Developing on capitol hill, democrats make progress in the fight for gun control legislation following the shooting massacre at that club in orlando. Simply want people on the terrorist watch list to not buy guns and criminals not buy guns. Chris murphy from connecticut ended his more than 14 hour filibuster after he says Republican Party leaders agreed to allow votes on two proposed gun control measures, the ones he just mentioned, one with ban people on the buying guns and the other would expand background checks. Pennsylvania republican senator pat toomey has his own gun bill in the wake of the orlando attack. He is set to introduce legislation today that he says will help ensure that terrorists are kept from purchasing a firearm, but says his proposal also protects the second rights of law abiding gun owners. Toomey, a democratic hopeful Katie Mcginty are locked in a tight race. Mcgintys campaign released a statement that reads, senator toomey had an opportunity to prevent suspected terrorists from being able to buy guns last discuss and instead he opposed it. If this bill passes, which it is expected to, philadelphia would be the first major city in the nation to tax sugary beverages. As we know, it caused a lot of controversy over the past few months with people demonstrating both for and against the tax. Ultimately, council decided to compromise with jim kinney, agreeing to a tax on all sugary drinks including diet sodas and flavored waters. The majority of the money raised will go to fund universal prek throughout the city, creating about 6500 slots for kids. Another chunk of the revenue would help revitalize recreational centers. It was a tough sell for some residents and business owners, but councilman curtis jones says the time is now. They said the same thing about the cigarette tax last year, it produced 88 million for the school system. Just the first time in five years we havent had to raise real estate taxes. So when you make tough choices about it, sometimes it works out with the cigarette tax. I think this is another one of those good choices. Most recently critics of the bill have called it a bait and switch. They say in the final moments of the soda tax they learned that about 10 of the revenue would go to other programs and help a general fund account. Philadelphia police have new clues in a deadly hit and run thanks to surveillance video. Take a good look at this video that shows a chevy venture minivan wanted in the crash that killed a teenager monday night at roosevelt boulevard. Police say the driver hit 17yearold Makala Jackson as she was walking home from work. Investigators believe the minivan has a shattered windshield and heavy front end damage. From our south jersey bureau, the family of Adam Pasquale dropped a lawsuit. The 12yearold girl disappeared in clayton in october of 2012. After a twoday search, her body was found in a recycling bin near the home of two brothers. One brother was convicted in her killing. Pasquale family accused authorities of failing to properly search for the girl. The lawsuit was dropped following an agreement between the family and authorities. The details of that agreement were not released. A northeast philadelphia man is left crawling around after someone stole his prosthetic leg. Now hes pleading for help in getting it back. I just dont like getting around like this. This is pretty much embarrassing. This is the only option for michael stauffer. After fighting a bone infection that required 29 surgeries, doctors decided to amputate his leg. Six months ago, his insurance paid for the prosthetic allowing him to play with his grandson. Last week, someone broke into his moving van and stole the leg. He says an Insurance Company wont pay for a replacement for the 28,000 piece of equipment. I wish they would give back, wont press charges, just do anything. I dont got the money but ill come up with it one way or another to give them the money. I need that leg. Hell continue to have a difficult time getting around as long as he doesnt have that prosthetic. If you know anything about the crime, please want to hear from you. Former employees of the pennsylvania Turnpike Commission have been charged for stealing time. Two former employees were arrested and charged. The Attorney Generals Office says they used state cars for personal use and said they worked more hours than they actually did. Governor tom woolf ordered a Confederate Flag to be removed, calling it a symbol of racism and hate. The flag was on loan from a Historical Society. Wolf made the decision following a agreement betwe a disagreement between that society and a lawmaker. It had been up for nearly three weeks. It was important to take a stand to make sure the next generation of children are not taught that hatred is okay. It was stolen. She had no right to put her hands on that collection. Representative brown says she gave the flag to the House Republican majority leader.
