This belongs to a producer, and she said, give it back to me, i need it to get back and forth. You need this, you should have them. You cant just show up at a station today expecting to get one of these for a train. This morning, nbc 10 is live in the Fort Washington station, a station bringing people into center city to see the pope today. Whats it looking like out there . Reporter well, last count, this was the most ticketed station of all 18 septa stations bringing people in. We can tell you, two trains have departed for center city a little less than 100 people. You talked about the pay poll passes. Take a look. If you know the train station, this is a huge parking lot. You cant get on the ground here unless you have a papal pass. You cant park here unless you are a special needs individual that needs parking or a volunteer. All the people you see out there right now are volunteers. There are not even any pmgs on the platform as the train just departed here a few minutes ago headed into the city. Weve talked to a number of people who say they are headed into work. We spoke to a couple that is originally from south america, they arrived here in the Fort Washington area last night, and they were first in line for the train that departed minutes ago. Also, over my shoulder here, you see the Ticket Office here is turned into a command post, you have people in there from septa, various Police Departments, and all of the Police Officers in there coordinating as well as commanders from septa police and tons of volunteers from septa. People are showing up here, setting up tables with food and water. I talked to volunteer who said so far the fact we had just less than 100 people show up is a nice warmup, but, again, they expect thousands here at the train station. Not sure if you can see it, maybe when the suns up more, we have a papal cutout. The card board cutout is here to greet visitors when they arrive here. At this point, though, more volunteers than passengers and number of excited people departed minutes ago. Back to you. Its going to be packed today, thanks. So 9 30 this morning, thats when the popes plane touches down in philadelphia. The red carpet will be rolled out as you expect, but hes not flying into the airport like you would, but flying into Atlantic Aviation, a separate terminal at the airport there since the 1 1950s, all the sports team use it. Used for corporate or private planes. This is a terminal that the president uses when he flies into phillie for visit, and when the popes plane lands this morning, hes greeted by the arch bishop, governor tom wolff and their wives, and members of the world meeting of families will be there. So here is the schedule for the pope after the landing at the airport. At 9 45, the motorcade leaves for the cathedral basilica of saints peter and paul. The mayor arrives just after 10 00. Mass should begin about 40 minutes later, and after the mass, the pope is headed to Independence Hall where hes giving a speech on religious freedom and also immigration. That is scheduled to start just after 4 00, and them at 6 45, the pope arrives at the parkway where hell hope in the pope mobile for a papal parade. From the art museum to city hall and back. The holy father wraps up it with festival of families, special guests include actor mark wahlberg, and aretha franklin. By 9 00, the pope should be on the way to seminary to stay overnight. Well, priests, religion, and parrish members with tickets to attend the mass at cathedral this morning are gathered at Villanova University right now. Heres the pictures sent to us, priests and nuns arrived hours ago. This particular group is from newman university, waiting to board busses to take them to mass. A big surprise for a group from kentucky who arrived last night ahead of the popes visit. 50 parishioners from a Catholic Church in Bowling Green are here after securing a donated bus and a synagogue offered them a place to stay. Now, they thought they would watch the weekend events on a jumbotron in the parkway, but last night, they learned all have tickets to tomorrows papal mass on the parkway. We are very excited. Theres many of our group have never done anything like this. They have not been to the east coast, even less a synagogue or the opportunity to see pope francis. The world meeting of families, families, the world meeting of families, they donated those tickets, very nice. Make sure you download the nbc 10 app right now. We have Live Team Coverage of the popes visit to philadelphia, and its now three hours before the pope touches down in the area. Yeah. Its been so long, waiting for this, hard to believe its here. Counting down to the holy fathers arrival. Pope francis is expected in philadelphia in just about three hours from now. Now, the popes plane is expected to land at Atlantic Aviation at 9 30 this morning, and from there, the motorcade takes him to the cathedra basilica of saints peter and paul near logan square. The pope celebrates mass at the cathedral basilica at 10 30. 2,000 people packed in for that, and after that, the motorcade takes him to st. Charles Borromeo Seminary to stay while in town. Heres the schedule. The plane scheduled to depart from new york city at 8 40 this morning, touches down at 9 30, and the mayor and governor will greet the pope. At 10 30 this morning, again, the pope celebrates mass at the cathedral basilica of saints peter and paul, then seminary for a rest, and later today after 4 00, the pontiff delivers an address at Independence Hall, and tonight at 7 30, visiting the festival of families on the parkway before retiring for the night back in the seminary. Yeah. Matt is stationed outside the basilica on the phone with us. Matt, tell us what you see there, whats going on right now . Caller well, we came out here a half hour ago, and i was walking up the parkway, it was really an eerie sight before the Security Check point, all streets blocked off right now looks like a ghost town. Walking down chestnut, and there was just no one out there, no one walking around, but then you get over here to the parkway, and you start seeing people that have already lined up, just all the way up to the basilica here along the parade route with the upbo tron and bottles of water offered to the folks out here because they plan to be here for quite a while. You see the basilica right there. So a lot of these folks have a front row seat for when the poem arrives this morning. I can tell you, i do expect to see more of a crowd here at this hour. I was in washington a couple days ago, and by this hour, there were at least a few thousands people all lined up waiting to see the pope come out of the capital building. Right here you see most of the crowds just lined up at this point, and so this is what theyve been doing, some of them are camping out. They have blankets, they have food, and they are lounging out, just waiting for pope francis to make his arrival here to philadelphia later on this morning. Matt, what about the security . Whats the presence like of the National Guard and others out there . Reporter well, pretty much everywhere you turn there are security guards, Police Officers, uniformed, and i imagine officers that are not inup form patrolling the streets out here. You see out there in the distance theres a golf cart going around here. We just saw three or four busses with a Police Escort up here. When i walked in the Security Check point about a half hour ago, it was pretty much empty, walked right up, tsa is manning the check points that you go through with a metal detector, take everything out of the pockets, and they go through, even your cell phone, they make you turn it on just to make sure it is a working cell phone so they are being very thorough around here this morning, but at this hour, it really is not too bad, and in terms of the crowd, just what youre seeing out here, at this hour, what now, three hours before pope francis lands in philadelphia, and at this point, its pretty smooth going out here. I walked through probably no longer than a minute and a half to get through security, and i was inside. All right, matt, thank you. Well check back with you. Reporter all right. Thank you, matt. If youre in the philadelphia suburbs takining septa, these a worth their weight in gold. You had to buy them weeks ago. You cant show up today expecting to get a train. Not all the stations are open. We are live at the Fort Washington station in Montgomery County where two trains left the station already, and you talked with some people on the way to center city. Whats the feeling there . Reporter oh, they are very excited. Take a look. This is train number three headed into center city. We had two ceo press trains that have not stopped here, but take a look, we have 200 to 250 people who so far departed from here alone, here in Fort Washington, Montgomery County, this trags station is the most ticketed train station of the 18 Regional Rail stations that are taking people into center city this morning. This train just arriving here getting ready to depart. The way they do it is people line up here and the other side of the train station, come underground up on the platform, and when the train gets here, they board waiting until everyone on the platform is on the train. If the train is full, people have to wait for the next one. So far good news thats not happened yet this morning. People have got on the trains. Once it moves out, you see the other side of the train station, but, first, listen to what some of the people had to say just before they boarded this train. We told you minutes ago, tracy, they are very excited, and many have tickets to get very close to the pope. Excited . Yes, definitely. Reporter its going to be a long day for you . How old are you . Im turning 10 next month. 10 next month. Do you think youll see the pope today . Yes. Reporter what if you got to see him and talk to him, what would you say . Well, i would say, well, thanks to coming to philadelphia and all that stuff. Reporter are you hoping to see him . Where are you stationed all day . Well bed pretty close because we got the world family tickets and also additional tickets to the papal mass. So we are weve scored big. Reporter scoring big, thats what some of the people have told us here. Many people managed to get tickets to the mass to the festival of families this evening. That group you saw from the Chestnut Hill wind moore area got the tickets, and they are fortunate to be at the event. You see the parking lot there and where police and many, many volunteers are staging and where people are lining up. Theres two women walking towards the tent where they will be checked to ensure they have the papal passes. You cant get on the grounds here unless you have a Regional Rail oneday papal pass to get you into the city. Over here, we have inside the ticketing office,ed into a command post. You see many representatives there from several suburban Police Departments as well as septa police and state officials making sure that everyone runs smoothly here. If you take a look here, this is the underground ramp that people will travel underneath the tracks here to get or underneath the station to bring them up here, and theyll board on this platform. The next train leaving Fort Washington in about 30 minutes. Were going to talk to the passengers, and youll hear what they are saying coming up in a bit. For now, we are live, nbc 10 news. Deanna, thank you. Get the nbc 10 app. Download it right now, especially if youre going to see the pope or need to around town today. Everything you need to know about the visit, the road closures, mass transit changes, and, also, a list of things you cannot take with you if youre going to the parkway. Important to know. And sky force 10 over center city, bus loads of folks headed to the basilica in Center City Philadelphia, and weve got sky force 10 hovering over the city and will be out and about throughout the day. There are one, two, three, four, five of the busses right there in center city, and it doesnt look to be a lot of traffic out there. And i dont know i hate to interrupt you, but i dont know if theyre the busses from Villanova University, but we had women lined up, nuns, religious leaders, who had the tickets gathered at Villanova University very early in morning, lined up, and they were all taking busses in, so these could be some of those busses. Yeah. And they are getting Police Escorts there in front and back, tracy, so it may very well be those busses that headed from Villanova University. Now, if you are headed to the Ben Franklin Parkway or Independence Hall to see pope francis, heres a list of things the u. S. Heres a live look from sky force 10, a field medical tent set up for problems with the huge crowd that is expected along the parkway, and weve heard from nbc 10 that some people have already started to show up, perhaps, catch a look at the pope, and we have that live picture of all the busses making their way winding their way through center city to go to the basilica, and i was texted by Three Friends of mine on those busses they arrived at the cathedral. Very exciting for them. Very nice. Make you have the nbc 10 app with everything you need to know about the papal visit. The road closures, specifically, also any mass transit changes, and, also, if you plan to go, we have a list of the things that you cant take with you to the parkway, so you dont want to be turned away or have things thrown away, so 1 Million People are expected to flood center city this weekend to see the pope. The closer to the Ben Franklin Park wway you get, of course, the better the chances are to catch a look of the holy father. We have a birds eye view from the 18th floor of the Embassy Suites. Security was tight this morning as we expect. Reporter it was a little tight getting in, but, honestly, two be expected. I certainly went through and experienced this this week in washington, so it was no surprise to me. For folks who may be experiencing this for the first time, if they were not new york, were not in washington, think about what you need to bring with you or cant bring with you when you get in through airport security. I took video on the ipad, making my way from the house in old city. We have some of that for you to see, just for an idea of what experienced. Heres what, i got to fourth and arch, get in at the check point at fourth and market, and i was told by the secret there, that fourth and market was not ready yet. This was two hours ago. Im sure now its up and running. I made the way up to 12th and market, got there by secret service there, they had a dog there sniffing through my bags, no problems, and i was able to get through at 12th and market because i had Media Credentials on. I made the way around city hall figuring i could get up to the suites. They said, you crossed into whats considered a dirty zone meaning its not an area that is secure in terms of people who have been checked, so i had to go all the way around the check point to broad and once there, no problems, was able to get through easily and quickly. Not a line. Everyone was friendly, tsa secret service, so, again, you may have to go through a few check points to get to where you need to be, so, for example, if youre getting dropped off, lets say in old city, getting a shuttle to old city from the navy yard, you may get through the fourth and market check point, but to get to the parkway, you may have to go over to the broad and race, cherry check point as well. Keep that in mind. Live from the Embassy Suite overlooking the parkway, im roastmary connors, nbc news. She took that ipad along for the nice pictures of the security tent, like the olympics i covered over the years. Oh, right. Speaking a security, this is a live picture from sky force 10 over a line of people trying to get through security to get into the francis festival grounds. Perhaps get oh, right outside the cathedra basilica of saints peter and paul for an upclose look when the pope arrives, scheduled to leave new york within the hour and arrive at Atlantic Aviation, and hell make his way to the cathedral to celebrate mass.
