This takes us to the kensington neighborhood of philadelphia where there was a row home fire. Firefighters got a good jump on this one, though, they put it out pretty quickly, thankfully before it could spread to neighboring structures. This is the 3,000 block of arbor street. The fire started just before 4 00 a. M. Its all under control. We dont even see the light smoke we saw ten minutes ago. You can see there, it looks like the one home that was affected was pretty well gutted by that. The fire was heavy, they say, on the second floor. No reports of injuries. Well let you know if anything significant develops with this. 4 33. A hit and run crash killed a Philadelphia Police officer. He was off duty when his motorcycle was hit by another car on roosevelt boulevard. Now, the driver of that car took off but fellow officers caught up with him a short distance away. Reporter ten minutes ago i got off the phone with philadelphia accident investigators who reiterated that, no one has been charged yet. They say their suspect who is in Police Custody is in his late 50s and from the philadelphia area. Now, that man is accused of hitting Philadelphia Police car rather Philadelphia Police officer lamar poole who was off duty yesterday afternoon when he was riding his motorcycle. The crash happened at devereaux street and roosevelt boulevard. Investigators say the suspects silver toyota turned in front of officer pooles motorcycle. The 19year police veteran was thrown from the vehicle and died from head injuries a short time later. Now, according to witnesses, the driver got out of the car for a minute right after the crash, looked at what happened and then drove away. We had a couple witnesses, one being a tow truck driver who followed the vehicle helped out big time and followed the car, turned the car in, called the police. Reporter an update from accident investigators this morning is the suspect has not been charged yet but if he is charged, hes likely facing dui charges as well as leaving the scene of an accident among other charges. Its been a tough summer, a tough past ten days for the Philadelphia Police department. Theyre grieving officer pooles death at the same time theyre still grieving the loss of another officer killed in an offduty crash. Sergeant rafael ali died nine days ago when his pickup truck crashed into a tree in roxborough. Police are looking at whether the sergeant fell asleep at the wheel. Sergeant ali was a tenyear veteran of the force. And a Police Officer in Delaware County is recovering at home now after he was shot in the line of duty over the weekend. c ridley park officer marc hanly was released from a hospital yesterday. He was shot as he and his partner were handling a suicide call in norwood. The officers were trying to talk to the suspect, darrel burt. The officer showing us his bulletproof vest stopped a bullet to the chest. He also got shot in the leg there. If i didnt have my vest on, we wouldnt be here for this party. Im alive. Very thankful for that. Burt faces atelled murder, aggravated assault and weapons charges. Coming up later this morning, well have what officer hanly said about getting back into the uniform. 4 36. From our delaware bureau, a father is facing charges after his gun went off accidentally, shooting his 2yearold daughter. The toddler suffered a leg wound at a home in oceanview, Sussex County early yesterday. Investigators say Joseph Jenkins gunfired while he was showing it to his wife. Police arrested jenkins on assault and child endangerment. Be not afraid within thats what the head of the Catholic Church in philadelphia is saying to people concerned about the popes upcoming visit. Archbishop Charles Chaput wrote an editorial yesterday. He called the popes visit to philadelphia, quote, a moment in history that should not be missed. The archbishop reminded people that mary, joseph and jesus didnt worry about travel and security issues. Visitors next month should not worry either. This morning, tracking some very light showers in delaware and south jersey andc a few rain drops have made it into pennsylvania, too. Just barely into southern chester county, New Castle County seeing light rain drops along i95 and gloucester and camden counties, into burlington county. Light rainfall. Those showers wont last all day. Theyll end, well see clouds through the morning and sunshine breaks out this afternoon, especially late this afternoon. Thats when temperatures will peak into the upper 80s and low 90s.
