And breaking overnight, a tractortrailer and a bus collide on the new jersey turnpike leaving 32 people hurt. This accident blocked part of the highway for hours overnight. This is all unfolding in west deptford, gloucester county. The injured are being treated at nine hospitals across the area. Katy zachry live. What are you learning about this crash . Reporter minutes ago we got here to the woolwitch Municipal Building where police are dealing with the case. There is where the uninjured passengers were brought. Well look at more video of the scene. This tractortrailer bus crash happened around 12 30 this morning in west deptford, gloucester township. It happened right on the new jersey turnpike near exit 2. Now, preliminary reports according to state police show the tractortrailer collided with the bus. The bus overturned along the side of the turnpike into a grassy ditch. Thats probably what really helped the situation because more than 30 people on board were injured. State police tell me no major injuries reported, no one died in this despite how harrowing it looks from the bus overturning. There were some children on board that bus. In terms of the injuries being reported, just minor at this point. People reporting pain in their arms and legs. A lot of people taken to six area hospitals. More for precautionary reasons. We were at Cooper University hospital in the last 45 minutes. We tried to connect with patients, but they were just being seen by doctors. Heres whats going to happen for the passengers they were being transported on the tour bus from new york to atlanta, were hearing it was going to make stops in virginia and north carolina. People traveling along the eastern seaboard there. They are waiting for another bus that was just sent from new york to pick up the passengers who can still travel, who are in this area, continue them along their destination. We are waiting to find out and we have calls in to find out whats going to happen to the injured passengers. Ill have another update coming up in the next 25 minutes. From that earlier live shot of the overaccident overnight accident that katy was showing, there are a lot of delays on the new jersey turnpike southbound between the black horse pike and route 322. Look at the scene now. I gave it a thumbs up because all lanes have reopened for traffic to resume. Traffic earlier approaching the accident scene was crawling at travel speeds between the 20s and 30s miles per hour, i should say. Traffic has resumed. We are very green. Were not seeing any medics or emergency crews on scene because its just now resuming traffic. Another note, we are looking at a bridge closure, the tacony palmyra, closed to traffic from an earlier scheduled open at 4 40. Back to you. 5 04 on this friday. Flights headed to and from the airport were put on hold during last nights storms. After the flights resumed, passengers told us there were delays of several hours. American airlines said it was trying to get everyone to their destinations as quickly as possible. Federal investigators looking at the wreckage of this deadly chopper crash in New Castle County yesterday. The pilot, michael murphy, was training in inclement weather to prepare for emergency situations. Murphy was a backup pilot for sky force 10. Yesterday we spoke to a woman who works nearby. A piece of the helicopter fell on top of her car. I cant never forget this incident. We came running outside the office and saw thick smoke and big fire. I cannot explain it. How sad it must be for that guy. The pilot, michael murphy, was the only person on board the chopper. Federal investigators will be looking at air Traffic Control tapes for any unusual activity to try to determine the cause of this crash. Necessary a hearing this morning in Atlantic County in connection with the April Kauffman murder case. The radio host and veterans advocate was found shot to death in her lynnwood home in 2012. Today the county prosecutor will ask the court if he can obtain a dna sample from kauffmans husband, dr. James kauffman. Several weeks ago, the prosecutor announced that he is taking a new look at all unsolved homicide cases, including the kauffman case. New from overnight, a montana republican won a congressional special election one day after an assault charge was filed against him for allegedly body slamming a reporter. Greg gianforte used his victory speech to apologize. I took an action that i cant take back. Im not proud of what happened. I should not have responded in the way that i did. For that im sorry. Gianforte apologized to the reporter by name. Wednesday night, witnesses said gianforte grabbed the reporter and slammed him to the ground when he asked him a question about the health care law. A new beach warning at the jersey shore posted in time for the memorial day weekend. Signs are alerting swim force possible danger at one particular beach. Some say its not enough. About a dozen signs along the inlet beach carry wording like deadly currents and a real risk of drowning. A man was swept out to sea from the beach and drowned in 2012. The family is fighting in court to have the beach closed for good. Say its definitely going to happen again. We just dont know when.
