Good morning, welcome to nbc 10 news today. Im tracy davidson. Im vai sikahema. Lets start with meteorologist bill henley and the nbc 10 first alert neighborhood weather. Bill is dealing with the rain this morning. Bill . Like yesterday, its the same pattern we were dealing with yesterday. Yesterday morning, heavy rainfall. Showers on and off. Today the same thing. With heavy rainfall overnight, were looking at a flood threat for delaware, new jersey and the philadelphia area. In fact, not only this morning but through today theres a possibility of heavy rainfall which will bring a flash flood threat. Were also looking at coastal flooding today, along the Atlantic Coast for the jersey shore and the delaware beaches. And along the coast of delaware bay and into delaware river. Moderate coastal flooding is a possibility. Overnight, you may have heard downpours through delaware into south jersey and the suburbs. Some of the heaviest rain right now moved into southern kent county. This is an area just into southern new castle county. Its moved through kent county which is seeing heavy rainfall overnight. Those heavy downpours are slowly moving to the south. Towson, middleton, youre in the path of the heavier showers. Moderate showers in allentown and scattered spots of heavier rainfall to the west of redding this morning. Meanwhile, new jersey, seeing some breaks in the rainfall. Thats temporary. Its going to be on and off showers, mainly light showers into burlington county, camden and gloucester counties. The steadier rain is in salem in cumberland county. Another dreary day today, which means the temperatures are not going to warm up much. Were in the 50s, those steady northeasterly winds for the lehigh valley, philadelphia, the suburbs, that will keep us from warming into the 70s which is normal for this time of year. It will be low to mid60s this afternoon. In new jersey, c65 degrees for inland areas and at the shore. Ill take a look at these forecasts hour by hour when i come back in just a few minutes. First its your first alert traffic with Francesca Ruscio. Very busy on the roadways this morning. Were looking at an accident on route 422 at trooper road. You do see a lane restriction. Its a multivehicle accident. This is on the eastbound side. Trying to get towards the schuylkill expressway from route 29 towards the schuylkill, we are seeing a bit of a backup. Its going to take you about 10 to 15 minutes or so. Once you get past this accident, the cars start to pick up and you can head towards the schuylkill that way. Right now this is in play and it is affecting travel speeds and times on 422. Conshohocken right now watching this on crawford avenue and front street. No reported problems or delays. It has been in play for the last 15 minutes. Over in west norriton, were still watching this accident on main street and school lane. Yes, its a busy morning on the majors. Over in new jersey when i come back, plus, well take a look at the schuylkill expressway. 5 34 this morning, hoboken, rail service in and out of the city is canceled while investigators try to figure out what caused that deadly train crash at the station. Nbc 10s matt delucia is live in hoboken this morning. Whats happening right now . Well, tracy and vai, it is still an active scene and investigation at this hour. Still unclear what caused new Jersey Transit train 1614 to crash through the terminal in hoboken yesterday. You can see bright lights out there. Some of the investigators have been doing their work not just through yesterday but throughout the night and throughout the morning. The ntsb is here. They have access to the locomotive. The Severe Damage to the station has kept them out of the rest of the train. More then 100 people on and off the train were injured. One person was killed. The engineer was also injured here. He is said to be cooperating with the ntsb investigation. The vice chairwoman says part oc the buildings canopy is resting on one of the train cars. Train 1614 crashed into the terminal, witnesses say, at a much faster speed than the 10 mileperhour speed limit as it is coming into the terminal to stop. Investigators will be looking at everything from mechanical issues, signals, track issues, also what the engineer was doing at the time and any other potential causes. The agency expects to be on the scene for a week to ten days. Here now from some of the people who were witnessing this on the train and off. It came in at a high rate of speed. Went through the bumper block, through the air, took the ceiling out. I hear this loud noise, like nails on a chalkboard, metal on metal. I thought people would be pinned where we were. We were able to climb over seats and get out the window. There was just a deafening silence for a few moments and then all these screams just sort of pouring out. The 34yearold was standing on the platform here. The hoboken resident and mom was killed by falling debris. The station normally has around 15,000 people coming through it every day. Not today. It is shout down. Only investigators inside at the moment. Hopefully Getting Better access to the rail cars today and figure out what went wrong. Live in hoboken this morning, matt delucia, nbc 10 news. A similar train accident happened same station in 2011. A p. A. T. H. Commuter train injured more than 30 people. In that case, the engineer failed to slow down the train as it came into the station. The National Transportation safety board says it will be looking at whether positive train control or ptc could have prevent the deadly crash in hoboken. Reports filed with the federal Railroad Administration show ptc is fully active on amtraks northeast corridor and nearly 100 active on septas rail system. c the Safety System is designed to prevent accidents by automatically slowing or stopping trains that are going too fast. And this morning in wilmington, paying final respects. Today two firefighters two died in the line of duty will be laid to rest. Nbc 10s Pamela Osborne is live in wilmington this morning. Pamela . Tracy, vai, were joining you now from one of the firehouses of one of those fallen firefighters. Take a look. You can see a memorial of flowers, a couple american flags there, all left outside of this department. There will be yet another day of mourning here in wilmington. Last night, hundreds of firefighters from all over the region traveled here to pay their respects to firefighter jerry fickes. He and lieutenant Christopher Leach were killed while fighting a row home fire on saturday. A public memorial was held last nature for fickes. People who know him told us there he was amazing, dynamic, that he loved his family and fire department. His fellow fair fighter gathered to remember him on the same day they learned the fire, both men died fighting was arson. 27 years Beatrice Ruiz was arrested yesterday and charged with the deaths of both firefighters. Some of their colleagues tell us they are relying on each other now more than ever before. We go in there, risk our lives every day and then for someone to intentionally set a fire, its horrible. And private funerals will be held later today for both men. Tomorrow morning there will be a Public Memorial Service to honor both of their lives. Reporting live in wilmington, im Pamela Osborne, nbc 10 news. New information in the new York New Jersey bombing case. A senior Law Enforcement official tells nbc news investigators believe the suspect, ahmad rahami was spotted entering manhunt on a train the night ofc chelsea explosion earlier this month. The blast injured month are than 30 people. A second device did not explode. It appears rahami was seen on Surveillance Video walking on new yorks penn station. But we will get some breaks in the rainfall. Its not going to be an allday rainfall. Like yesterday, were starting with some areas of heavier rain. Philadelphia is getting light rain. Some of the suburbs seeing good downpours into the phoenixville area, norristown getting steady, light rain. Its coming through delaware in middletown to get some of the heavier downpours. New jersey, a few spots in salem and cumberland counties. Further to the northeast, the rain is lighter. The wind is still blowing. That wind at 17 miles an hour in philadelphia. 58 degrees. Look at those temperatures, barely moving, low 60s at lunch time. The steady showers, the heavier showers will taper off. It will be scattered lighter showers this morning and some breaks in the rainfall, especially this afternoon. Thats when temperatures will come up a couple degrees but held down by the winds. Same deal in the suburbs, cloudy skies, rain right now. Showers on and off and that steady northeasterly wind, 50s for the morning into the afternoon. Just the low 60s today. And the lehigh valley, getting some downpours this morning. A 16 mileanhour wind right now. 54 degrees at 8 00. 50s right on through the day. A chilly day with that northeasterly wind and showers on and off in the lehigh valley. Youll need your umbrella in new jersey, too, even though the rain is lighter this morning, well see occasional showers. Theres still a potential for a downpour at some point during the morning. We are tracking heavy rain and the potential for flooding across our region today. Police have made an arrest in a deadly hit and run that happened nearly two years ago. Christopher cook was taken into custody, charging him with involuntary manslaughter. Investigator say he was behind the wheel of a pickup or tow truck that sped off after hitting and killing teresa pozzi. It happened in december of 2014. Police say an anonymous tip led them to cook. This friday at the bridgegate trial, the prosecutions key witness says aides close to governor Chris Christie prepared a bogus cover story for one of his top staffers during a conference call. Yesterday, former Port Authority executive wildstein. Wildstein changed his story from previous testimony. Decision 2016, city officials in phoenix are demanding donald trump stops using a tv ad that seems to suggest police in the city support his campaign. It is really quick. The phoenix City Attorney says the ad wrongfully suggests the officers endorse trump. He says thats not the case since the Police Department there does not support or endorse any candidate for president. Nbc news could not reach Trumps Campaign for comment on the story. An arizona newspaper says it received Death Threats andc subscription cancellations since it endorsed hillary clinton. It was the first time the arizona republics 126year history that it supported a democrat for president. Another paper is making history by urging readers to vote against donald trump. Usa today published a critique of the republican nominee yesterday. The paper says in its 36year history it hasnt been compelled to make such a statement until now. According to the article, the Editorial Board was unanimous in saying trump was unfit for the presidency. Yet they still did not endorse anyone. Election systems in at least 20 states have been attacked by hackers and Security Experts say pennsylvania is the most vulnerable state to this kind of attack. Philadelphias rain and wind. Weve seen steady rain in wilmington, too. Light rain in the wilmington area. There are heavy downpours in delaware moving into the suburbs. If youre moving out the door, stand by for another day very much like yesterday. A lot of it has to do with the wind thats steady even when we got breaks in the rain yesterday. The winds keeping the clouds in place and making the rain feel like its coming down leitner new jersey. This mornings commute for wilmington, philadelphia, into new jersey and the suburbs is going to be challenging with the rain. The heavier showers in upper Montgomery County and into berks county. The allentown area seeing pretty good rainfall. If youre heading farther to the north in the poconos, thats all rain for scranton this morning. The rain totals have been impressive and we expect more during the day today. Theres still more coming down. More than an inch and a half on the ground. The last 24 hours in pottstown, wilmington, 2 1 2 inches and close to 2 inches in vineland. But just to the south, middletown and into kent conte, some very high totals, almost 7 inches of rain in the last 24 hours in dover and topping a foot of rain in parts of Sussex County to the south. The flood threat continues. First alert, that continues for delaware, new jersey, the philadelphia area through today. Heavy rain at times, especially this morning. A flash flood threat and coastal flooding. Thats a possibility during the day today. As far as the weekend is concerned, we will see some improvement. Saturday, not a lot. Not heavy rainfall but we will see enough wet weather in the area, enough clouds to keep the temperatures in the 60s. Then showers send morning but expect to see sunshine in the afternoon, break through those clouds at least a little bit. Most of the area will warm into the 70s for sunday.
