Drying conditions and clouds thinning in wilmington and philadelphia. Were seeing rain right now. Look at the temperatures. This is why its only been rain this morning for wilmington, philadelphia, northeast philadelphia and into the middle 40s right now in wild wood. No concern of any icing here. We had issued a first alert earlier in the day because of the Lehigh Valley. Seeing a little bit of a mix. That is starting to come to an end. Look at what happens during the day. 40 degrees in philadelphia. Cloudy skies. It will be dry across the area at 8 00 this morning, 43. Look at the southerly winds. Thats going to warm things up. 48 degrees. Start to see sunshine at 11 00. Take a closer look neighborhood by neighborhood when i come back in less than 10 minutes. Moving through the area is fine in terms of drive times but you might want to go a little bit slower out there. Be careful out in upper merion. Diverted around this intersection. Henderson road and south gulph road and shoemaker road. Injuries reported on the scene there. That could be there with an accident investigation for a good part of the morning. Accident in pottstown on new street and south evans street. End here on 422. Cameras on trooper road. We watched the eastbound side for delays in the morning time. Not now. Pam, youve been there in the morning. What are you seeing in the Lehigh Valley . Things moving out . Reporter yeah, things have definitely moved out as bill was talking about. The last few times we saw you there was a slight drizzle. Rain coming down. Thats not the case anymore. Cars out on the roadway this morning and were pointing our camera in this direction because we want to show you theres quite a bit of light there. You can see just how wet and slick those roads are. So expect that when you head out your door this morning youre going to want to take it seriously. Take this into account when you are driving on the roads because we saw an accident. This is video. We were stuck behind this accident on the northeast extension about an hour and a half ago. There were two vehicles involved in this accident. You can see all of the damage to that one vehicle. Luckily everyone at the scene said they were okay, but i can tell you it was snowing in that area at the time of the accident leading up to the accident we saw rain. So again, although we are not in the first alert mode anymore, this morning there is still concern about the grouped and the temperature of the ground which could be quite different than the air temperature itself. Now back out here live you can see some penndot trucks here at the facility that were at in allentown. At this site so far overnight but we do know that penndot started putting crews on at about midnight. They were unable to pretreat the roads with a brine because of all the rain we were experiencing. That would have simply washed it away. They are going to be out on the roads. Theyll look for icy spots and laying down salt in those if you see a truck while youre out this morning no matter what part of the area youre in, youre going to want to give them extra space to allow them to do their jobs as well. Some of the tree tops are also covered. Traffic is moving smoothly. Now if i look at whats on the wind shield, it looks like drizzle but on the highway it is pretty wet out there. Dozens of sirens within a 10 mile radius of the facility will sound for three minutes. They do the test every december and june. Remember, its only a test. Meteorologist bill henley is here with details on the system that is pretty much moving out, right, bill . Yeah, its tapering off. It still looks a little bit damp in easton. Weve seen snowflakes mixing in with the rain. Its only 9 last couple of hours that weve seen changeover. The temperatures are above freezing for just about everyone. The chances of slipping and sliding are pretty limited. I think were going to see quick improvement as the day goes on. There goes the precipitation moving out of allentown, ri richland is moving out nicely. Last few rain drops pushing out of horsham. The rain is on the move as well. You can see its drying out in wilmington and parts of south jersey where it never really got cold. Definitely chilly. 42 degrees. Ten degrees above freezing for south jersey. Holding at 40 in philadelphia. The suburbs just moved up. Now at 37 degrees. Theres still some cooler neighborhoods but its now above freezing nicely for euclid township and west brad ford. Thats holding at 34 degrees. 37 in collegeville and theres no chance of slipping and sliding from icy conditions in these neighborhoods. Not with temperatures like this. Bedminster, still a little bit of a concern at 33 degrees. Just a debris abogree above fre. If youre going to see any accumulations, more likely on a sidewalk or probably a car that has been sitting out overnight. Landon and lees port, mers town at 31 and 33. Right now in bath. There are some areas of light fog that have developed. Blue bell down to 2 1 2 mile visibility. Little misty in allentown. Shouldnt be an issue at Philadelphia International at 5 mile visibility. Only rain in delaware and south jersey. No serious fog there. Little bit of fog and a little bit of rain left but not for much longer. Dramatic change during the day. Opponents of a planned oil pipeline in north dakota are celebrating a victory there. They set off fireworks last night after the army corps of engineers denied the final permit for the pipeline to pass through land. Protesters consider sacred. Those cheers echoed across the protest camp when a decision came down yesterday. Not expecting to see anymore accumulation than the light snow you see on the rooftop. Cape may, only been rain. Most of the area has only been rain. The temperatures are in the 40s right now in cape may. Not as dreary as it was first thing this morning. Rain has started to taper off. The rain is going to be moving out. That will allow these temperatures to climb above freezing in the suburbs. Now 40 degrees in philadelphia. Philadelphia international. Still a few spots, westmount. The rest of the city is in the 40s. Steady rain along the coast line. Just very sprinkly conditions for philadelphia and trenton. Let me show you whats going on. Were still seeing rain move into parts of the area but wilmington is already drying out. We have cloudy skies right now. Those clouds will be thinning out. Were getting some sunshine during the day. Quite a warmup. The rain and snow was falling from allentown into the pocono mountains. The farther north you went, the more snow you saw. Now you can see the snow that is quickly pushing off to the east and the rain is not going to last much longer either. Trenton, a few light rain showers right now. Toms of that rain. Steady light rain is quickly moving off shore. Now cloudy skies for delaware. 40 degrees. 34 degrees in the Lehigh Valley. Clouds are overhead. A little bit of light fog in the Lehigh Valley. Upper merion, south gulph road and were watching the expressway westbound. Traffic moving away from the jersey shore points from route 54. The right lane is closed there. Youll still get by. 42 freeway looks okay. Slowdown in both directions possibly because of the rain there as well. You can see its actually moving up as were talking. Reporter just a little bit of something coming down this morning. I know bill and krystal have been mentioning all of that is clearing out. It certainly is. While the skies may be drying up, the roads certainly are not. Cedar crest boulevard right now, you can see the road is wet. Expect the road to be slick, even icy in some spot. We know penndot put crews on at midnight. We saw a couple of them on the roads this morning. What theyve been able to do is limited because of the rain. The rain meant penndot was unable to pretreat the roads with brian so theyve been hitting icy spots throughout the day and morning. Yes, the rain is slowing, perhaps stopping soon in some areas but in areas of high jeer elevation or where the ground is cooler, expect any moisture on the roadways to be icy. When youre headed out your door, allow yourself plenty of extra time to get where youre going. Really important if you do see one of those penndot crews out salting the roadways, allow them six car lengths to get their work done. We have just passed through upper saucon, lower milford to milford township now. Weve seen a good mix. Most of the neighborhoods weve driven through in the past 30 to 45 minutes have snow coated grass. Weve also run in and out of fog. We have seen school buses rolling. For children waking up wondering, do we have school today . Yes, it looks like in these communities schools will start on time. We have seen a few cars out. Of course, its still dark outside but most of the passage ways are lit by the roads, street lights or holiday lights that are still on at this time of the morning. You must exercise caution because the roads are completely wet even though when you get out, you get in to warm up your car, youre only going to see what looks like drizzle on your windshield but the pavement is definitely wet. It may also have some snow still on it even though the temperatures are rather warm. Still, if the snows coating the grass, you can rest assure that theres some snow on the highway as well. So were going to continue to drive around and monitor the situation and let you know, but the word for the morning is caution. Dont take it for granted as we have our first wintry mix of the season. The School District received a threat. State police are investigating. Staff is still reporting to the district. Katy . Today philadelphia will release the results of its election recount. While thats going on, the effort to recount votes across all of pennsylvania will turn into a federal case. Attorneys for jill stein are expected to be in court. Yesterday philadelphia wrapped up a recount of provisional and absentee ballots. Meanwhile, michigan will begin a statewide recount today. They ordered the process to begin by noon. A recount effort is already underway in the state of wisconsin. Trump Campaign Supporters are fighting those efforts. Its 6 37. Animal rights activists are ready to protest phase two of new jerseys annual bear hunt which begins today. Outrage erupted after this up right walking bear nick named petals in october. They believe petals was targeted. We have new details on sensitivity training for the mummers before they strut their stuff in philadelphia on new years day. Organizers of the mummers parade say club members will undergo Training Session and watch online videos focusing on diversit diversity. City leaders raised questions after a series of controversial displays. One mummer said the parade needs to evolve and rerepresent the full view of philadelphians. There it goes. Just a few light showers in glen side to lower bucks county. Trenton area still seeing rain drops. Drying out in a hurry for westchester, to the north to Lehigh Valley. This is where we saw a rain snow mix. Allentown is 34 degrees. The rain at the shore not lasting much longer. In fact, its already drying out in cape may. So were seeing rapidly improving conditions. And the temperatures are now starting to climb. Its 41 degrees in philadelphia. The suburbs, the Lehigh Valley are seeing the temperatures slowly creep up. So we are out of the danger zone for West Bradford township. Westchester is 38 degrees. Well above freezing in elroy. Warring ton is 38 degrees. Monique mentioned you might see some snow on the grassy spots of the Lehigh Valley. Egrees in bedminster. Rfaces are a little light fog in pottstown and blue bell. This is not going to last as the temperatures climb. Any fog around disappears. Lets track the temperatures as were clouding up. Some temperatures a little bit above average. Lets look at your future temperatures map. As we saw the suburbs, upper 30s. Elsewhere already there. Mid 40s. Forecasting temperatures from the afternoon peeking close to the low 50s across parts of philadelphia, new jersey, delaware even the shore points close to 50 degrees. A little cooler in the suburbs and the allentown area. As we move overnight well start to see the numbers, of course, drop back down. As we move into your tuesday afternoon it will be a cold start. Low to mid 30s are possible across neighborhoods. Well talk more about those temperatures and the next round of rain to move through. Krystal, 20 minutes before 7 00. I heard jessica saying earlier 95 a little busier than it normally is on a monday. Everything is when people are leaving to get to work or school on monday and its raining. Jessica, what are you seeing . The rain causes way more delays than we are used to. 95 around cottman avenue dealing with delays. Thats traffic moving away from center city. Were not usually used to having those delays there. Southbound side is a mess. Earlier disabled vehicle on the lefthand side. Saw that in our cameras. 46 minute drive time. Typically with no volume. At this time without the rain its typically 22 to 25 minutes. Right now you can see that increase almost double what it normally is. 46 minutes from woodhaven road to the vine street expressway. Speeds down into the teens. New accident in new hanover on swamp pike and North Charlotte street. That accident still active out on Henderson Road. Or a portion between south gulph road anddel. A little bit of brake lights when you move further north. For right now the roads are wet sob careful getting on and off of the ramps. One more full update when i come back in ten. Baby on board. After the babys arrival the Southwest Airlines plane made an emergency stop in charleston, south carolina. Medical crews met the flight and took the parents and their bundle of joy to the hospital.
