Lifethreatening situation continues to unfold in texas. First alert meteorologist krystal klei is tracking harvey, and she also has our neighborhood forecast. Yeah, its hard to look at this imagery because its the same picture we have been seeing all of our morning hours. The problem with that is these heavy bands of rain, the armbands of Tropical Storm harvey, well, their just stuck right over the houston area. As a result, these are the areas that are dealing with catastrophic lifethreatening flooding this morning. The center of the storm is to the south of austin. You can see there, so all the eastern half thats getting the major impacts. This is going to be the biggest problem, the one that goes down in history books. The flooded associated with the never ending rain thats in sight as we move forward. The problem is, like i mentioned, this system has been stuck in the same spot all night long. Its moving about 45mileperhour sustained winds, but the Actual Movement of the storm center itself, only 1mileperhour, meaning its really not moving, so this area is under a major flood threat. Check out the projected pathway as we go through the next several days. It will sit almost in the exact same location for at least two more days. And that in lies the problem. For us, a very different forecast. Mostly high clouds out there right now. Temperatures comfortable this morning and an even better afternoon moving forward. Devastation and anguish swamping southeastern texas along with flooding rain from Tropical Storm harvey. But there is also hope with rescue and relief teams, some from our area, on their way to help the victims of this deadly storm. Heres what we know this morning. At least two deaths are confirmed and at least a dozen people have been injured. Harvey, that roared ashore late friday night as a category four hurricane, has weakened to a Tropical Storm, but catastrophic flooding is now a reality. Forecasters say some areas of southeastern texas could get more than three feet of rainfall. Local authorities are beginning to assess the to homes, buildings, and roads. More than 300,000 people without power. Take a look at this video. A man and screamed for help as they waded through waistdeep flood water in houston. Buildings and homes are submerged. People who decided to stay instead of evacuate are now in danger. I was on my knees praying that we made it. Pretty scary. It felt like 150mileperhour winds. It was whipping pretty good. We have also learned some of the sickest patients of two area hospitals were moved via caravan by ambulances to facilities west of the storm zone in austin and san antonio. Heres more new video just in from houston. You can see people wading through high flood waters. But you have to wonder about the drivers who really took big risks trying to navigate through streets that resembled creeks. From the ground to earths orbit we go. Youre looking at harvey from the International Space station. Nasa cameras caught this clear view of the storms eye yesterday as it swirled over southeastern texas. With the storm weakening, the eye is now pretty much gone. Right now, more philadelphia firefighters are headed to texas to join search and rescue efforts linked to Tropical Storm harvey. Nbc10 was in northeast philadelphia around 00 this morning when First Responders with the Pennsylvania Task force loaded up tractor trailers with equipment and supplies before rolling south. We originally told we were going to have a Mission Specific package that was going to be sent down there. Then fema has notified us that were going to go with a typethree deployment, which is the second largest deployment. You can see the convoy of task force tractor trailers on the move. The first group of firefighters from philadelphia left for the flood zone on friday before harvey made landfall as a hurricane. A Philadelphia Public School teacher is facing charges this morning after police say he went too far during a heated protest. Cell phone video shows john sheeren cursing at police during a protest august 16th over the rizzo statue in center city. On friday, officers arrested sheeren and charged him with making terroristic threats and harassment. The Philadelphia School district says sheeren had been removed from his job at julia deburgeose elementary before this incident. Theres a way to get your voice heard, and thats not the way. We went to sheerens home and made numerous calls trying to get his side of the story but we did not get a response. Happening right now, hundreds of people are on the move. They started up in willow grove on friday, and they made their way through chestnut hill, into manayunk. Today, if you want to catch them, you cant miss them. Theyre all wearing pink. Youll see them in center city, to old city, down to the navy yard. That 60mile walk will end there. For a lot of these people, its been a difficult trek. Rough terrain in parts of philadelphia, but getting to the finish line and raising thousands and thousands of dollars will make it worth it. We went down a treacherous rock path, and i believe the state park, and it was a doozy, to say the least. It was definitely scary, but like i said, its for a good cause. You power through the pain. Everything goes numb after a while, so you power through and ignore it. Got it. They said that trip through the park as well as the hills of manayunk and rocksboro were some of the most difficult parks. Again, today be pretty easy. Cars are stuck in water up to and over their hoods. Look at that. This video was taken overnight in and around houston. The rain is still days away from ending. More than 1,000 rescues have been carried out overnight in houston, and people are being told to get onto their roofs if the highest floor of their homes become flooded. Sarah dallof is live in galveston, which is about 90 minutes south of houston. Sarah, so much rain and so much more rain is still expected on top whats already come down. Yeah, it just never seems to stop, ted. Here in galveston, we had 24 inches in 24 hours. This is because harvey is such a slow moving system, compared to other systems. Its forecast to move about 60 miles in the coming days. And its expected to drop rain on these towns all the way. This morning, little relief. Ten years of my life gone. For texas communities hit hard by harvey. The storm phspinning slowly inland, bringing heavy rain and leaving heartbreak. The devastation i see today is disheartening. It hurts. But we are resilient. We will clean it up, rebuild, and be perfect again. In rockport, texas, where an estimated 40 of residents opted not to evacuate, wide spread devastation and at least one death. A library and Church Destroyed in the town of fulton. Its a beautiful thing for people to come together and forget everything thats bad and come together as a Strong Community and help. Stories of heroism emerging. Coast guard helicopters rescuing 15 people aboard vessels in distress. First responders are absolutely putting their lives on the line. Cleanup begins. Ia can see the town. The rains continue. Battering floodprone houston. The power of Mother Nature on display across southeast texas. The situation in houston continues to deteriorate. The 911 system is so loaded right now. Officials are asking people to call only if their lives are in imminent danger. As you mentioned, the coast guard is now involved and theyre rescuing people as we speak. How are they going about doing that . Reporter well, this is part of their urban search and rescue team. They have five helicopters in houston right now. They say they have received more than 300 requests for assistance. The coast guard is now requesting Additional Air support from new orleans. Rr amiring this may become one of the worst flooding occurrences well see in our history so far. Were looking at so much its going to continue to fall over the next several days. So heres a look at radar currently showing Tropical Storm harvey. The center to the south of austin. Where its a more steady rain, although still a good accumulation, but to the east of the center of the storm where the big problem has been. The storm has virtually not moved for the entire night. As a result, this heavy rain, oranges, yellows, those are the armbands. They have been stuck over houston and down to galveston. Notice the movement of the system. Only one mile per hour. All of that heavy cant wobble or mover on to the next location. It continues to dump over one location. The most updated path of the storm is similar to what we have been expecting. That shows through tonight, it still moves almost none throughout the next several hours. And into the evening. Then we go through your monday into tuesday, wednesday, and thursday. Finally starts to track up to the north and it should continue to weaken. You can the wind speeds dropping down as well over the next 24 hours. Good sign that its weakening. Bad is that it continues to dump rain. Some areas could still see another one two feet of rain. So take a look at the forecasted totals from one computer model we use, typically the european model, it shows almost two feet of rain still to come in houston by thursday night. Very dangerous situation for that area. Theyre going to need the help from many people outside of their state. Heres a look at radar and satellite for us. A better off picture. We just have high clouds out there today and today is going to be a nice forecast to get outside. Look at the wide view. Very far from Tropical Storm harvey, and i do not expects the moisture of harvey to get to us. We do see moisture down to the south. This could become a tropical system that does brush the coastline. As for high temperatures, 78 innerten today. The same in lansdale, and in allentown, 78 degrees. Partly cloudy conditions. For voorhees, 79. And upper delaware, just a light breeze.
