Temperatures in the teens this morning and the wind is blowing in the city. Not as strong as yesterday but it doesnt take much when its this cold outside. A 12 mile an hour wind in philadelphia, its down to 7 in millville and 9 miles an hour in allentown. The wind speeds will be lower all day long but unfortunately the temperatures are colder so it feels like 4 degrees right now in philadelphia. Wilmington windchill is zero and the feels like temperature for the mt. Pocono where it is colder and the winds stronger 10 degrees below zero. Nobody is warm this morning. Layer up and limit your time outside. Teens right now for philadelphia, 16 degrees, we will see some sunshine today and we will wind up warmer than it was yesterday afternoon but its going to be a slow warm up. 16 degrees, now 17 at 8 00 and by 11 00 into the low 20s but you can see theres still a little bit of a breeze blowing at 6 miles an hour which doesnt feel bad until you walk out and its 23 then it feels bad. Temperatures will climb for the upper 20s in new jersey, at the shore closer to 30 degrees. Each of the neighborhoods will stay below freezing all day long today and tonight and thats going to lead to some problems for tomorrow morning when were expect to go see some snow, some sleet and possibly freezing rain, at least to start the day. Ive listen monitoring an accident on 95, there were multiple vehicles involved in this crash so i want to start off with this map because it gives you a better idea of exactly where this is. You can see this backup here, again, this is chester, mile marker 4. 7, weve learned there were reports of an overturned vehicle as well as two injuries as well as a result of that accident. Im going to step out of the way and show you what it looks like from our cameras. These are our cameras looking south, this is 95 at upland street. You can see a lot of brake lights there, traffic not moving at all at the moment. Also want to let you know an alternative the septa trolley if you take route 34 normally just keep in mind there is a subtle bus service thats in effect, its because of that fatal fire weve been talking about all morning long between 40th and 61st streets. There is a shuttle thats going to be operating instead of the trolley because of that accident or that fire, rather. 6 03. Lets get to that breaking news. Two fires to let you know about, two fires that were staying on top of this morning. This one in south jersey, this is a birds eye view of a fire that sent two firefighters to the hospital. We are over the scene in ridge road in South Hampton township, burlington county. The fire has been burning for four hours now. As you can see its still not completely under control. They want to make sure they have all the hot spots out. We do have a crew on the ground working to get more information for us, as soon as we have an update we will bring it to you. As rosemary said also breaking this morning another fire, a house fire, this time in West Philadelphia and weve just learned in the last few minutes it turned deadly. Crews did find a body inside on the second floor where theyve been battling flames for the last several hours. Nbc 10s Randy Gyllenhaal is live for us in West Philadelphia monitoring all of that new information. Randy, give us more. Reporter well, firefighters have spent the overnight hours working in this dangerous cold to knock these flames down. Let me show you theyve made a lot of progress. No more smoke coming out of this row home on millick street which is just off the Baltimore Pike in West Philadelphia. I will show you some video from just about an hour ago. We have learned in just the past ten minutes or so that firefighters did find a body on the second floor of the row home here on millick street. Were also told one other person was hospitalized. Neighbors report hearing a lot of screaming before they ran outside to see the blaze here. Firefighters had to knock down a number of active flames, also dealing with temperatures hovering around 15 degrees. Neighbors say its a tragedy. I just heard the people screaming and i just looked out the window and saw the house on fire. Yeah. Reporter you came outside and the firefighters were working out here in the frigid cold. Yes, and that was my first thought. On one of the coldest nights of the year how the fire just started. Reporter and back here live on the Baltimore Pike you can see it starting to ice over from a lot of this water being used to douse the flames. up t hahp again, one person dead, another hospitalized. We are also told that the red cross will be coming to the scene here to assist the families displaced by this row home blaze. Live in West Philadelphia, Randy Gyllenhaal, nbc 10 news. It is 6 05. 16 degrees outside. New this morning three teenagers are under arrest after a shot was fired at Philadelphia Police officers. It happened in an alley just off of the roosevelt boulevard in feltonville around 1 45 this morning. The suspects were wanted in a robbery. Police chased them into the alley after investigators say the teenagers abandoned their car. Investigators also tell us the officers did not return fire after the shot came their way. No one was hurt. Police have recovered a gun at the scene. In south philly a bumper and other car parts were left on broad street after a Police Cruiser crashed into another vehicle. You can see the front end of the cruiser smashed in. The impact was so hard the air bag inside the cruiser deployed. Two officers went to the hospital but they are expected to be okay. The person in the other car was not hurt. Lets head to south jersey where police are investigating a deadly crash involving a car and a tractortrailer. Sky force 10 was over this scene on route 206 over i 95 in borden town. You can see the car wedged just beneath the rig rig. The driver of that car died. Today in Delaware County the man accused of shooting a Folcroft Police officer will appear before a judge for a preliminary hearing. Donte island is set for a court appearance, he is facing charges of attempted murder and other crimes. Authorities say aye land shot officer dorman seven times, it happened while the officer was responding to a report of people smoking drugs in folcroft. Officer dorman underwent surgery and amazingly is now back on patrol. In the next few days we expect to learn whether the mens swimming and driving team at Princeton University will compete in the two final meets of the season. The team is suspended this morning for allegedly posting offensive messages online. The school says somebody filed a complaint after several vulgar, offensive, news oj nis i can an racist comments were discovered in a group email involving the team. The next meet is scheduled for january 7th. In other news this morning a singer who says she was asked to leave a sixers game because of the message on her tshirt she was wearing will be back on the court tonight to sing the national anthem. She posted this video following an incident at a sixers game in october. The sixers ended up apologizing to streeter and invited her back to sing at tonights game. All right. A frigid start, yes, we will see the temperatures climb. We will stay below freezing today. This morning at the bus stop limit the time if you can waiting for the bus. Look at these numbers for exton, quakertown and reading. 12 degrees at 8 00 this morning and not much better in wilmington, philadelphia and even Atlantic City in the teens there. The wind will still be blowing so it will feel a little colder but the wind wont be as strong as yesterday. We will see some sunshine, radar and satellite we are in the clear right now. Once the sun is up just after 7 15 this morning we will get some sunshine. The clouds and the snow will wait until overnight tonight and tomorrow. So dry today and improving conditions but you will have to bundle up all day long. The man known for his wild outfits died yesterday after battling leukemia for nearly the last three years. Sager worked with Turner Sports for more than three decades. He died just days after being inducted into the Sports Broadcasting hall of fame. Chris sager was 65 years old. And tributes are pouring in online including from sixers great allen iverson. This is the worst of it this morning, if youre heading out right now it is a bitter cold morning, the temperatures have dropped into the teens, the wind chills have been hovering in the Single Digits to zero degrees this morning. We will see some sunshine. The temperatures will be climbing but we will be below freezing all day today and tonight, and tonight clouds start moving in, they will arrive during the evening hours, then we will see light snow developing overnight tonight that will change to rain during the day on saturday. Suburbs 14 degrees, 14 now in delaware, 16 degrees in philadelphia and in south jersey dropped to 15 degrees for many neighborhoods. Turnersville, pemberton all at 15 degrees, 13 clayton, princeton at 11 degrees. Thats before you factor in the wind, do that and those all feel like they are in the Single Digits this morning. The good news we will get some sunshine, it is clear outside, thats part of why its so cold, wilmington, philadelphia and trenton we will see sunshine, in fact, its coming up in less than an hour but coming in for the weekend, wet weather, and it will start with some of this. That snow in the ohio valley, that arrives overnight tonight and into tomorrow. Hour by hour forecast shows at 10 00 this morning 18 degrees, still cold at 10 00 this morning. Clouds will move through at times, we will still get some sunshine this afternoon. A look at those temperatures responding into the 20s this afternoon. We will wind up a little bit warmer this afternoon than yesterday but not by much. Fortunately the winds wont be as strong so it will feel a bit warmer this afternoon. Just a few scattered clouds this evening, by 8 00 you will see more of those clouds and the temperatures hold into the 20s as we head into the nighttime hours. This is when we get the first snowflakes. 1 00 in the morning lancaster, reading, into the pocono mountains, doylestown you will see very light snow. We will see a dusting with that first batch but this is more impressive as we go into 6 00 in the morning thats when most of the moisture arrives. That is snow for allentown, pottstown, doylestown and northeast philadelphia. At 6 00 and then a little bit of sleet and freezing rain but mainly rain to the south. Its in the 20s in allentown at 6 00 in the morning, it will be in the upper 40s in cape may and this is the warm air which is going to push through the area changing temperatures will rise above freezing so it will change it over to rain for wilmington, philadelphia and northeast philadelphia. 9 00 still some icing conditions in the Lehigh Valley, those disappear late in the morning as we go in the afternoon. The temperatures will go even higher. A big change on saturday morning from snow to a brief icy mix and then rain. Saturday afternoon we will be drying out. Another round of rain but just rain as the temperatures will be much warmer sunday morning, turning windy and colder later in the day as we finally dry out later on sunday. So plenty going on. We have dangerous cold to deal with today, limit your time outside, bring the pets inside and limit their time outside as well. Layer up if you have to do go out. Snow, sleet, then rain on saturday. And rain returns again on sunday. There will be a break saturday afternoon, but sunday morning rain will linger into the afternoon hours. 62 degrees, that wont last, cold returns later sunday, monday and tuesday, but another warm up next week, we are in the 50s when the next round of rain arrives next thursday. A very cold start to the day and we will be below freezing all day today. The wind will not be as strong as yesterday, but its a 12 mile an hour wind in philadelphia and wilmington a little bit lighter in south jersey and the Lehigh Valley. Enough wind to give us wind chills that are in the Single Digits for most locations. Vineland feels like 5 degrees, zero is what it feels like in wilmington. 1 below in coatesville and 10 degrees below in the pocono mountains. So nobody is warm today. Need to layer up and limit your time outside. That being said you can see the skies are starting to brighten, we will get some sunshine, 14 degrees right now, not pretty at all in the Lehigh Valley, 13 degrees, but with a little sunshine we will start the warming process at 9 00, by noontime into the 20s and this afternoon we will warm into the upper 20s. Another area to avoid the schuylkill at montgomery drive. Both of those vehicles have moved over to the shoulder some help is on the way there this morning but a short time ago those lanes were blocked, there was only one getting by because of this stent. Good news is its moving off to the side of the road but we are still watching that for you this morning. We have an update on the breaking news that he have with been staying on top of t two house fires to let you know about, one of them is in South Hampton township, burlington county, two firefighters are in the hospital, no word yet on their injuries. Crews tell us the flames here are out, but as you can see from sky force 10 firefighters are still on the scene ex tinning wishing hot spots. We also have a crew on the ground, we could certainly see the smoke billowing through the trees. And also breaking this morning as rosemary said another fire, this one in West Philadelphia just a short time ago we did learn that this fire is deadly. They have managed to knock all of the flames down in this row home but as you mentioned we have learned that this is a deadly fire. Let me show you some video here. You can see how much power that the ice has been forming around these neighborhoods as the firefighters have been spraying water, the mist going into the cars and neighborhoods. Firefighters found a body we are told on the second floor of one of these row homes in a back bedroom. They say the body is that of a young man. A 39yearold woman was also taken to the hospital in this blaze. Were told about four homes suffered damage, three of them had fire inside and fire officials on scene tell us they had a lot of difficulty dealing with both the frigid cold as well as heavy winds. Its very cold. You can see were fighting ice right now, all the crews are iced up. There was the wind actually drove the fire as it exited the initial occupancy, drove it into two other adjacent exposures. We ended up having fire in three row houses. Back here live you can see some of the ice forming on the Baltimore Pike. We are told that the red cross is coming to the scene to help the families who have been displaced again. Police say the driver floored the car out of her driveway, slammed it into her neighbors living room and then sped back into her own home with her Adult Children inside. Everyone did escape injury. U. S. Senator bob kasie of pennsylvania will be in philadelphia to discuss ways to help keep children safe from guns at home. Kasie will join Community Advocates and medical professionals at Temple University a little bit later on this morning. Senator kasie is calling for new gun safety laws following the accidentel shooting of a twoyearold boy on thanksgiving in north philly. Police say the childs fouryearold cousin was playing with a loaded gun inside the house when it went off. The toddler was critically wounded, the victims parents are facing charges. Lets head to the jersey shore where police are trying to figure out if there is a connection between two home invasions at retirement communities in ocean county. Dorothy rand who you are just about to meet was 83 and she was thrown to the floor by two men who got into her berkley township home wednesday morning. Her front door was unlocked. The robbers stole money and other valuables before running away. Now, two weeks earlier a pair of armed men posing as delivery workers robbed elderly victims at a different Retirement Community just down the street but in the same township. Rand who lives with her 102yearold mother still pretty shake shaken. Im so good to everybody. What theyve taken my mother other than a scrape to her knee that you see there rand was not seriously hurt. This morning some new jersey lawmakers are accusing governor Chris Christie of trying to get what they call a revenge bill passed. An assembly man and state senator claim that the measure is targeting newspapers that covered christie during the bridgegate scandal. The bill would do away with the law that requires legal noticing to be posted in the papers, those notices make up a large portion of newspaper revenue. A spokesperson for governor christie denies the claim. All right. It is 6 37 right now. Frigid temperatures are you are about to encounter if youre stepping outside for work or school. So limit your time outside, layer up and bring the pets in. There will be more clouds later today, we will be in and out of the clouds, enough sunshine in the Lehigh Valley to warm into the very low 20s at lunchtime and 24 degrees at 2 00. Still a bit of a breeze blowing so it will feel like its in the teens in the Lehigh Valley all day long. New jersey you are looking at wind chills mainly in the teens, peaking at 20 degrees at 2 00 this afternoon when the temperatures will be in the upper 20s, later in the afternoon clouds will be increasing thats ahead of the wet weather coming for tomorrow. Jersey shore 16 right now, even cold at the shore and still in the teens at 8 00 this morning but it will get closer to 30 degrees this afternoon as clouds increase at the shore. For delaware completely dry, you can see the skies are starting to brighten, thats a view from frauly stadium. 14 degrees right now, low 20s at 10 00 but it will still feel like 12 degrees at 10 00 this morning. Then close to the 30 degree mark this afternoon but the wind will still be blowing. So 20 degrees the windchill later today. Dry today but as i mentioned that will be changing tonight. There was a multiple vehicle crash earlier this morning thats been slowing things down quite a bit. Now, were talking about the cold this morning, its causing some issues with septa as well. It will still be cold enough for snow in the Lehigh Valley, there wont be a steady snow falling for much of the area and some icy mix, but that rain, thats whats going to win out. Warm air will be surging into the area by 9 00 in the morning, rain falling in wilmington, philadelphia and trenton with an icy mix in the Lehigh Valley and berks county and snow still falling in the pocono mountains. Then its out of there tomorrow afternoon as temperatures will be well above freezing for the entire area. An inch or less in philadelphia, 1 to 2 inches in the suburbs and 2 to 4 inches possible in berks county and the Lehigh Valley. With some icy mix.
