Abington and its right along Edge Hill Road and limekiln pike. 611, if you usually take 611 towards center city, we are seeing a little bit of a backup, quite a few delays but not necessarily from that accident. This report came in from this accident around 5 13 this morning. This is in cheltenham, cheltenham avenue and tulpehocken street. This is creating a five to tenminute delay but not really affecting traffic in that area. This is vine street expressway, 8th street, eastbound westbound. Travel speeds in the 50s. We look pretty good on the vine. Well see you in a few minutes, francesca. Were continuing to track Hurricane Matthew as its moving up the coast of florida towards georgia and the carolinas. As the sun comes up, we get a better look at the damage so far. Hurricane matthew is a category 3 right now. New numbers to report on power outages, 270,000 people waking up with no power. The eye of the storm is heading toward Cape Canaveral and gusts of winds of 70 miles an hour have been recorded. And heres a live look right now at Downtown West palm beach. Like we said, were stillc waiting for the sun to come up. As you can see, even though its dark, no rain and the palm trees arent blowing like they were before. As soon as we get new pictures showing any sort of damage, well bring those to you. Nbc 10s matt delucia is live at Philadelphia International airport assessing the impact there. What can you tell us . The flights in some parts of florida are canceled because the airports are shut down because of safety reasons. They dont want people in the airports when that hurricane rolls through and causes a lot of damage, potentially to those areas. They want to get people out. There have been evacuations as weve been talking about. That of course counts for the airplanes as well. A lot of people try to get out early. First i want to show you the board here at Philadelphia International. You can see some of the cancellations up there. Mostly canceled flights to orlando and miami. Again, those are the airports that have been shut down because of the storm. Jacksonville also up there as well. Take a look at some of the video from Miami International airport, the miami flights stopped around noon yesterday. You can see the empty terminals and no planes really on any of the runways there. Again, all those planes tried to get out as quickly as possible and tried to clear that area. Orlando stopped operations at 8 00 last night. More than 1,000 flights have been canceled as Hurricane Matthew makes its way through florida. Orlando is not expecting to resume Flight Operations until tomorrow. Miami is hoping to gradually resume flights later on today. They took a lot of the brunt of the storm last night. The cancellations have forced many travelers to change their plans, of course, residents have been forced to make their way out of the state as well. We spoke with some of the people who arrived here in philadelphia and got those last flights out. I was scared because ive never experienced Something Like that. I was kind of excited, i wanted to stay, seec what would happe. I dont know. It was interesting. Interesting of course and more interesting for those who have been stuck in florida and had to find other ways of getting out, either driving or taking other means of transportation. Of course weve already heard that disney world has been closed. That goes to tell you that they are taking this very seriously down there. Here at Philadelphia International, you can see that flights are still in operation throughout the rest of the country. Were not seeing much of an impact here. I looked on the board. Even flights to North Carolina, South Carolina, those flights are still on time. Check your schedules before you head out or for those arriving in. Thats hard to imagine. 11 feet higher than ground, a wave of water. Thats a very real concern. This wind is really picking up right now. So we know that its going to get more severe as we move through the morning. After this thing moves through georgia, thec carolinas, it cod move back around. Matthew is the first category 4 storm in haiti to hit more than a half century. Take a look from above in cuba, showing the scale of destruction there. A procedural problem postponed the vote on wednesday. The extra money would bolster the Transportation Trust fund. Investigators can take a closer look at the new Jersey Transit that crashed into hoboken station now that it is out of the building. Crews towed away the train a week after the crash. Federal investigators released information from data recordings yesterday afternoon. The data shows the train was going 21 miles an hour twice the speed limit when it crashed into the bumper. First alert meteorologist erika martin says the hurricane is expected to make landfall late this afternoon and coming in at an angle which means its taking longer than first expected. Pierce. It blew up around 11 00 last nights awinds whipped palm trees and pounding rain fell. Just listen to that rain and wind there. Its deafening. This video from vero beach where some of the strongest winds have been roared. About two hours ago, a 74 mileperhour wind gust reported. Just this morning, police have issued an alert to people not to leave until police check out everything that is safe. Miami is open but their web page says there are no flights this morning. Ft. We spoke with a couple people who got out just in time. They got here to philadelphia last night. These nurses who cut their conference short. It was crazy. I think everyone was getting there way ahead of the flights. You got there four hours early. They wouldnt let you in yet through the gates we have people still left behind. We were on three separate flights. Those folks were able to get out and get back to philadelphia in time. People are heading out here at Philadelphia International airport. Our area is not being affected by Hurricane Matthew. I just checked flights to atlanta, even parts of North Carolina and South Carolina, those flights are still on time. Philadelphia International Just tweeted out within the last hour or so, suggesting that you do check before you head out to see if your flight is still on time or if it is canceled real quickly, i want to show you this map where you can see the flights that are around here. Happening today, more than 160 peco workers will head south to help restore power thats been knocked out by Hurricane Matthew. The crews will leave from the peco building in delaware county. They go to florida or georgia, depending on where the helpc i needed the most. And new jerseys Task Force One is on its way to florida to help out with Hurricane Matthew. 80 Task Force Members trained in advanced search and rescue techniques will help any victims trapped by storm conditions. 6 36. First responders from philadelphia are headed to florida in what could be a disaster situation in florida. Crews packed up to head is south last night. Members of pennsylvanias Task Force One will help crews in florida with damage caused by matthew. Were preparing for the worst but hoping for the best. Were proud an honored to be going to help with this incident. Although we hope it will make a glancing blow and it wont be as bad as some of the projections indicate. The fire commissioner says the task force is headed to florida but could redeploy northward. I do think well see heavier downpours, especially likely along the shoreline for tomorrow, second half of the day. Lower 70s and then 60s by sunday for the suburbs, seeing that same trend, cooler by sunday and also seeing some rain in the forecast. For tomorrow, otherwise today high and dry, lots of sunshine and temperatures again in the 70s. A wonderful way to en the workweek.
