Tracy, it is a first alert weather day as you mentioned. Periods of snow during the day today. Right now, its limited to delaware where its mixing with rain. We did have some scattered snow showers overnight and the temperatures have dropped. Be on the lookout for icy spots this morning. Some slipping and sliding has already been reported. And at the coast, another round of flooding unfortunately in delaware and south jersey. High tide between 7 30 and 8 30 this morning. Right now, dry in philadelphia. You dont have to look far to find light snow falling in central New Castle County. Its mixing with rain in delaware and south jersey. Very light to start with. Not really making progress to the north just yet. It is wet, rain coming down in cape may. The biggest threat of the shore, however, will be the flooding just some scattered light showers in the Atlantic City area at this time. Look at the temperatures, just below freezing in pottstown, trenton, mt. Holly, 31 degrees. Its dry in these areas right now. It wasnt overnight. We did see scattered showers. Youll see accumulation on some of the cars and maybe on grassy surfaces. During the day, clouds will start producing snow in philadelphia as we go into the afternoon hours. You might see a few snowflakes mainly to the south at 8 00. 33 degrees. In spite of clouds, upper 30s at 11 00 and 2 00 this afternoon. A lot of the snow will be melting as it comes down. That will limit how much we get from this system as it moves through. Well go through the forecast neighborhood by neighborhood when im back in ten minutes. Jessica boyington has your traffic. Jesse . This is around the schuylkill expressway on the blue route no delays or backups yet. We have speeds averaged in the 60s, 15minute trip southbound from the schuylkill to 95. No delays yet. Heres route 202, pretty much the same story. You can see the roadways are highlighted in green, northbound, southbound, from 30 to the schuylkill expressway. Also still in the 60s, maybe just dropping down to the 50s. No big delays, 11 minutes from the schuylkill, the 30 at the least for right now. Route 70 in cherry hill, new jersey around kings highway. Looking shiny through the intersection. Everybody is moving along just fine. Watch for the slippier spots they may come up on you quickly. Speed restrictions as well on the area bridges because of the weather related issues, commodore barry, ben and betsy down to 35 miles an hour. The walt is nice and clear heading into philadelphia. Whats it like, matt . well, tracy and vai, we have seen the light flurries pick up a little bit more in the past 30 minutes here, starting to see more prominent flurry activity here in delaware. Brute as we see on east main street in newark, mostly just wet road as we see more vehicles heading out on to the roadways right now. Deldot says its been workingc overnight to make sure the major roads and highways are safe this morning. The crews have been putting down the brine solution. Theyve been doing that all day yesterday into the night. One important note, d. A. R. T. Transit service are plating on a normal schedule today. Keep that in mine. You should expect minor delays if that snow starts to accumulate. Once that does, you may see delays on the transit services. Some snow covered vehicles out here right now. We did see snowfall overnight that did accumulate. You see that truck right over there had some snow on it as well. You might need the snow brush as you head out the door this morning. I was going to say, look to the left and right of your screen as we make our way down the heart of allentown. Its probably less than an inch, a quarter inch of accumulation on car windshields and hoods. You are going to want to be equipped with your snow scraper if you go out. Were noticing and hearing reports of moisture north and west of philadelphia. Those are areas where the temperature is hovering around 30 here in allentown. Its registering for me just below 30. So some light moisture that moves through the area over the next little bit could very well freeze on surfaces, especially sidewalks and driveways. Be careful as youre headed out this morning. It might not be the snow accumulation you thought it would be but it is still making for some potentially hazardous conditions. I checked in with septa for those commuters in and around the philadelphia area and suburbs. Right now there are no Service Alerts or interruptions. Travelers are advised to be cautious when youre getting on and off of trolleys, buses and trains. Penndot going into the system moving in last night and through the morning. They had hundreds of trucks throughout the area, plows and salt trucks ready to attack it, especially because we know from just a few days ago when weather hits during the morning commute it can make for dicey situations. No reported issues because of the ice. That doesnt mean youre in the clear by any means if youre up in the lehigh valley. Well take a drive south and see what the conditions are on the northeast extonight as we head south toward plymouth meeting. If you live in philadelphia, there will be no trash or recycling pickup today. If tuesday is your normal day youll have to wait until next week to put out your trash. In Atlantic City, residents moved their cars to Higher Ground last night because of the threat of more flooding. A new moon combined with onshore winds is expected to push water from the back bay into neighborhoods. Places like West Wildwood saw serious tidal flooding yesterday morning. Now, 21 degrees in mt. Pocono. Its dry there. Theyve been making snow in the mountains. Trenton is 29. Snow during the day. Its a rain snow mix, though. The temperature has just bumped up to 36 degrees. That ill, the problem for accumulation during the day. The temperatures will be getting warmer. In the pocono mountains, its cold enough for snow making. Thats worth taking advantage of. Theyre not going to get a lot of snow out of this one in the mountains. Radar shows snow and rain to the south. Matt delucia shows the first snowflakes in newark. You see just a little activity showing up on the radar there. Its steadier to the south. This is where youre seeing a rain snow mix for dover with temperatures at 36 degrees. Its trying to move into south jersey but right now its just very light precipitation in cumberland county. Weve seen rain this morning in cape may. The temperatures, 20s for pottstown, trenton at 29 degrees, right at the freezing mark for northeast philadelphia and wrightstown, below freezing for blue bell, Lafayette Hill and glenside. Go further north and west youre more likely to find the icy spots. Her by hour forecast at 9 00, not everybody is getting rain or snow at that point but it starts to creep into pennsylvania. Steadier showers in delaware will continue into the late morning hours. Really isnt until we get into fahe afternoon that we see the snow spreads to the north and during the evening commute as were heading into it, we will see snowfall. The other big element to this is temperatures. Along with the snow moving into the area, the temperatures will be moving up, even north and west. At 2 00 this afternoon, just above freezing for limerick, 38 degrees in newtown. The snow moving into montgomery and bucks county and then at 4 30 this afternoon, the snow will be coming down and grassy surfaces especially will see the highest accumulation. Youll have to watch out for sl slippery spots. Just above freezing in norristown. Cold enough in limerick for some slippery spots and accumulation and as we go into the evening hours by midnight tonight, most of the snow is coming to an end. By the time its said and done, by tomorrow morning, up to an inch in southern delaware and at the jersey shore inland, more likely to find 1 to 3 inches of snow. Were still watching an area that could develop for heavier snowfalls in the western suburbs, possibly into New Castle County and delaware. Farther north youll wind up with less snow from this one. The tarp is ready, the lincoln financial field is waiting for the snow. Theyll have to wait for a while. At the shore, another round of coastal flooding, delaware and south jersey. Coastal Flood Warning until 1 00 this afternoon. Even inland, possible flooding along the delaware river. As far as timing for delaware, rehoboth, just after 8 00, high tide. This afternoon the snow returns but with temperatures well above freezing. Thats going to limit the snow totals. Were expecting 1 to 3 inches in philadelphia. During an average winter it uses more than 80 tons of salt. Last months blizzard dug into a third of that amount. Penndot tells us each plow trucks takes up to three hours to complete its cycle. Periods of snow during the day. Its not going to be an all day snowfall. Slipping and sliding this morning because of icy spots. There were showers overnight and temperatures have dropped at or below freezing for much of the area. Treat it as if it is ice this morning. Along the coast, flooding, not just at the jersey shore and delaware and beaches but also for the delaware river. Jessica boyington was tracking flooding earlier today. Thats a possibility again this afternoon. We have snow. Its a snow rain mix in delaware, central and southern delaware and into cape may. The light snow is moving into where the cameras are in newark this morning. We saw a few snowflakes to begin with and steady, light snows that extends into kent county. Its coming down heavier. This is a rain snow mix where the rain comes together with the snow. Thats happening in cape may county. Its light precipitation. The main threat at the shore is going to be flooding. Right at freezing for philadelphia, wilmington and northeast philadelphia but during the day, the temperaturec will be climbing. Its really going to limit the accumulation during the day. Scattered light snow showers at 8 00 and 11 00. Look at the temperature difference. 38 degrees. When the steadier snow and rain moves in this afternoon, 38 degrees, most of the area will be above freezing so theres a possibility that grassy surfaces will see more accumulation but much of the rest of the area will be watching it melt as it comes down. We have an accident scene popping up in Mercer County on route 1 southbound before alexander road. Addition to the accident scene, combined with a fuel spill. Theres cleanup under way. Well keep you updated. That may be out there a little longer than normal because of the cleanup. Route 22 and 309, no problems here. Route 42 around runnemede, average speeds are starting to drop. Were approaching the normal rush hour time. Also an accident in hatfield township on forty foot road and koppel road. Katy zachry is in stormforce 10 keeping an eye on the icy spots out there. When you wake up this morning, head out the door, you might have to get the snow brush and the windshields. Mostly its on the grassy surfaces or the parking meters, trash cans that we see out here on east main street. Right here behind us, a lot of those vehicles, that truck to the right has snow on it. Thats really the most that weve seen thus far out here. We have seen the snow pick up quite a little bit in the past hour or so. More flurries, again, no real accumulation on the ground that weve seen just yet. Weve been talking about the icy surfaces, because the temperature has dipped below freezing here. A lot of those moist surfaces, west surfaces out there, you can get icing an we have seen some of these vehicles and some of the side streets spinning and sliding out there. Its really helpful when there are streetlights around and they glisten off of moisture on the roads. Thats one way you can get a heads up if theres an icy patch ahead. Weve seen throughout our travels wet spots aen lo the road. We were on 4 76, 611, we went west toward allentown and south for a bit on the northeast extension and then we got off on 309. We traversed the area, spaefkly this area where were expecting there are going to be issues, there would be icing issues up here. The temperature is below freezing, hovering around 30 degrees, maybe even less in some parts. Especially if youre walking out to your car this morning, allow for extra time. Most of the cars weve seen have that light dusting of snow on their windshield and hood. Underneath that light dusting of snow, you might have a thin layer of ice. The greatest threat is an an hour away at the jersey shore at time of high tide. Inland, though, were watching for periods of snow. In fact, were already seeing rain and snow in the area and some slipping and sliding. Icy spots, the temperatures have dropped overnight. Well be tracking periods of rain and snow during the day today. More likely youll see it coming down during the afternoon hours. Coastal flooding, that threat for the jersey shore and the delaware beaches. Dover is reporting light snow rain mix, 36 degrees. The temperatures gone up this morning. Cold enough for snow but it is dry in trenton and mt. Pocono. Theyve been making snow in the pocono mountains. Clear view accross the delawar. Low clouds but thats it so far. A brief shower overnight. Some of the roads as katy zachry has been reporting are a bit damp. Here comes the rain snow mix in central delaware and into south jersey. The snow is slowly making some progress over the last couple hours, its moved into northern delaware. You saw the light snow coming down in newark as matt delucia has been reporting. Its falling into wilmington and just starting to move into delaware county. The hour by hour forecast shows at 9 00 it continues to make slow progress. Not a lot of activity this morning. It will reach philadelphia during the late morning but even more likely during the afternoon hours. Thats when you see the snow start to come down. The temperatures will be climbing at that hour. Hour by hour in delaware, look at the temperatures, 30s and above freezing for newark and middletown with snow coming down at 10 00, mixing with rain, especially in central delaware. Tapering off in some spots. B by 1 30 this afternoon. Temperatures above freezing. It doesnt look like it will be a big threat into the afternoon hours. Well be watching those temperatures in new jersey at 10 00 this morning, 37 degrees, light snow in salem county spreading inland to glassboro at 2 00 in the afternoon. As we go into the Late Afternoon hours, well get some breaks in the precipitation. Its not going to be an allday snowfall. With temperatures above freezing, most of the accumulation is going to happen on grassy surfaces. So southern and central delaware, there will be a rain snow mix of not a lot of accumulation there. 1 to 3 inches possible in philadelphia. Were still watching an area that could develop with heavier snowfall in the western suburbs, farther to the north, less accumulation and most of the accumulation with temperatures into the middle 30s and upper 30s in our area are going to be destined for those grassy surfaces. More slipping and sliding as we get through the morning commute. By noontime, we could get a break in the precipitation. But then steadier snow moves in for the afternoon at 3 00 this afternoon. Notice the temperatures, upper 30s. A lot of it is going to be melting as it falls. North and west, montgomery and bucks county, dry to begin with as we go into the afternoon. Thats when we see the snow develop, 4 00 this afternoon, just barely above freezing. More likely to see the accumulation in the northern and western suburbs on the harder surfaces as the temperatures will be closer to freezing. By the time this one is done tomorrow morning, periods of snow up to an inch in delaware and south jersey, philadelphia and trenton, 1 to 3 inches. Were still watching.
