Philadelphia police are looking for the driver involved in a hit and run just before 11 00 last night. A 49yearold man was hit by a car in the parking lot in the rhawnhurst section of the city. Witnesses called 911 and led police to a chevy, not far from where the man was hit. Police ran the tag, came up to a 2010 chevy registered to a property in the 7,000 block of rutland street. When police went to that location, they immediately found the car parked unattended. Police tell us the man who was hit is in very Critical Condition. Theyre pulling Surveillance Video in the area to help them with the investigation. And now to our continuing coverage of the new jersey and new york bombing suspect arrested. 28yearold Ahmad Khan Rahami is being held on 5 million bail for a weekend of terror across two states. Nbc 10s matt delucia is live in our digital operations center. Matt, theres still a lot of unanswered questions. Walk us through this. A lot of unanswered questions. We know who the suspect is. c one of the bigger question this morning is why. What was the motive for the attacks . Fbi and local police departments, they worked late into the night in lyndon, new jersey where the search came to an end yesterday morning. They collected evidence where officers first confronted rahami, found sleeping in the doorway of a bar. That led to a shootout when officers arrived. Ahmad rahami was eventually shot and captured. Agents they they identified rahamis fingerprint on an unexploded Pressure Cooker bomb uncovered near the blast at manhattan. Police are crediting a vigilant citizen for recognizing rahamis photo. He just started shooting. I heard gunshot, pop, pop, pop, pop. More than a firecracker. Reporter as of last night, rahami has not made any statements to investigators and he has not been on any terror watch list that anyone knows of. The question of why still remains. And coming up at 5 00, im looking at how the suspect could be charged in this case. Hes already facing several charges, could face even more. How severe the penalties against him could be. Intelligence officials told nbc news that the suspect, his father and his brother traveled to pakistan and afghanistan multiple times over the last decade. Police in north jersey are crediting the local Muslim Community for helping them find bombing suspect Ahmad Khan Rahami. Muslimamericans in elizabeth, new jersey where the suspect lives say one mosque in the area reached out to them to assist in the manhattan. The mosque made calls and sent an email to the community urging muslims to help Law Enforcement investigate the weekend bombings. Rahami allegedly set off in new york city and north jersey. The mosque also issue a statement denouncing the suspect saying he does not represent lawabiding peaceful muslims of its congregation. They were able to get the forensic evidence to identify him, get the picture out. That is what was key, the tips that came in, able to identify him and then locate him.
