Thousands of protesters took to the streets in cities across the country last night and early this morning, upset over the election of donald trump as president. Last night a crowd filled the streets in portland. This is video from the nbc affiliate there. It started as a peaceful protest. And then things turned unruly and heated with people smashing store windows. Police called it a riot. And then they moved into try to stop the vandalism. At one point police say protesters tried to take over p an interstate highway forcing officials to shut down a portion of that road. This person in portland was caught on camera taking his anger out with a baseball bat. You see him there hitting an leg cal box. And you can see the sparks flying as crowds cheer. And in oakland, california a third night of protests drew hundreds of people downtown, some of the marchers split from the group and managed to shut down a freeway until Law Enforcement cleared them out. Police say they made several arrests. Protesters also marched in denver, minneapolis, washington, d. C. , new york and several other cities chanting antitrump slogans. Will is still a very fluid situation as some of the protests continue right now. Ill be monitoring the scenes throughout the morning and well see you in another half hour for an update. Earlier in the day the multiracial feminist coalition gop hands off me held a vigil outside Philadelphia City hall. The protests are not sitting well with president elect touchdown. Last night mr. Trump tweeted this out, just had a very open and successful president ial election. Now professional protesters, incited by the media, are protesting very unfair. Also breaking from overnight, a 17yearold boy is recovering after being shot, the shooting followed and attempted robbery outside a chinese takeout restaurant in north philadelphia. The teen told police a man approached him near broad and erie around 11 30 last knight. Teen ran away, heard a gunshot, realized he was shot and ran home. And thats where police found him and took him to the hospital. Hes in stable condition. Police hope video from surveillance cameras in the area will help them catch the shooter. Funeral plans are being made for a Police Officer killed just outside of pittsburgh yesterday. As we told you during breaking news yesterday morning, two officers were ambushed when responding to a home in c cannonsburg. The gunman had set up make shift explosi explosives. Both officers shot, one died. The gun man then killed his pregnant wife and then himself. A Rowan University student is recovering after a tone charger caught fire in his pocket. A spokesperson says the student was inside the Student Center when he felt something burning inside his pocket. The young man put out the fire, took out his portable phone changer and threw it on the ground. University staff evacuated the Student Center. I smau gaw some guy leaving you could smell it, like it smelled like chemicals burning and you could see he was holding like his pants like in his hand. And there was a big, big burn mark in it. Sglt student we the student went to the hospital to be treated for burns on his leg. Row rowan have not identified the brand of the charger. A robber points a gun at the head of a young boy and buy police are trying to find out if he was part of the plot. Look at the video. But still watching the boulevard for lanes lost between broad street and ridge avenue. So traffic that is moving toward the schuylkill express still down to one lane until about 5 30. Rest of the bridges are okay. Were nice and clear heading over the bridge into philly. 20 minutes before 5 00. Temperature temperatures have cooled into the 40s this morning in philadelphia. Skies are clear. Well see a lot of sunshine today. But look at the wind. Its already getting started. That is at 12 Miles Per Hour and the wind will be a key to the weather during the day today. That wind will be increasing as the morning goes on. Look at the sunshine from the 40s up to 50 at 8 00. But the wind will also be increasing as the temperature moves into the low 60s. Now, something unusual about today is that 61 degrees, that is at lunchtime. Thats where were peaking. Look at the temperatures start to come down a little by 2 00. Its the winds driving in colder air and its really going to be felt late in the afternoon. No longer in the low 60s, but 50s and then this evening well quickly drop into the 40s. Right now 46 degrees in the suburbs. Bright sunshine ahead today. But just like philadelphia, you see the winds increase. Just at 7 Miles Per Hour right now, but a 17 Miles Per Hour wind at 10 00. And up to 18 Miles Per Hour at noon. And there it is again, peaking the temperature at noontime, getting chillier as the afternoon progresses. 46 now in the lehigh valley. It will be ramping up, 60 degrees at noontime. Well hold right around 60 at 1 00 and then it starts to come down a bit at 2 00 and down to 55 at 4 00. The temperature peak will be a little later at the jersey shore. It takes time for the cold air to move from west to east. So 48 right now, warming up to 60 at lunchtime and then 62 degrees at 2 00. Protesters took to the streets again last night and early this morning in about a dozen cities across the country. The demonstrations turned heated in portland, oregon where police in riot gear came out to stop people from smashing windows and hitting are cars with bricks. Portland police say they arrested at least one man for allegedly throwing a molotov cocktail. Hateful graffiti including messages in support of president elect frump sctrump s across schools. The messages were discovered at castle rock north, some contained swastikas and threatening messages to lgbt students. A hispanic student received a note telling her to go back to mexico. We talked to the student who found the messages. Just an act against human decency. It doesnt really matter which side of the political spectrum youre on, its just not right overall. The school says all students from all backgrounds are accepted and that the randa vandals will be dealt with. Hillary clinton has been staying out of the spotlight since conceding the race, but a woman out hike discovered how the former secretary of state is spending some of her time. Margo says she ran into clinton while hawking in chappaqua. Former president bill clinton was there and took the picture. Margo says she told clinton was voting for her was one of her proudest moments as a mother and they hugged. With the election now history, it is time for delaware politicians to bury the hatchet. Winners and losers got together yesterday for the annual return day ceremony. The tradition dates back to the early 1800s when everyone who returns to the county seat two days after the election to heart results. Politicians buried the hatches in sand, their way to heal, shake hands and get everyone to work together. A whole day of reconciliation, burying the hatchet and moving forward and remembering were not gm, republican, independent, but were american. That is a great event. And some special dogs are helping injured vets rebuild their lives. Meet wally, the 11yearold black lab helps dan lasco with all kinds of daily tasks. He lost his leg in an injury in afghanistan. His injury left him depressed, so it was recommended that he get a service dog from a group called americas vet dogs. He really improved my quality of life. Just having him walking around, knowing that hes by my side. Knowing i can rely on him. Dan has had wally for eight years now. Wall sli dy is due to retire inr or two. So right now were watching the boulevard and that construction is between broad street and ridge avenue on the southbound side. You can see one lane is getting by right now. They have Police Activity set up some cones there to block off the two left lanes. So with that one lane getting by, right now not seeing any major delays. And its traffic moving toward the schuylkill expressway. Once its cleared about 5 30, everything will look a little better. But again, right now were not seeing any volume or delay behind that because its still early. Also watching 95, 13 minutes south to the vine street expressway and speeds will in the 60s. And center city watching construction, over near city hall and broad street, watch for a crane, the road reduced to one lane there. Its more southwesterly in dover, but items become wednesdits become westerly in coatesville. As we go into the afternoon, the shift in direction, that is a northwesterly wind will be flooding in this afternoon of winds of 18 to 20 Miles Per Hour with gusts possibly as high as 30 Miles Per Hour. So that will start bringing down the temperatures during the afternoon hours. But even with that cold front passing by, well still be in for lots of sunshine. No sign of any serious clouds, any showers to the north that are coming in with the cold front are going to disappear before they arrive here. So we wont get the wet weather, but well get the cold.
