Changes the department has made as a result of this. Officials say fire lieutenant joyce craig died because a hose that supplied her with oxygen had burned through. In addition, the nefrinvestigat uncovered problems with how colleagues responded to her seven emergency distress signals. The failures happened as 37yearold lieutenant craig was battling a house fire on middleton street in december of 2014. It was determined that there were other indirect causes to led to her death. The city report cites a lack of situational awareness, poor strategy and tactics, and at un and an uncoordinated rescue effort by her chief. Adding she was a devastating loss to her family and Fire Department. Shes hoping the lessons they learned from the reports will prevent this from happening ever again. Supreme court overnight ruled the state of arkansas cannot execute a death row inma inmate. The high court blocked a challenge by the state to execute a man convicted of murder. Arkansas has not executed an inmate in 12 years. No reason was given for the supreme courts decision. Arkansas is working to execute eight death row inmates before its supply of lethal injection drugs expires. Were following a developing story in the manhunt for the facebook killer. It continues this morning. Police in cleveland say Steve Stephens shot an elderly man at random on sunday and then posted video of the murder to facebook. The suspect blamed the woman for his actions and said he snapped because of her. Authorities are offering a 50,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. Meanwhile, the family of the victim is left to grieve and wonder why this had to happen. He dont know what he took from us. He just dont know. In cleveland last night, loved ones and friends held a vigil for the victim, 74yearold Robert Godwin sr. Mourners tried to comfort each other at the spot where he was picking up aluminum cans when he was gunned down. Detectives are waiting for an autopsy report to determine how a man found in a vacant restaurant died. The restaurant in northeast philadelphia has been empty for a year. Contractors were called yesterday to repair some broken windows. Inside they found the charred remains of a mans body. Police have not ruled out the possibility the victim may have been a squatter who accidentally set himself on fire while trying to stay warm. A Burlington County man will be sentenced today for the murder of a 6yearold boy in one of the nations most famous missing children cases. Pedro hernandez was convicted of killing etan patz in new york in 1979. The child disappeared as he walked to his bus stop. Patz became the first child to appear on milk cartons. His body was never found. Police got a tip in 2012 that led them to hernandez. The maple shade man confessed. Governor tom wolf is weighing in on the controversy involving the lieutenant opportunity and his treatment of state employees. The governor told mike stack multiple times, you need to stop. The state Inspector General is investigating reports that stack and his wife mistreated state employees. Stack acknowledges that he said things in anger or frustration that hes now regretting. United airlines in the spotlight when a couple flying from costa rica to houston for their wedding said they were kicked off their flight on saturday. When they boarded, someone was laying across their seats, taking a nap. They moved to other seats that were more expensive with extra leg room. They were flew. A tenant asked them to move. They did. Then a u. S. Air marshal came on board, told them to leave the plane. The tsa says no federal agents were involved. United says the passengers repeatedly attempted to sit in upgraded seats which they did not purchase, and they would not follow crew instructions to return to their assigned seats. They were asked to leave the plane by our staff and complied. We offered them a discounted hotel rate for last evening and rebooked them on a flight this morning. United is changing one of its policies following the scandal of the passenger removal. The airline will no longer allow crew members to displace customers already on board an airplane. Crew members now have to look a ride an hour before departure. Previously crew members were able to get on the plane up until it was ready to take off. Students returned to the San Bernardino school where a man shot and killed a teacher, a student, and then himself. Students offered hugs and support for the first day of classes at North Park Elementary School yesterday. A memorial dedicated to the victims continues to grow outside the school.
