Weve issued a first alert because of the steamy conditions and the storms moving our way. When i was playing football, our trainers would tell us, drink lots and lots of water. If you start drinking when you get thirsty, its usually too late at that point. Youre already dehydrated if youre feeling thirsty. Which is probably good advice for anybody. When we say get hydrated, drink water even when youre not thirsty. Bill henley will bring us up to speed. Excellent advice. Temperatures in the 70s, humidity is elevated compared to yesterday. This afternoon, were back into the danger zone for philadelphia, the suburbs, new jersey and delaware. The first alert extends into this evening for our area. Thats when hot, humid conditions will make it feel like 98 to 108 degrees this afternoon. Were starting off with readings in the 70s. Not so bad. Scattered clouds in the suburbs. The Lehigh Valley, seeing some scattered clouds right now. No sign of any showers for either area. Clouds will be on the increase at noontime. Its later today that showers and thunderstorms are likely as the temperatures head into the 90s. That brings us to ourc other first alert. That for storms later today, for the Lehigh Valley, berks county, philadelphia, the suburbs, new jersey and delaware, late this afternoon, and this evening, thats the time that i expect those storms to roll through. The potential for some of these storms to produce damaging winds and very heavy rainfall and that could give us a flash flood threat later in the day. Ill go through the forecast hour by hour when im back in a few minutes to show you when the heat takes off and when the storms will arrive. First, Jessica Boyington has an update in the first alert traffic center. A few things going on right now. Were starting off on the schuylkill expressway on the eastbound side around route 1. You can see theres an accident scene right over here. It looks like we have penndot crews in the lefthand shoulder. Brake lights past it. Thats normal morning volume. Another vehicle into the righthand shoulder before they at least come together on those roads. Watching out in Lawrence Township for that overturned tractortrailer on route 1 southbound around 295. We have two lanes closed and the ramp to 95 southbound additionally is closed because of that. They fine ali zoomed our cameras in on the scene. You can see flashing lights up ahead, at least what we can see for sure is theres no major delays behind that scene, route 1 southbound around 295. Watch for some emergency crews. You can see somebody else getting to the scene right now. Looks like more delay going in the opposite direction. More updates on these scenes when im back in ten. 6 03. Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf is calling on Kathleen Kane to leave her post as attorney general after a jury found kane guilty on all counts in her perjury trial. Matt delucia is live outside the courthouse in Montgomery County. Tell us about the decision and whats next. After only a week of testimony, the jury took only 4 1 2 hours to come back with that guilty verdict. Guilty on all counts. We were therec as kathleen kan was whisked away into the back of a waiting suv in was at the courthouse last night right after the jury verdict came down. The jury found kane had used her office to embarrass a former staffer, leaking grand jury material to a newspaper to do so. And then lieded about it under oath. Kanes defense team did not call any witnesses, a strategy they admit did not work in this case. The Montgomery County d. A. Said this case rested on the facts. It seemed that we had somebody who felt that she was above the law. And thats not the case, because no one is above the law. And 12 people came in here and showed otherwise. The verdict, conviction on all counts was a crushing blow, im not going to say otherwise. But we have not lost our resolve. We will continue this litigation. Well continue this fight, because we believe that our client has been wrongfully, wrongfully accused of misconduct. Reporter kane has not said as of yet if she will step down as attorney general. Governor tom wolf had this to say, today is a sad day for the commonwealth and the people of pennsylvania. Attorney general kane has been convicted of serious charges. I do not believe Kathleen Kane should be the attorney general of the commonwealth of pennsylvania. She should resign immediately. Sentencing will happen within 90 days. Kane is out on bail. She has been since all of this was under way. The judge did order her not to retaliate against any of the witnesses in this case or that she would be locked up. She does face prison time here. Again, that sentencing, until we find out what that will be, that is a big question mark at this point. For now, live in norristown, matt delucia, nbc 10 news. Thank you. Its too late. Thats what an Appeals Court is telling bill cosby about his effort to reseal his deposition testimony. c cosby admits to several affairs in the deposition and says he gave prescription sedatives to women he wanted to seduce. The deposition was unsealed at the request of the Associated Press last year. Cosby wants to stop the documents from being used in his Montgomery County trial. The court ruled, quote, the contents of the documents are a matter of public knowledge. And we cannot pretend that we could change that fact by ordering them resealed. This morning, there are some answers about the murder suicide that claimed five lives in berks county. We now know mark short killed his family before taking his own life. Investigators say short bought a gun way day after police went to his home for a domestic dispute in july. The day before the killings he was at hershey park with all the kids. August 6th, the bodies of his wife, three churn and their dog were found. Megan short planned to move to an apartment in another town that same day. She told police in july that she was afraid of her husband. The Sinking SpringPolice Department did, at that time, advise megan short how to get a protection from abuse order. But she chose not to. Mark short had been demoted at his job as a loan officer a few days before the murders. Investigators say fingerprints on the weapon and handwriting analysis of a suicide note proved that mark short killed his family. Investigators are looking for what caused this collision involving a septa bus and that car in front of it. Skyforce 10 over the scene at germantown avenue and juniata street in the nicetown section of philadelphia. This happened last night just before 5 00 p. M. At least five people went to the hospital to be checked out. Four deaths are blamed on this latest heat wave. The latest victim, a 72yearold man from West Philadelphia who had other medical conditions. Philadelphia city leaders passed out fans to people in need yesterday. Just a degree difference, a degree warmer in philadelphia in trenton than yesterday. But it is going to be a hot afternoon and a steamier day. Its going to feel hotter as we go into the afternoon. The temperatures will feelslike temperatures will top 100 degrees. Start off with showers. Not much left of them. A few sprinkles in Burlington County and ocean county. Most of the showers left southern delaware as well. Later today, storms are likely to take shape. For now, the heaviest weather is well into the midwest. We are seeing some activity in central pennsylvania. This first round of showers is going to miss us but during the day today, this afternoon, as the heat builds and the humidity, too, well see more storms moving in from the northwest. Those will pass to the north of harrisburg, heading towards williamsport this morning. Into the heat and humidity this afternoon, into the 90s but it will feel much hotter than that. It will be on the rise during the day. 77 degrees in philadelphia. A little bit of a southwesterly breeze. Something we didnt have yesterday that will bring in the additional heat. It becomes more southerly at 8 00. Its a 9 mileanhour breeze at 11 00. Notice the clouds on the increase at 11 00 as well as the temperature. 84 degrees in philadelphia. That hour. For delaware, its 75 degrees right now. The clouds will be increasing this afternoon. Well get sunshine to warm temperatures from the 70s to the 80s. A chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms at 11 00. That threat becomes greater as we go into the later afternoon and evening hours. The temperatures go up, back into the middle 90s today. With the additional humidity it will feel hotter, be more taxing on your system than yesterday. It will feel like its more than 100 degrees for each of these locations. Delawares Supreme CourtDeath Penalty ruling will not be challenged. The state attorney general decided not to appeal. Earlier this month, the delaware Supreme Court justices said the state law violated the u. S. Constitution. The attorney general says he does not believe that the ruling can be retroactively applied to the 13 men currently on death row. Children and parents are getting ready to go back to school. This year, hundreds of military kids will get help filling their backpacks at joint base mcguire dix lakehurst. Operation home front will hand out for man 200 backpacks with school supplies. Students heading back to school in philadelphia will have a new way to stay hydrated. The School District announced yesterday it will install water fountains equipped with filters and separate faucets for water bottles. Next month, the hydration stations will be in place at 48 schools and all 218 schools will have them by may. Supporters of the late frank rizzo are fighting to save a statue of the former philadelphia mayor and police commissioner. They marched last night from philadelphia to center city. This is in response to an online petition started by a black lives matter group. They claim rizzo was a racist. Supporters decided to rally last night for police and the statue. They were met by members of the black lives matter movement. There were heated exchanges but the march went on as planned. Riz rizzos family calls the allegation nonsense and philadelphia mayor jim kenney says there can be discussion about the statues location but it will not be decided about a few hundred signatures on petitions. Today, phillies fans are anticipating the return of chase utley, even if he is in a dodgers uniform. Utley and his teammates arrived in center city last night. Former phils second baseman and fan favorite is ready to play his first game in town after being dealt to the dodgers last year. A man is facing arson charges for a Northern California wildfire that destroyed close to 200 homes and is still not contained. The socalled clayton fire was started saturday night about 60 miles north of napa. He was arrested for stating that fire and several others over the past year. Officials estimate the damage will top 10 million. A relatively calm night in milwaukee after two nights of violence there. A 10 00 p. M. Curfew for teenagers started last night. Tensions erupted saturday night after police shot and killed an armed man during a traffic stop saturday afternoon. A camera captured a tornado touching down in indiana. This twister was one of several spotted in the state last night west of indianapolis. A steamy start and mostly cloudy in cape may, though the rain has ended. There were rain showers when we went on the air at 4 30, that was light rain moving through cape may. The temperatures cooled into the 70s. Add about 10 degrees to these numbers for afternoon high temperatures. And very steamy at the shore. It will feel close to 100. Scattered showers, a few rainc drops left in new jersey. Those will be tapering off. Scattered showers and thunderstorms this evening for most of our area. The showers are to our northwest and farther northwest, you can see widespread rainfall ahead of all of this precipitation is moisture. Surging back into the area. Very high humidity and the heat and humidity will likely fuel more showers and thunderstorms. The hour by hour forecast shows it stays quiet this morning. Look at that line of thunderstorms moving into western berks county at that hour. At 5 00, the suburbs could see heavy downpours as well as northern delaware. Thats 6 00 this evening. Those storms could produce not only heavy downpours but damaging winds this afternoon. By 7 00 this evening, they start to slow down but we could still see showers into the late evening commute. During the day, though, before the storms move in, the temperatures back into the 90s. Debris in the road as well. It is blocking shoulder and the next lane over. One lanec getting by on route 9 northbound right past this accident scene at susquehanna road. A slowdown there.
