Waking up this saturday morning you might think, well, we will have a cool start and then the heat will come. Its actually on the warmer side if youre just waking up and what we can expect in terms of our weather story, mostly sunny skies, looking like a winner there, but, yes, the possibility of late day spotty showers, maybe even an isolated thunderstorm rolling through the area later on today. 77 degrees right now in philadelphia, mainly in the 70s the further east and south we go there. 74 in wilmington and 75 degrees in dover. Really, allentown at 67 is the cool spot. Philadelphia when we go ahead and check our timeline this morning, 77 right now, the sun has officially risen, looking for 80 degrees at 8 00 a. M. And 87 by 11 00 a. M. Guess what, we are expecting to bump up to 92 degrees for a high temperature. Yes, hazy, hot and humid, that will be the call for today. Were seeing radar showing us mainly dry. We do have the humidity in the air. What we can expect over the next three days in philadelphia, wow, look at the 90s, 95 degrees by monday and, yes, the responsibility of a late day storm. More on that in just a bit, ted. We are following a develop story overseas. An attempted military coup in turkey leaves dozens of people dead. The night was filled with those explosions you just heard, air battles and gunfire. Loyal military and Police Forces fought with the rebels to take back the country. At least 160 people are dead, more than 1400 wounded. Some 2800 members of the military have been arrested. Government officials blame the unrest on an islamist cleric who lives in Monroe County, pennsylvania. We have been monitoring developments in turkey overnight and having the very latest for you throughout the morning. Now, turkeys president as many of you know has spoken, returned from vacation. He did speak at the airport in istanbul. Just moments ago the Prime Minister spoke. And were learning the Prime Minister has said the coup is under control. Dozens are dead unfortunately. President Tayyip Erdogan says those responsible will pay. Troops sound responded to to the coup by taking over government buildings as well as tv stations. President erdogan and the turkish Justice Minister are blaming a man by the name of Fethullah Gulen who does live nft poconos. Sky force 10 flew over gulens Monroe County compound and while one of the americas allies is blaming an islamic cleric living here an expert we talked to from cornell does not agree. Its kind of a terrifying thing to see when, you know, you have a president who is in a safe and secure location calling on his people to essentially defy, you know, the military that were seeing and now that the military is using force on those people as well. Reporter gulen who has lived in selfimposed exile since the 1990s released a statement from inside his 26acre compound. He says and were quoting we condemn any military intervention in domestic politics of turkey. He also says the comments that have been issued by the government are highly irresponsible. No doubt we will continue to monitor all developments from turkey but once again the Prime Minister says the situation is under control and unfortunately dozens are dead. New this morning, isis has claimed responsibility for the deadly terror attack in nice, france, on bastille day. Meanwhile the French Prosecutors Office says five people are in custody. 84 people were killed when a truck plowed through a crowd, more than 200 wounded. Frances Prime Minister had said the driver Mohamed Bouhlel was a terrorist linked to radical islam. Prosecutors say he wasnt on nis watch list. He did have a criminal record, though. Witnesses say bouhlel zigzagged his truck through a crowded promenade aiming directly for children and families. All i could see is bodies lying on the ground, blood pouring out of them, total mayhem. Bouhlel was killed by police at the scene. President obama has ordered flags at government facilities to be flown at halfstaff until sunset on tuesday in memory of the victims. In san diego family and friends are waiting for any word on a uc berkley student who went missing in nice. Nick leslie was among a group of students attending a Study Abroad Program there. Friends saw him avoid the truck but lost him during the chaos that followed the attack. Leslies social media accounts have been silent. New from overnight, one man is dead in a shooting in philadelphias nice town tying ga neighborhood. Police were called to north op last night and found the victim dead on the street. No arrests. We have learned the victim lived on the same street where he was killed. A man is in stable condition after he was shot during an attempted robbery in philadelphias Oxford Circle neighborhood. The man was returning to his home around 4 00 this morning when the gunman approached him and tried to rop him. Then the shooter opened fire, hitting the victim in the head, back and leg. Police are still searching for that gunman. A philadelphia family is searching for answers after they say the body of their loved one was discovered in the trunk of a car. Tinika ballards sister was looking for the missing mother yesterday afternoon. Her found her car in the may fair neighborhood, smelled a strange odor and called police. It was a block away from where ballard was last seen nine days ago. She had a nineyearold daughter and her family does not believe she would do anything to hurt herself. She was about her work and about her daughter. She loved her daughter very much and she would have never just left her daughter and abandon her daughter like that. Police have not confirmed the identity of the body or revealed how the woman died. Now to decision 2016. In a few hours the trump pence ticket will introduce themselves to america. The republican candidates are meeting with the news media at 11 00 this morning in new york city. What were the last 24 hours like . Very exciting. Donald trump yesterday announced that indiana governor mike pence will be his running mate. Pence is oon evangelical christian seen as a safe pick who who get the partys conservative base on board with the trump candidacy. Hillary Clintons Campaign was quick to attack trumps pick, calling pence an incredibly divisive and unpopular figure. Cleveland is rolling out the red carpet as trump, pence and many other big names in the gop head there for the Republican National convention. It kicks off monday and security will be tight. Tens of thousands of protesters are expected. Police will use robots, horses and dogs to respond to any threats. North wildwood all beaches right be the cool spot for everybody to get in there and get under the umbrella. A Gloucester County teen says he was attacked while playing pokemon go. 17yearold Michael Morado was on his way to a friends house in Washington Township thursday night when he was attacked by two men. They punched him in the head, kicked him in the ribs before stealing his phone. The assault sent him to the hospital for stitches in his eye and staple in his head. He says from now on he will hunt for pokemon with a friend. Im still going to play once i get my phone back, but probably just going to be more cautious about where im going, how late i go out. Police arrested one suspect, the second man was not yet been caught. Washington Township Police are among dozens of departments warning people to be aware of their surroundings while using the popular app. Now your nbc 10 first alert weather. We are not expecting much trouble in the way of precipitation just with the exception of isolated spotty shower activity. Thats a possibility as well as a rolling thunderstorm later on today. Not a washout for sure but the clouds are coming back into the forecast later on this afternoon as that daily heating builds, we cant rule out the possibility of an isolated thunderstorm just moving right on through the area and as we take you all the way through tomorrow, clouds remain overnight tonight into early tomorrow, we will have sunshine tomorrow, just clouds thickening as we get closer to the afternoon hours and we move you through sunday afternoon and we get that same pattern where we get the possibility of isolated shower activity, maybe even a late day thunderstorm rolling through as well. We do get a cold front coming in monday into very early tuesday and we are looking for lower temperatures come tuesday and a dip in our humidity, but until then we really have to hang on with that oppressive heat and humidity. Local 54 says 99 of its trop members accepted the agreement but did not disclose the terms. An Atlantic City woman is suing taco bell saying she found it difficult if not impossible to order at the chains drivethru windows. The woman is deaf and had to write down her order. She says in march an employee at a taco bell in Atlantic City handed a note back to her and then she was ignored. Back in january she claims an employee in pleasantville told her orders are placed at the front of the drive through. She recorded video of that exchange. We are taking a live look here at the shore in cape may and this steamy weather might have you thinking about heading out on to the water but authorities are reminding you that there are rules that cant be ignored just like if youre driving a car. It comes following a pair of tragedies this month on jersey shore waterways. I talked with the coast guard about staying safe. Being safe on the water is key for pete and Debbie Pasquarello but they say way too many other boaters make ways dangerously. We see a lot of people really not paying attention, you know, or theyre just hot dogging it and going faster than they should be. The police are urging boaters and jet skiers to use caution and know what youre doing safely. Before you get under way you need to make sure youre familiar with whatever youre taking out. Last weekend a hainesport father was killed in a boating accident and over fourth of july weekend a man and his tenyearold son from horse heads, new york, died in a jet ski crash in summers point. Both incidents remain under investigation. Its heart breaking, you know, it shouldnt happen. The coast guards app has lists of required equipment including life jackets plus checks and tests. Theres a lot of hazards going into it that people dont realize and thats why were out here trying to educate people. Especially in hot weather like this the coast guard says its crucial that you have plenty of water on board, just in case your journey louisianas longer than expected. On that occasion where your boat breaks down, your electronics go out, you dont have a radio, it could be hours, 10, 12 hours before youre actually located. Another reminder, dont operate a boat unless youre sober. Authorities say the most frequent contributing factor in boater deaths is alcohol. And what we find so special about this English Manor style home is the interiors. The owner put quite a lot of thought and effort behind the design. And the outcome is beautiful. Its an eclectic mix of color, texture, and finishes. The creativity spreads across virtually every space in every room. Take a look. But at the same time they feel connected and flow from one to another. I love to mix and match styles, and thats what i did here at the entryway. For the lighting, i mixed industrial and french imperial. I wanted to use a little white on the walls in order to brighten up the home and have a place to display my art. Another theme you will see throughout the house is my use of metals. In this room, i used them on the light switches, in the wall art, and in the brass bench under the stairs. Just over the entryway, there is this fun little room i like to call my conference room. I started with a white base and added a lot of pops of color, which can be seen in the chairs, in the mural, and in some of the wall decorations. And i designed this table with a cool little feature, where you can push on the center of the table and have a place to plug in your gadgets. But my favorite feature in this room is this fireplace. I love how it transitions as if it spills onto the wood floors. What used to be three separate rooms and now combined makes any chefs dream kitchen. In this room, i used a number of different materials. I used italian mutina tiles on the floor. And for the cabinets and island, i used a mix of modern metals and classic woods. And finally, i had a graffiti artist design our kitchen table. I thought it would be an interesting way to introduce art to my children. As you can see, our family room is bright and colorful, perfect for our family to gather together. In this room, i created this fun library with a little reading nook. My kids like to play table games here. Another other playful element in this room is this beautiful lighting, which resembles clouds floating in the sky. I find nature very relaxing. It can be seen in the wallpaper, the willow chandelier, and in the night stands, which i designed. This master bathroom is hollywood regency meets mid century modern. My goal here was to create a chic, luxurious experience. This was accomplished by my choice of floor tiles, the custom makeup vanity, and the soaking tub, which enjoys gorgeous views. Hes been featured on george to the rescue and hgtvs Million Dollar contractor. Well, today hes taking us on a tour of a renovation project he recently completed on the Upper West Side. Hi, im gordon khan, a new york based architect. Welcome to one of my favorite projects. This is a three bedroom apartment located on the Upper West Side of manhattan, one of the most sought after neighborhoods in the city. When you first enter the apartment, you arrive in this entryway. And it has the most classic city view you could imagine, the American Museum of natural history. This apartment was filled with original details that required restoration. Our challenge was to restore those details while at the same time introducing new ones. For instance, these windows were painted over and sealed shut. We discovered them during the course of the renovation. We cleaned them up, and we made them operate again. One of the new elements that we introduced was this glass banister. One is able to walk into the apartment and fully embrace this view. Its unusual to have double height spaces in a new york city prewar apartment building. And its really quite magnificent. However, at the same time, it presents challenges. When a space is this high, people dont always feel comfortable sitting in it. So i incorporated horizontal lines. One example of this is the top of the stair rails. These horizontal lines give the room itself scale. I adjusted this opening to align with the one beyond and with the window beyond that so that it would open up the view to the entire apartment. This room was rich in original detail, which weve completely restored. These windows not only allow additional light into the dining room, but they also give you a glimpse into the entry foyer, again allowing a vista from space to space to space. Despite opening up the room to the view, the room is still quite dark. We created beams in the spirit of the original design, and into those beams we recessed lighting to light the perimeter of the room. The goal of our work here was not just to be true to the original architecture, but also to create a comfortable Gathering Place for the family. Like the dining room, this is an interior space. The challenge is getting light into it. We used light cabinets and glass tile. In the spirit of old and new, this tile is sized to be identical to the subway tile that would have originally been in this apartment. For the kitchen countertops, we chose quartzite. Its light reflective, very durable, and its natural. You dont have to use synthetic countertop materials. In manhattan, where spaces are constricted, its so important to create vistas from room to room and from within the apartment to the outdoors. It makes spaces that much lighter and that much more livable. Thank you for coming today. Located in the heart of west chelsea, this modern lightfilled space was a perfect backdrop for me to explore my design style. Welcome to my home. This is an open floor plan, with the seamless flow between the kitchen, dining room, and living room space. But what i most love about this space are the floortoceiling windows. I wanted to keep the sight lines open. As you walk into the room, you feel like youre outside while youre are indoors. I kept the furniture low to the ground, which adds to the openness of the room. The key Color Palette throughout the home is monochromatic. As you can probably already tell, i love black and white. And whats great about this gray couch is that it has a little bit of both. It is neutral enough for me to switch around accent pillows to cater to the season. Cottons for spring and woolen pieces for the fall. Before living here, i never had open shelving, but now im a true convert. You see it in the kitchen and in the living area. But the key is to keep it carefully curated. Whether its plates, books, or things from our travels, you should consider what you put on there as wall art, because everyones going to see it. But remember, keep it neat. A messy shelf has a tendency to overwhelm the space. Moving on to the dining area, we had this liveedge dining table custom built for us. The dark walnut wood gives the space an organic feel and is in contrast to the brushed metal base. We headed south for our final stop today to charleston, South Carolina. We stop by whats widely considered to be one of the citys oldest homes. It was built in 1712, and has seen the entire city grow around it. And come to think of it, the entire nation. But if thats not enough, its also on the National Register of historic places. The owner takes us on a tour. Hello. Im andrew drury of carolina one real estate. Welcome to charleston. Im excited to show you one of the most significant houses in the entire city. So follow me. Come on. This georgian style home with built in 1712, 20 years before the birth of george washington. Theres even the original carriage stone and the two hitching posts. Its known as a colonel William Rhett house, after its builder and original owner. The property is a half an acre, including the main house and two carriage houses. Lets take a look at the main house. One of the distinguishing characteristics of Charleston Homes are its piazzas to catch the sea breeze. Right here youll notice something very charleston. These are called jalousies. They were part of the entrance of piazzas to provide privacy. Another distinguishing charleston characteristic is this joggling board. In the old days, a woman would sit on one side, a man would sit on the other, and they bounced until they met in the middle. This home is on the National Register of historic places. And its georgian features greet you the moment you walk in. Characteristics like the carpenter lock, this mahogany banister. Another interesting feature is this newel post and the mortgage button. The folklore was that youd receive this button after you paid your mortgage off. And you would put it on the top of your newel post to let everyone know that your home was debt free. Follow me into living room. This is the largest room in the house. And its a great place to entertain or just put your feet up with a good book by the fireplace. Twelvefoot high ceilings with intricate dentil molding and wainscoting surrounds the room. When the weather is this nice, we spend a lot of time outdoors. And looking around, its easy to see why. Spread out over half an acre, are five separate garden rooms, each with their own purpose, designed by worldrenowned landscape architect, umberto innocenti. The overall effect is organization, tranquility, and of course beauty. The first room was designed for herbs and medicine. The center room is perfect for outdoor parties and could easily handle 300 people. And the elliptical curve in the parterre is perfect for a band. We call this the oak forest, and it leads to the formal garden. And this is known as the garden of the four seasons. Out here, you feel like youre in your own private park. So there you have it.
