Were issuing a first alert for the afternoon and evening threats for storms in delaware, new jersey, philadelphia and suburbs. Later on today, tonight and thats when we could see strong thunderstorms for a flash flood threat. One of the areas were watching closing, cape may. Youre seeing areas of fog that thickened up from yesterday. A possibility for us with showers this afternoon, especially in delaware and south jersey. But pennsylvania, were also going to be in for some heavy downpours. But before the storm takes shape, temperatures back into the 90s this afternoon. Low 90s for philadelphia and the suburbs. Into the lehigh valley. Easton is 94, allentown, 89 degrees this afternoon. Chance of afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms for south jersey and at the shore. 91 degrees in pemberton. While Atlantic City heats up to 88 degrees. It will be 86 at Rehoboth Beach and low 90s for wilmington. Hour by hour in each of the zones. Today marks the fourth and final day of the Democratic National convention here in philadelphia. And tonight will be Hillary Clintons big night. Todays theme is stronger together. Things get going at 4 30. Tonight at prime time, Chelsea Clinton will introduce her mom. The nominee will then make her acceptance speech. We spoke to some of the delegates on the finale and what they hope to hear from clinton. Youre going to hear a message of hope. A message of unity. A message of how america has to move forward. Were going to hear a message from mothers to mothers, for our children, what we need to do to leave a better america for our children. I expect to hear a speech that will bring us to life. Im very confident. Im very excited. You can see our room versus the republican room. You see the level of diversity in our room versus the republicans. Its a different environment. Our delegates also said they expect a speech that will reach over to Bernie Sanders supporters and help unite the party. Donald trump is reacting to comments about his comments ash russia and Hillary Clinton. Yesterday, trump urged the russians to go hacking for emails. Yesterday, trump didnt encourage anybody to hack. He was making a point about those 30,000 missing emails. Heres what trump said. Russia, if youre listening, i hope youre able to find the 30,000 emails that are missing. I think you will be probably be rewarded mightily by our press. U. S. Intelligence said its confident that the russians hacked computer servers of the dnc. A congressman from rhode island is calling on president obama to hold classified briefings from trump in the interest of national security. As a president ial nominee, trump is scheduled to get his first president ial briefing tomorrow. Last night at the dnc, Vice President biden spoke about trumps readiness. He has no clue about what makes america great. Actually, he has no clue, period. The crowd responded with chants of not a clue. Vice President Biden was not alone in criticizing donald trump. You can definitely see some cars on the roads there right now but no big problems or delays in either direction on either of those roads watching the p. A. Turnpike in downingtown we are missing the right lane there for that stretch. 23 minutes eastbound. And 22 from route 1. And lehigh street, you can see a few cars heading out the door but again no backups or delays. Ill have more in the next ten. But for now, lets get a check with meteorologist bill henley. Boat house row is all lit up this morning. We will see sunshine and the skies could light up this afternoon and tonight with showers and thunderstorms that could turn severe. Radar satellite shows were in the clear right now, but look to the west and you can see the scattered showers moving into South Central pennsylvania. And farther to the west. The storms in northern kentucky. Thats where were watching out for later today. But most of the morning will be dry. 77 degrees in philadelphia. I see some areas of fog in new jersey but its not happening in the city. 86 degrees at 10 00. Those storms taking shape this afternoon. For the suburbs, we will see the numbers climb from 70 degrees this morning. With sunshine, 84 degrees. Scattered clouds at lunchtime and into the afternoon with showers and possibly thunderstorms this afternoon. Keeping the temperatures a little cooler today than the suburbs. Lehigh valley youre more likely to see enough sunshine to warm temperatures into the 90s this afternoon. 69 degrees this morning. Well number the low 80s by 10 00 this morning. Farther to the south theres a better chance well see showers and thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening hours. 73 degrees right now in new jersey. 85 degrees at 10 00. And then the storms start moving in this afternoon. At 2 00, and 4 00 hour. The temperatures will be in the 80s with the storms. And for the jersey shore, wont escape those storms either. Then scattered showers at lunchtime. Here comes storm threat as we go into the afternoon hours, as weve issued a first alert for most of the area. We spoke with one of the delegates who say they were impressed with kaines speech and hes already playing the part. The v. P. , the attack dog, hes clearly good at it in his own way. He laid out if some facts today that is very difficult to dispute. It was serious, yet, you know there was a little bit of lightness to it. And, you know, he did one very, very important thing. He said i feel the bern, so lets go for clinton. You know, so, again, lets talk about unity. Other delegates said that kaines speech was the trump takedown theyve been waiting and wanting to hear during the convention. Happening today, Bernie Sanders was expected to speak at several breakfasts held in utah, idaho and west virginia. Hes been trying to convince supporters to back clinton. That was sanders speaking to a diagnosis breakfast yesterday. He had a message specifically directed to young people. Many democrats were surprised when the poll showed sanders, the 74yearold man, had the majority of them behind his candidacy. One woman we talked to said it makes perfect sense. Hes able to get people motivated how we can get involved and do more things in our community. Democrats now hopes that sanders can bring those young voters to Hillary Clinton. Lets check in with nbc10s katy zachry for a look at other top stories back in the studios. A wall street firm said the financial future of Atlantic City is in jeopardy. Moodys invests service said the resort town will likely default on a debt payment on monday if the state does is not act. The firm says a default would most likely cause Atlantic City to file for bankruptcy. The state has promised the loan as part of the agreement but would allow ac to get its finances in order by november. If that doesnt happen, the state will take control. Happening today, you can get a closer look at septas new bus. There it is there. In south philadelphia, today, the Transit Agency is inviting commuters and others to see a demonstration of the bus. The buses will be part of septas fleet next year. Also today, nearly 50 students will show off their Summer Reading skills in camden. Watching the blue route, no problems or delays here, headed southbound from the schuylkill to 95. 15 minutes there at the most. The speed into the 60s. Were also watching some construction over in in which. At bridgeport. This will be in place until august 4th. Route 130 between route 322 and route 44. Fivemile visibility. And right on the board walk things are a little different. Temperatures, range of temperatures from the 60s. Lehigh valley, pennsylvania, suburbs, 69 degrees. Middle 70s in delaware. Upper 70s in philadelphia. At the shore, temperatures have cooled down into the 70s but fog has. And temperatures will be warming up, 80s this afternoon. Theres another threat for later today. And thats a threat of strong storms. No sign of them this morning in our area. But you can see them to the west. These are the storms were watching to pop up in our area by early this afternoon. They will be on the move. Through the morning they will be dry and well see sunshine. Its going to be another hot day today, into the low 90s for philadelphia. Noon time, pretty quiet. Might see an isolated sprinkle in delaware. Most of the showers and storms and as we go through the afternoon hours, early afternoon, you can see the threat of storms coming into the delaware. And more storms into the west and even through pennsylvania, showers and thunderstorms, the potential for heavy downpours and strong gusty winds later today. And the storms continue tonight and into tomorrow. Look at the cooldown, as a result. Low 90s today. Finally out of a heat wave tomorrow. 86 degrees. On saturday and sunday, saturday, well get some sunshine. Chance of storms on saturday. But more likely well see rain on sunday to keep temperatures even cooler. High temperature of 84 degrees. That much needed rain will still be a possibility on monday. As it gets in the form of thunderstorms. 82 degrees monday afternoon. And then turning cooler behind those storms for tuesday. New jersey may start taxing homeowners who rent out their rooms through airbnb and other online sites. A bill is being introduced into the state assembly that would charge those homeowners the same taxes and fees as motels and ahotels to try and level the playing field. Under the current state law theres a 7 sales tax and 5 applicant fee on rentals. Some philadelphia transit officers took some sometime to help one of the youngest protesters weve seen so far this week. Nbc10 spotted the officers breaking out their power tools yesterday to help a little Bernie Sanders supporter cyrus get back on his wheels. Septas chief saw the boy struggling with the broken scooter, so he called on his officers to help. Yeah. Cyrus was wearing a Bernie Sanders mask on his head and a sanders tshirt.
