And muggy, get ready for today it will feel even hotter. If youve stepped outside so far this morning you will know that is true. Good morning and welcome to nbc 10 news today, im katy zachry. Just after 6 00 a. M. On your hot and muggy saturday. Lets get started with first alert meteorologist karen thomas with your neighborhood forecast. Hot and muggy, i like the way you go with that description, yes, hazy conditions, areas of fog this morning, but heat and humidity will be continuing today. Scattered showers and the possibility of some thunderstorms later today. Temperatures right now on the warm side, 72 degrees in Atlantic City, we have 73 in vineland, 73 in philadelphia. And close to the mid 70s here in wilmington, 75 in dover. And we do have that humidity out there, dew points are kind of high. We do have a lot of moisture in the area, you know, even if youre not having rain in your neighborhood, its feeling quite steamy out there. As i mentioned areas of fog developing just simply because we have so much moisture in the atmosphere. Were watching a cold front building out here to the west, were seeing the energy out front of that expected to move through west to east today and thats where we could get the potential for some scattered isolated shower activity, even some strong storms building and moving through later on today. So if you happen to be at the beach and you hear some rumbles of thunder, you want to take that seriously and get off the beach and make sure you stay safe. For now were just kind of keeping an eye on this frontal system thats developing as it gets set to make its way through. If youre heading out early this morning be careful on area roadways simply because we do have some patchy fog out there and some low visibility in some areas. Your sevenday forecast is at the bottom of the screen and i will be back to talk about a cut in humidity, a little more comfortable condition for tomorrow. Katy. Karen, we like to hear that. Researchers at the university of delaware say the storms high tide caused significant shoreline erosion. They hope what they discovered may help predict and model how future storms will behave. Now your nbc 10 first alert neighborhood weather. And it isnt so bad to be watching those pictures of snow from the wintertime as we come out of this heat wave, but we are looking for heat and humidity to continue today, hazy conditions at this hour, low cloud cover. We are looking for the possibility of some afternoon thunderstorms, scattered showers throughout the day. The good news here, dryer by tomorrow. Tomorrow is actually looking like the best way of the weekend, we just have to sort of grin and bear it through today. Sun and clouds in some starts of the region. The heat will persist. 90, 91 degrees in the city. Temperatures on the warm side heading out at this hour early this morning. Radar showing that we do have just some spritzers up here just to the north, some isolated scattered showers moving through, we will go wider and show you there is rain activity on the map. We have a cold front that will be building and pushing west to east through our area. So basically all day we can anticipate the possibility, a good potential for some scattered showers and then the potential for some storms later on today. Future cast will put it into motion and show you hour by hour, cloud cover staying with us. You can see here by the model that we do have the potential this is at 1 30 this afternoon for some stronger heavier rain cells to be moving through the area. May not be range in extreme delaware or south jersey but could be raining northwest of philadelphia. Just an active hit or miss scattered shower day with the potential for some heavier cells in there. Right now weve got meteorologist erika martin who is out on the patio talking to us about areas of fog. You want to take it easy driving out there early this morning, right . Thats right. You have to wait for all of this to mix out. Visibility is poor, not the best right now. Improving, however, as the sun comes out. Another issue we have right now of course as you mentioned would be that mist and those winds right behind me. You can see those branches waving around, thats because the winds are starting to kick up ahead of that frontal boundary you just mentioned as well. We have to deal with the patchy fog that will mix out as the sun progresses, but look right now, visibility is poor in hazel ton, 5 miles, quakertown 6 for you and pottstown 7 mile visibility. Again, thats something to think about early this morning. Give yourself a little extra time for that commute. Once the sun comes out it will look a lot better. The clouds will stick around, the threat of isolated storms for parts of the area. But again i have to just say that its a little chilly simply because were talking about that cold front moving through with those winds kicking up, sometimes we have to take that into consideration, evaporational cooling. A couple of goose bumps right now. Otherwise just waiting for the sun to come out by tomorrow. Back to you in the studio. Thank you for those conditions and the update out there, erika. Indeed the heat and humidity later on today. You just want to go ahead and maybe take along the umbrella. Were going to stay i just want to show you the temperatures from the past couple of days. Indeed a heat wave and well go ahead and show you our tenday forecast. Its looking like tomorrow theb better day, we will have High Pressure building in here, not so much a cool off, but you will feel the difference because the humidity, the dew point will drop a bit. Sunday feeling a lot better than today as well and then that High Pressure stays with us, were looking for all sun monday, tuesday, looking pretty good. Then watch what our temperatures do. We should be at about 87 degrees for a High Temperature this time of year, i realize were mid summer, but, boy, we jump back up into the 90s and we stay there according to our tenday all the way across into next weekend. So get ready. Feeling a lot like summer. Karen, thank you for that. Coming up next on nbc 10 news today, using robots to kill. Doppler showing that we just have a lot of moisture in and around the area. Sun and clouds will be the call for today. Really depends on where you are. The further south you are you squeak out a little bit of sunshine, but northwest and west of philadelphia staying mostly cloudy even though the humidity will be pumped up we expect moisture to really sort of hang around. We will take it wider and show you doesnt look like a lot of action here but a cold front will be sweeping through from the west and as it does we are anticipating some scattered shower activity throughout the day and possibly afternoon thunderstorms and some of those storms could have heavy rain cells embedded and could drop some quick flash rain as it quickly moves through the area. Earlier about an hour ago or so we were watching this system right here move through North Central pennsylvania, it had lightning and thunder with it with heavy rainfall. Looks as though its dry right now but we have a lot of moisture in the air and scattered isolated showers up here west of allentown. It doesnt look like there is a lot of action happening out here to the west, but energy is building and we do anticipate a cold front moving through the area for our saturday. And so clouds will prevail. Some sunshine, peeks of sun especially to the south, but clouds the majority of the region. Here we have our future cast, 9 00 a. M. We can show you this particular weather model showing isolated scattered shower activity even for the Morning Hours moving through the area. Some heavier cells setting up out here to the west and pushing through. Weve got some stronger cells here in interior south jersey, parts of central delaware, this is this afternoon 2 00 p. M. You can see how broken the system is and how scattered and isolated the shower activity really is. Tonight 8 30 this particular model has heavier rain cells pushing through north of philadelphia, parts of trenton, areas to toms river moving to the east out here in Atlantic City and then just pushing right through the coast here this evening. So as we said its a quite dicey weather system as the cold front makes its way through. By tomorrow morning should clear out and we are looking for clearing skies for our sunday. So theres the good news, as High Pressure builds in for us there but we just have to get through today. Today is sort of a mixed bag, its going to depend on where you are. Right now meteorologist erika martin is out on our patio with the Current Conditions outside. Feeling any cooler out there, erika . Blue bell 4 mile visibility along with trenton and summerville a little better at 8. Take your time driving, everything will improve. All right. Thank you so much for the update. We will take a look at our tenday forecast just to give you a picture of where things are headed.
