday left swelling creeks all around the region. You can see this creek practically flooded it banks, and take a look at this rushing water. This is near adams avenue in the citys crescentville neighborhood. The walter level has since reced receded. The storms knocked down this tree along kelly drive in fairmount park. You can see the blocking one lane of traffic. Drivers managed to get around it. Yesterdays weather also forced organizers of this weekends philadelphia escape triathlon to change their plans. This is a live look at the Schuylkill River where the swimming portion of the competition has been canceled. Pamela osborne is live along kelly drive to tell us more about what led up to the changes and what we can expect to see today. Pam. Reporter well, rosemary, this isnt the first time they have had to cancel the swim portion. They had to do the same thing in 2015. Today, athletes are getting ready for what Race Organizers are calling a dry tri. Instead of the swim, it will include a twomile run, a 40k bike ride, followed by a fourmile run that will start and end in fairmount park. The pros kick it off at 6 30. Theyre getting their bikes ready and getting themselves together. We asked some of the participate nlt we spoke to earlier this morning about the modified course. The was some disappointment, but athletes still looking forward to the competition, not to mention the purse prize money. The big thing this year is the return of the olympians in the race. A flight from philadelphia to germany is right back where it started, philly international confirmed last nights American Airlines flight to frankfurt returned due to a possible mechanical issue. We spoke to one passenger who was onboard that flight. We make it about three hours into the flight when we find out that the Navigation System isnt working. We have to make a uturn essentially and fly back to phil, taking another three hours. So basically six hours on a plane to get nowhere. All the flights are overbooked. We cant find anything for the next couple days. Airline officials tell us many passengers will be taking flights to frankfurt together. Right now, Philadelphia Police are investigating this crash on the vine street expressway. This is right in center city. At least two cars collided in the eastbound lanes of 676 near broad street just before 5 00 this morning. Coming into philadelphia, two people were hurt. As you can see, theres plenty of Emergency Personnel there on the eastbound lanes of 676. Drivers are asked to avoid this area because it is shut down. Lets head to the Lehigh Valley where a man and woman are dead of an apparent murdersuicide. This after Holding Police at bay for nine hours in an armed standoff. Nbc 10 got this exclusive video of the suspects car ditched in a muddy subdivision. Authorities tell us Police Chased the suspect who fired at an officer. The suspects then ducked into two different houses in the neighborhood looking for car keys. Police closed roads and evacuated neighbors in this area. The pursuit ended at a house on lanark road. Authorities tell us police only fired tear gas during the standoff. No officers or neighbors were hurt. Authorities have not released the names of the suspects. The Seth Williams corruption trial will resume tomorrow with a Philadelphia Police official set to testify. The federal trial ended friday with williams praises his lawyers efforts. Hes accused of taking bribes and gifts from a businessman who is a key witness for the prosecution. The d. A. Has pleaded not guilty to the charges. All right, lets talk conditions today. Well begin with a view outside and what a nice view it is, especially compared to what we saw yesterday. We saw some scattered clouds. This morning, you can see the sun coming out. Really nice shot outside our studios. What youre going to have is a mix of clouds and sun. I think more leaning toward the mostly sunny side of things especially down south near the shore. Lets talk about the temperatures. We should make it into the 70s this morning. 81 at lunch time, and mid 80s in the afternoon. Theres the icon showing you what i was talking about, mix of clouds and sun and a tad breezy with winds coming from the west, about 10 to 20 miles per hour. Along the shore, 66 as well. As we track through, well stay near 80 degrees in the afternoon. Low 80s possible for the official highs and a light breeze there as well coming from the west southwest. Chinas official News Agency Reports a landslide has killed at least nine people in the western part of the country. At least 109 people remain missing after the landslide crushed a remote village. About 2500 workers are searching for survivors. Three people, a couple, and they monthold infant were the only ones rescued yesterday. Hundreds of london residents were forced to evacuate their highrise apartment after fire inspectors found the buildings were unsafe. Those inspections took place in the wake of the deadly highrise fire earlier this month. The siding on all 34 high rise apartment towered tested so far have failed fire safety tests. Residents could be out of their homes for as long as four weeks. Investigators say a similar issue with building siding caused flames to spread very quickly through the gren felt tower on june 14th, what prompted the inspections. That fire claimed at least 79 lives. A cyberattack has forced theish parliament to turn off remote email access for members of the house of commons. The move comes after Officials Say hackers tried to access politicians email accounts. The attempt to hack parliament came a week after a ransom ware attack crippled health care service. A case of a baby found dead in a hot car could wind up before a grand jury. According to police, the father of the 7monthold baby told them he forgot his child was in the car. Investigators say he dropped off two other children at day care in morning and went to irk. According to authorities, the infant would usually be dropped off with a babysitter. These new jersey First Responders suddenly got a signal. After a drone with verizon 4 4g lte equipment onboard was sent soaring over this section. A flying cell tower. Full 4g coverage and just about every bar of signal strength. This Emergency Response simulation, giving members of numerous ages a chance to test out the new technology. The aim, to keep First Responders connected if lines are knocked out by a major storm. Were putting the tools in the hands of First Responders for the first time. To our knowledge, its never been done before. Im impressed. What this says is you dont need a crew to run a new line. Although it would be sent to an area where First Responders need help, others could potentially take advantage of that signal. Maybe they were listening to meteorologist crystal clyde because she was warning peep that in case there was a tornado out there, they should be careful, and in fact, there was. Two confirmed touch down. Lets get to crystal. She has our details on the forecast today. Initial a, it looked like a lot of damage through parts of new jersey and delaware were Straight Line wind damage, but upon video evidence, the National Weather service did confirm two tornadoes did touch down. The first icon, just to the west of howell township. Ef0 tornado, the lowest classification. Still obviously can cause a lot of damage. 75mileperhour winds with that. And was the one that did touch down near route 9. Then you see not too far away, a second tornado confirmed, lowest level tornado, this in oak glen park. A path up to 25 yards. This was a very short lived tornado, but none the less, caused some across the area. We pulled this out, its a much different picture today. You see no rain to track across our entire first alert radar. Instead, all were tracking is scattered clouds and a good deal of sunshine for the morning. Thats how its going to be the rest of today. A nicer forecast. Temperature, 72 degrees right now in philadelphia, and 63 in millville. 61 in pottstown and lancaster at 63. A little cool to start the day, but things will shape up very nicely into the 80s later on. Well talk more about the forecast highs for sunday and the work week moving forward. Words from police in Lehigh Valley came after a man and woman fired shots at officers. The gunfire led to an armed standoff that lasted for nine hours. It ended for the two suspects in an apparent murder suicide inside the attic of a house. The standoff happened yesterday near west Saucon Valley road and limeport pike. Thats where investigators say the man and woman wanted for a parole violation in another county took on the police. This video is exclusive to nbc 10. Authorities tell us its the suspects car ditched in a subdivision thats still under construction. One of them tells us he knew something was not quite right when he returned to his home. I walked up to my door and i stuck the key in, and i couldnt open it. This morning, police in philadelphia are searching for a killer following the death of a woman who was beaten and stabbed and left behind a high school. A passerby discovered the victims body early yesterday morning in north philly. Police are calling this murder brutal and violent. They also believe it was sexual in nature. Philly International Airport confirms last nights American Airlines flight to frankfurt returned due to a possible mechanical issue. One passenger reported being told the navigation equipment stopped working three hours into the flight. The plane is now being checked out. In the meantime, passengers are scrambling a little bit to rebook flights. Well have reaction from the passengers coming up later on this morning. Quick headsup for drivers. A busy intersection in north philadelphia remains closed because of septas route 15 track newell project. Broad street at girard avenue is closed, the intersection will reopen this evening at 8 00. Septa bus routes and shuttle buses in the area in the meantime being detoured. This weekend, delaware is honoring a citizen who lost his life while saving his stepson. The state awarded a medal to michael manly who swam out to help his stepson who got caught in a rip current in 2015. The teen made it back to shore, manly was swept out to sea. And an historic marker stands at the site of one of philadelphias darkest days. State officials dedicated a plaque to the bombing of move over headquarters. Plus dropped a bomb on the roof of the group move. 11 people died including five children. Hundreds of neighbors lost their homes in that fire that followed the explosion. Ramona africa survived the bombing. Yesterday, she said innocent lives paid the price. We are very clear on the fact that what happened may 13th of 1985 had nothing to do with osage residents. Students at the Jubilee School nomed the site for historic marker after studying the incident for two years. Certainly going to be a big topic on all the sunday talk shows, health care debate. Last night, the chairman of the Republican Party of pennsylvania responded to senator caseys town hall saying in part, sadly, bob caseys march to left continues. As a senator whose state is facing skyrocketing premium costs. Its disappointing he continues to play political games instead of working across the aisle. Senator toomey, please vote no when this bill comes before us in the senate. Thats, of course, senator Bernie Sanders in pittsburgh yesterday. The vermont lawmaker attended a rally urging senator pat toomey of pennsylvania and other republicans to vote no on the Health Care Bill. He told a crowd of thousands measure would hurt americans.
