Today, we are tracking a rainy commute this morning across the entire area. Heres a look at the nbc10 first alert weather radar. A father charged in the death of his child. Not just today, tonight and tomorrow. Its all about rainfall accumulating over a Long Duration that could lead to some flooding in our area. Not seeing it in philadelphia. Suburbs extending into new jersey as well. Steady, rain and windy conditions. But the heaviest rain has been to the south. Its starting to taper off in parts of south jersey. Southern delaware, look at those heavy downpours. We will see get in breaks in rain. Theres a chance well see showers and possibly a thunderstorm. 60s right now, low 60s. Middle 60s this afternoon. Well look at this forecast hour by hour when i come back in a few hours but first Francesca Ruscio with traffic. Thank you, bill. Good morning, everyone. Lets take a look at this accident ive been watching for quite some time. Broad street and island avenue. The backup will take you past and seeing major delays, five to ten minutes. So far, originally one lane was blocked, two lanes are blocked again, southbound side between broad and island avenue. Watching for a disabled vehicle in upper pottsgrove. Because of these wet conditions, allow extra time and use caution. Be very careful towards your morning commute. Cobbs creek parkway were looking at road closures frommen aearlier accident between route 13 and highway 3. North and southbound side of that stretch that remain closed box of that earlier accident. Disabled vehicle in upper merion. This is towards the schuylkill expressway. Watch for these Road Conditions. Its still very wet out there. Again, new jersey, watch route 73 at route 30. Roadways are wet right now. We have very light traffic trickling on in. For the most part, were working to fix conditions everywhere. Lets check the conditions in New Castle County this morning. Reporter thats right, vai and tracy, you saw in my last shot at 5 00, the wind took the umbrella and messed it up a little bit so, i opted for the better solution of wearing the hood. We do still have windy conditions here. Its blowing the rain sideways. And now it seems like the rain drops air little heavier. Were here where the creek is now where the Delaware River meets up with the delaware city. You can see this is where they have some of that, not too much in the way of flooding anywhere around here. So, were also along clinton street here in delaware city. Very quiet right now but you can see the rain has been falling. And we have not seen much in the way of any flooding at all out here right now. But, of course, a lot of people might think that this rain is very welcome, considering the dry conditions that weve seen for much of the summer here. But, of course, its going to make for a little bit of a messy commute. Right over here, i just want to mention the wind once again here because that seems to be the Biggest Issue that were experiencing. We have storm force 10 here. You can ethe anemometer up here. The wind gauge blowing quite a bit here. Of course, we have seen light wind gusts through delaware. Now to get back into storm force. Were going to head deeper into inner delaware, in inner New Castle County. To show you more of the conditions. But, of course, youre going to need the rain jacket this morning. And possibly ditch that umbrella, because the wind is going to pick up, at least weve seen that, this morning. For now, im live in delaware city, matt delucia, nbc10 news. Automatll right, matt. Police have charged Nicholas Wilder with involuntary manslaughter. They say 2yearold Benjamin Smith was killed after he got ahold of a gun left out by his father. Police say the toddler had a fascination with toy guns and the man was warned by family members. This is an accident. This is not certainly an intentional death, if youre going to leave a gun out for your little 2yearold son to grab, thats no accident. He also faces charges of child endangerment and other crimes. And the prosecution witnesses in the bridgegate trial is expected to continue. David wildstein said governor Chris Christie staff, two are allegedly on trial for orchestrating lane closures leading to the George Washington bridge as political retaliation against ft. Lees mayor for not endorsing Chris Christies reelection. Earlier this week wildstein testified that christie knew about the closures as it happened. Christie has denied the charges and said he didnt know about the lane closures. He was at a Pharmaceutical Company in lawrenceville. We now know that a man killed by a septa train was blind. He stumbled into a poll and fell into the track. You can see firefighters here on the scene. Investigators say the death appears to be an accident. Heres something you dont see every day, a deer attacks a woman and fights to get inside her car. The new dash cam video is from Monmouth County and under scores how dangerous a deer can be. The car struck the car and then tried to jump into the drivers seat. This is from a police car dash cam. You can see she opened the door and the deer pounced on her. I just grabbed its antlers and put my foot on its chest to keep it from trying to come in on me. Wow, that deer later died from injuries. Experts say you should watch out for deer on the roads. State farm ranks pennsylvania third in the nation for being most likely having a collision with a deer. Happening today, rocker Bruce Springsteen will be at the Parkway Center library at noon to promote his new memoir born to run. Hell hold a meet and greet with lucky ticketholders. Tickets to the event are sold out. A Police Department is hosting police k9 teams from around the country. Theyll compete in the United States police k9 competition. 115 teams are facing off in gloucester township. The teams that compete at the nationals had to first compete and earn qualifying scores in their home regions. So theyre among the best Police Working dogs in north america. A lot of, you know, civilians, Even Police Officers that dont candle canines dont realize the training and work that goes into getting these dogs sharp. Event will be held in gloucester township. Cape may, winds are even a little stronger there. Look at the rainy start to the day. The steady rainfall that weve seen overnight tonight, weve also seen thunderstorms in the cape may area, actually get some breaks during the day. It wont be an allday rain but were not going to see bright sunshine today. Right now, were starting off with rain for cape may, but 9 moderate showers are a little farther to the north approaching avenue virgin avlon. Moderate showers in burlington and Camden County actually starting to settle down. Steady rain extends right past philadelphia into lehigh valley. The break in the rain is actually going to come from the south. You see some big storms. Those are parked just offshore over maryland. And the heavy rain falling in southern delaware, actually just to the southwest, starting to dry out a little bit. That is going to happen as we go through the morning. 9 00 this morning, still scattered showers in philadelphia. Steadier rain for the lehigh valley. Some downpours in southern delaware. Look at the breaks in rain for south jersey and into delaware. As we go into the lunchtime hour, you see another line of showers coming right back in to fill in the spots, were getting a break first thing this morning. Philadelphia at lunchtime could see a break in the rain. The steady rainfall keeps streaming inland and the heaviest rain drop amounts are expected to be west of philadelphia. Thats where weve issued a first alert potential for heavy rain fall over the next couple of day, in fact, this first alert goes through friday for chester county, berks county and all of delaware. Through friday, the potential for heavy rainfall and flash flood threat. This morning that flash flood threat is limited to southern delaware. There is going to be a break in the temperatures today. But stuck in the 60s for philadelphia, suburbs and lehigh valley. Getting a break at noon time and 4 00 this afternoon. For delaware, rain and even a chance of a thunderstorm first thing this morning. Occasional showers at lunch time. And more rain later in the day. Look at new jersey and the shore. Wind and occasional showers. Up to 70 degrees at the shore. A look at the weekend forecast and beyond with the 10 day on 10 in a few minutes. All right. 18 minutes before 6 00. Councilman Bill Greenlee will introduce a wage bill that would make it illegal for job employers to ask about salary history. Greenlee says women still make 79 cents for every dollar a man makes. He adds if a woman is paid less at the beginning of her career, shell keep earning less if employers can ask about they are salary history. It is a fair bill that dealing with a real issue, and i dont think in any way it hurts businesses. Again, you should be paid for what you work. Greenleigh and his cocouncil brown said it will help rule out discrimination in the workplace. And the turtle is being nursed back to health. The lava head turtle was nursed back. A team of five men carried her to a rescue truck. Now, shes being cared for at the mammal center. Experts say the turtle could be up to 60 years ago old. Experts hope to return her to the wild. Steady rain, seeing moderate showers overnight but the heavier showers moving through cape may. And the temperatures in the 60s during the day today. Look at the heavy rain in southern delaware. That is going to be tapering off. Theres already been a tremendous amount of rain in the area, anywhere from 4 to 6 inches on the ground. Flash flood warnings in effect for 7 15 for southern and southeast Sussex County but another Flash Flood Warning reaching into southwestern penn county. And thats until 9 00 this morning and all the rain moving in. Not just today. The rain for today will be on and off this afternoon but the clouds and wind will keep the temperatures in the 60s. Back to 65 degrees tomorrow with more rain for friday. Over the weekend, still might get to use your umbrella. Temperatures will climb a little bit on saturday. Mostly cloudy skies and a chance of showers on saturday. We may even see showers lingering into sunday. But were also likely to get breaks of sunshine to see what that does for the temperatures in the 60s into the middle 70s on sunday. Then in time for the work week, sunshine is back for monday. 76 degrees. Looks like a pretty nice day tuesday and wednesday, just a few more clouds around.
