Have seen a few contractors driving through, barricades are up, cleaning equipment at a stand still until the Restoration Companies return. What you can hear are dryers going, industrial size dryers at the front of some stores. Sky force was over baker center moments after that main burst for the second time in a short period of time. The Water Department tells us as much as 6 million gallons of water gushed out of control. We saw some of the 75 people rescued, another 150 needed to be sheltered in place or were carried by raft boats, by firefighters. One man trapped in his car as water kept rising. Officials do tell us dozens of cars are totalled. Some with water up to their windshield. The owner of one of the stores told us his insurance barely covers damage. His business is at the bottom of the incline or downward slope of the Shopping Center. Were very shocked that the city never fixed it. Been fixing it out there over a year and this happened again. I dont want to diminish what these folks have gone through repeatedly. That is not anything we want to do. When we make the repairs, we make them so it doesnt happen again. Reporter the Water Department commissioner tells us they were already planning to do a Million Dollar replacement on the main that burst. The cause of the massive water break is still being determined. Just across the parking lot, there are about a dozen other merchants, including a 24 hour laundry mat and several fast food stops. Both sides, septa management and representatives of the transport Workers Union plan to meet at the negotiating table this weekend and a hearing is set for monday when a judge will decide if the strike could effect the election. Until then, the judge says workers can stay on the picket lines, buses, subways, trollies arent running the city. Nbc10 first alert reporter is keeping an eye on this to hell you get around it. Theyre investigating why the first ballots went out so late. What we know is that the county decided it is such a severe problem, they got a court order to give them more time to send ballots back. Absentee voters have until tuesday.
